Giant Bomb ranks Sailor Moon S in the top 20 of their list of all fighting games

If you have missed recent videos from video game publication Giant Bomb, they have started a segment where they rank every fighting game ever created. This is based not only on aesthetics, but also off of their own understanding of the gameplay and mechanics.

Having seen the footage from AnimEVO this year, the guys take on Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon S alongside Dragon Ball Z: Hyper Dimension. For the formerly-mentioned title, they place it above many titles, citing its low barrier of entry coupled with high depth, and called it an enjoyable experience with a good flow. This was enough to put it as #18 on their current list.

KYSG_Guc breaks the combo meter — and just about everything else — in this Law video for Tekken 7

Power Crushes are not much of a problem in Tekken 7 tournament play for a long list of reasons. But, if for some reason you need a reminder on how exploitable their armor frames are, then you should check out KYSG_Guc‘s latest Law Combo video.

Though squeezing in as many hits on an armored move is the centerpiece of many of the combos in today’s videos, there’s a ton of bizarre interactions to be seen. Law’s Rage Drive and QCF+1 cross unders, combo meters breaking at the wall, and more show that there’s still a lot of strange things to find in Tekken’s combo system.

THE COOL KID93 shares Goku (SSGSS) pressure setups for Dragon Ball FighterZ

Looking to improve your Goku Blue? Professional gamer and Evo 2018 finalist THE COOL KID93 has put together a setup and okizeme video for the god-like (canonically, mind you) Saiyan form in Dragon Ball FighterZ.

Since Goku (SSGSS) is centered around close-range offensive play, you don’t just want to convert big off your mixups — you want to ensure that you have the means to keep on your opponent to keep forcing your pressure. THE COOL KID93 shows off more than a few ways that you can do that — particularly if your GoBlue runs with Gotenks.

VesperArcade discusses the things needed to make Sagat the king once more in Street Fighter V

Sagat has had a history of being a great character within fighting games. Super Street Fighter II Turbo saw the old version of him reign near the top of the tier list. Capcom vs. SNK 2 saw him as one of the strongest Ratio 2 characters in the game. Street Fighter IV had him as an obvious top tier in the first version, but never saw him slide so far down the tier list in subsequent updates to make him irrelevant in competitive play.

Street Fighter V — upon his release — is one of the main exceptions. So how does he come back without becoming a broken mess? VesperArcade mentions the deficiencies in his zoning game — where the game itself sends him into very awkward spacings — but also makes a note that his movement options leave a lot to be desired in their current state.

Shoryuken preview: Dead or Alive 6 continues to impress with gameplay footage from Koei Tecmo’s special event

A lengthy play session reveals charismatic characters, dynamic mechanics, and outrageous stages.

Earlier in October, Shoryuken was invited by Koei Tecmo for a hands-on preview with the latest build of Dead or Alive 6 and an interview with the title’s director, Yohei Shimbori. The build was based on the Tokyo Game Show 2018 version and included every announced character up until the recently announced Mila, Tina, and Bass. This brought the playable character roster from the humble four at E3 to a whopping fourteen. With the limited time I had to play the title, I decided to spend my time getting a brief look at every character that was playable so far. Thankfully, Koei Tecmo and One Media provided capture equipment for the gameplay footage found within this preview!

My favorite characters to play with so far are Diego, Rig, Lei Fang, Ayane, and of course, Hayabusa. Everyone has something unique to offer, and their personalities are reflected through their design and playstyles.

Below you can find twenty-four uninterrupted minutes of Dead or Alive 6 gameplay showcasing every member of the high-octane cast! Hopefully, many of your gameplay questions will be answered by watching the preview, if not, please leave your questions in the comments section and I’ll do my best to get back to you with an update!

I also got the chance to play with a real Dead or Alive pro, Emmanuel “MASTER” Rodriguez. Being the DOA community manager, MASTER has been there from the beginning of our Dead or Alive 6 coverage. Luckily after E3 and Evo 2018, I was finally able to play against the helpful pro.

He showed me the ropes after I got the hang of the gameplay for Dead or Alive 6, and gave me a few pointers on how to improve my skill. This was where the new Break mechanics were really able to shine. Sure, I wasn’t able to pull off a win against the esteemed MASTER, but it did feel awesome to pull off some slick moves with the Break Blows, Break Holds, and Fatal Rush techniques that made me feel — for that moment at least — like I could one day be on the same playing field.

Check out our gameplay sparring session below!

With all of this awesome hands-on time with Dead or Alive 6, I’m more excited than ever for the full release. There are still so many characters I need to spend time with to determine who best suits my playstyle, and they keep getting announced — with Christie being the most recent addition. It won’t be long until the title is available to everyone to play as Dead or Alive 6 launches on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC on February 15, 2019.

Stick around for more DOA news and content right here at Shoryuken! We’ll see you out there!
