BornFree talks with Evo Champion Chris G, talks Dragon Ball FighterZ teams and competitive future

“I grew most of the Dragon Ball games, growing up,” Evo Champion Chris G opens his interview with BornFree in the same way any other person probably would when describing the first time he saw Dragon Ball FighterZ. “When I saw the way that (DBFZ) played and saw how similar it was to Marvel 3, I said, ‘Yeah, okay, I’m in.’”

Even though he has his gripes (“Games take way too long because of Super Dashes and Tagging…”he says, waving his his hands.), Chris G gushes and details his love for DBFZ. “It’s one patch away from being the perfect game.” It’s not all love and tech talk in the latest episode of BornFree‘s excellent interview series, though — the pair talk also delve into the underworld of esports, and wonder if the FGC can ever actually be apart of that umbrella term.

NieR: Automata’s 2B is SoulCalibur VI’s second guest character

Mission: Eliminate the entity known as Soul Edge

Bandai Namco has been teasing a reveal for Paris Games Week, and indeed, Kayane’s interview with director Motohiro Okubo revealed a surprising announcement.

NieR: Automata‘s protagonist, 2B, is joining the cast of SoulCalibur VI at the Stage of History in 1586 A.D.

Shortly after the announcement, the official Twitter account posted the English-version trailer of 2B. It features Ivy traveling to the future in year 11945 to what looks like 2B’s own stage. She will be accompanied by her BGM, weapons, and costume parts that will be usable in Create-A-Character Mode. You can see her Critical Edge attack towards the end of the trailer.

Looks like fans of Yoko Taro’s action game got exactly what they wanted! Even Kayane herself has asked Okubo if there’s a chance 2B would be a guest character in the game.

Enjoy the trailer below and stay tuned for more details about 2B as they surface.

Christie confirmed for Dead Or Alive 6 at Paris Games Week

She puts the “sin” in assassin

Another series veteran was confirmed for Dead Or Alive 6 at Paris Games Week.  The “She Quan assassin” Christie was confirmed today at the event.

A screenshot of Christie was shared by Koch Media that was later confirmed by KOEI Tecmo Europe. The photo, which you can see in Koch Media’s tweet, shows off her new outfit for Dead Or Alive 6 as well as a new stage.

A veteran of the series since Dead Or Alive 3, Christie is an assassin who uses her She Quan style to deliver fast strikes and deadly mixups.  These tools made her a strong character throughout Dead Or Alive 5‘s various iterations, making her a familiar sight in tournaments.

KOEI Tecmo Europe has confirmed that a trailer for her would be coming soon, so stay locked on to Shoryuken for that and more fighting game news.

Dead Or Alive 6 arrives on PlayStation 4, PC, and XBox One on February 15, 2018.

Patrick Miller breaks down how to improve in fighting games through your replays

Patrick Miller, author of the excellent From Masher to Master strategy ebook, has a knack for identifying broad ways in which a player can improve in fighting games. Such is the case when a viewer asked him about how to improve via watching your own replays — and though Patrick’s answer cites specific examples within Guilty Gear Xrd, his way of thinking is universally useful.

Patrick regularly uploads gems like these, but we figured this no-nonsense framing of what a fighting game match actually is would be particularly insightful for players struggling to move up ranks. If you enjoyed this, check out his YouTube channel for more theoretical dissections.

Learn how to do one of King’s most difficult techniques in Tekken 7: Wavedash Instant Shining Wizard

One of the reasons that King is such a popular character in the Tekken 7 series is because players have, over the years, built up a massive reservoir of tech for the character that keeps carrying over to new games. While some of it is more difficult than other, there’s perhaps one technique that is the holy grail of Luchador execution – Wavedash Instant Shining Wizard.

Combining everything you know from wavedashing and iSW — two difficult techniques on their own — BoxeR-King shows us how to put these past lessons together into a horrifying new weapon.
