The SRK Rollback: Best of June 1-7, 2018
Welcome to the Rollback: a frame-by-frame look back at our past week’s most notable news — and our favorite SRK articles — from June 1 to June 7, 2018!
Zavian “mushin_Z” Sildra, Editor-in-Chief:
Frame 1:
BornFree interviews Tokido at Combo Breaker 2018, Part 1: Winning, losing, and mastering mindfulness
Tokido has become the man to beat in Street Fighter V, and BornFree’s extensive interviews from Combo Breaker provide even more insight into this street-fighting champion. Check out Part 2 as well.
Frame 2:
Core-A Gaming makes the case for arcade sticks
Still my favorite way to play — provided the game in question was originally designed for an arcade cabinet layout.
Frame 3:
New officially licensed GameCube controllers for the Switch are in the works
A pretty solid indicator that Super Smash Bros. on the Nintendo Switch is going to stick to the persistent control layout first established way back for Melee.
Frame 4:
Shoryuken review: BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle is a thrilling blend of anime franchises
Woocash describes the ins-and-outs of ASW’s new crossover fighting extravaganza, guest starring Rooster Teeth’s RWBY heroines.
This expansive documentary from Capcom encompasses all 30 years of everything Street Fighter to date, a must-see for fans.
Crow_Spaceboy, Assistant Editor:
Frame 1:
Toshimichi Mori would like to add Nier: Automata’s 2B to BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle
And while I’m glad that you feel that way, Toshimichi Mori, I just want to point out that that Platinum Games was the developer, and there is really no reason why they can’t just make their own cross over fighter at this point…
Frame 2:
Catch some more screenshots and artwork of SoulCalibur VI’s pirate dandy Maxi
The artwork in SCVI is shaping up to be some of my favorite character portraits in the series.
Frame 3:
Pocket Rumble hits Nintendo Switch this coming July, backers to get free copy
Nice, nice. I shamefully admit that i almost forgot about this coming out, and I’m glad it’s getting new life on the Nintendo Switch.
Frame 4:
Eight unknown steamDB DLC entries have suddenly appeared for Tekken 7’s PC version
Ganryu. Eight different Ganryus.
Frame 5:
Warner Bros. Games counting down to a new reveal — possibly a new Mortal Kombat? [UPDATED]
The real twist is that the Hitman will be the first guest character in MK11.

Lobby avatars and sprites datamined for all unreleased BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle DLC characters; release dates also possibly leaked
With BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle now available in Asia and North America, dataminers have been hard at work looking into the files of the PC version of the game — and have found more (nearly irrefutable) evidence of the identities of the nine remaining DLC characters that have yet to be officially announced. Investigation of the Nintendo Switch’s version of the beta revealed announcer and match victory calls for BlazBlue’s Izayoi, Nine The Phantom, and Mai Natsume, Persona 4 Arena’s Mitsuru Kirijo, Akihiko Sanada, and Labrys, as well as Under Night In-Birth’s Merkava, Yuzuriha Sougetsu, and Mika Returna — whom were already highly-speculated to fill out the remaining three Cross Character Packs, due to the deciphering of silhouettes shown during Blake’s announcement back in January.
We now have Lobby avatars for all 16 remaining DLC characters, courtesy of ItsaMeWaleed, which you can see below in all their chibi glory. I’m still not sure if I should consider chibi Merk cute or terrifying…

Colors 1-15 have also been datamined for Team RWBY’s Yang Xiao long, revealing her reference palettes; Guilty Gear: Baiken (color 8), BlazBlue: Makoto Nanaya (color 9), Persona 4 Arena: Chie Satonaka (color 10), Under Night In-Birth: Yuzuriha Sougetsu (color 11), and RWBY: Nora Valkyrie (color 12). Her color 13, much like her sister Ruby Rose, is a reference to her mother, Raven Branwen, allowing the sisters to complete half of Team STRQ when paired together in these colors, which you can see in full below.

Additionally, the sprites of the nine currently-unannounced DLC characters have also appeared to surface, along with some gameplay of an unfinished Mika, with the Tenth Executor seeming to be voiced in English by Cassandra Lee Morris.

An additional set of character icons for NPCs that can be added to your customizable Player Card has also been found, featuring the likes of kajun Faycott, Lex Bartholomeus, Kuon, Nanako and Roytaro Dojima, Gneral Teddie, Igor and the RWBY Chibi versions of Ruby, Weiss, Blake and Yang. There’s even more evidence pointing to the potential arrivals of Senran Kagura’s Asuka and Yumi.

And we've got strike number 3 for Asuka and Yumi from Senran Kagura. Thanks to @XxAceKombatxX for the heads up on this text. Their placement here is the same as past instances: they show up after all four RWBY characters. pic.twitter.com/fgxvC9zBT0

Finally, the release dates for the remaining nine DLC characters may have been revealed by the Nintendo eShop. In addition to noting that Cross Character Packs 2 and 3, along with Yang, would be available on Tuesday, June 19th (so they can be legal at Evo 2018), it mentions that the yet-to-be-revealed Cross Character Pack 4 will supposedly drop on Monday, August 6th, just a day after Evo concludes. Cross Character Pack 5 is slated to arrive Tuesday, August 21st, with Cross Character Pack 6 bringing the full roster up to 40 fighters on Tuesday, September 4th.

Dauntless – Open Beta Opinions
It has been roughly a week since Dauntless made the switch from closed to open beta. As part of the move, Phoenix Labs included a number of polishing touches and updates to welcome in new players. And, despite a rocky start, it seems to have worked – over 800 thousand players joined the fight since servers went live.
