Everyone has a fighting chance
Mutants and a post-apocalyptic storyline are two things that’ll always catch the attention of Red Thomas. A few hours of gameplay later, and Red’s coming up for air and to give everyone his initial take on Mutan Year Zero: Road to Eden.
While Ken and Incineroar may be the last new characters to be added to the roster by launch, Nintendo has already promised additional content for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and man, is the first DLC character going to catch fans off guard.
Piranha Plant is coming to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate as an early adopter bonus. Anyone who purchases the title starting today and registers it before January 31, 2019, will be given the character free of charge sometime in February. The floral fighter hops around and attacks with its signature moves from throughout Super Mario Bros. history and is really something that has to been seen to be believed. The character will also receive his own amiibo which will go on sale on February 15, 2019.
After Piranha Plant, there will be five additional characters, each with their own stages and music tracks that will be added to the title by February 2020. The characters themselves have not been announced yet, but each pack will cost $5.99 individually or $24.99 through the Fighters Pass.
As food for thought, those who purchase the Fighters Pass get a Mii Swordfighter costume based on Rex from Xenoblade Chronicles 2. The reason Rex wasn’t included as a character for the game is that planning for DLC began before Xenoblade Chronicles 2 was announced. Keeping this in mind, this may mean most if not all of the characters set for DLC were already locked in well before Super Smash Bros. Ultimate‘s announcement.

And while we are talking about fighters, Street Fighter’s Guile and Virtua Fighter’s Akira will be included in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate as assist trophies! Both characters utilize their signature attacks from their respective franchises with Guile’s Flash Kick and Sonic Boom and Akira’s decisive strikes and dynamic poses. Funnily enough, Zero Suit Samus looks pretty similar to Virtua Fighter’s Sarah Bryant in screenshot found below!
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate releases on Nintendo Switch on December 7 with a total of 74 playable characters and over 100 stages and more info to come!

The final two characters for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate were announced during this morning’s Nintendo Direct, bringing the total number of characters to 74.
Ken is the Echo Fighter for Ryu, as he is similarly in the Street Fighter franchise. His heavy Shoryuken is encased in flames, as it is in his original series, his Hadouken is shaped differently with unique attributes, and he can utilize his own focus attacks. This version of Ken is based on his Street Fighter II Turbo iteration but has tweaks from more recent titles. Ken also has two Final Smash attacks that are activated depending on the player’s distance from his opponent. He’s faster than Ryu, and like his Shoto rival, you can activate unique attacks by implementing certain inputs.

Incineroar, the fully evolved starter Pokémon from the Pokémon Sun and Moon titles, is the last character to be added to the main roster of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. With special moves like Darkest Lariat, Cross Chop, and Revenge along with his Final Smash, Max Malicious Moonsault, this wrestling feline is ready to throw down against the best and bravest Smash players. It will take perfect timing to master the Heel Pokémon, since, like a professional wrestler, Incineroar poses after each successful attack. These poses can be canceled into other attacks or motions, so keep your brains and brawn in sync.

BlizzCon 2018 will be kicking off in about 24-hours. The annual convention is usually chock-full of exciting news about Blizzard’s stable of games. This year, however, fans are confused. For weeks starting in September, Blizzard has assertively sold BlizzCon to its fans and primed the hype train. Over the past couple of weeks, however, developers have started tempering players’ expectations leaving many to wonder, “Just what is there to be excited about during BlizzCon 2018?”
The Secret World Legends team released a new video called “Dark Agartha” with tantalizing clues: “A mysterious path in Agartha has opened. Initially discovered by the Lost Conquistador, the question isn’t just “where” the portal led, but to “when”. Witness Dark Agartha, a telling of a possible apocalyptic future…”
The Albion Online site has been updated to let players know that the Grim Challenge has officially kicked off. During the month of November, players can earn points for participating in open world activities, unlocking chests and can claim the “unique plague-themed mount to sow fear and confusion among your foes”. There is also a new avatar border and a variety of seasonal specials available for those who reach their goals during the event.
The Ultimate Fighting Championship’s welterweight division added another potential title contender to its roster in undefeated former One Championship and Bellator MMA champion Ben Askren.
Now that the latest update has landed for Fortnite, players will be able to take to the skies in a sneaky quiet way thanks to the addition of balloons. Balloons allow players to float skyward, jump higher and sneak up quietly on enemies.
The Ultimate Fighting Championship heavyweight belt is up for grabs this Saturday night at UFC 230 when Daniel Cormier attempts to defend his belt for the very first time against knockout artist Derrick Lewis.
As of late, there has been a lot of talk regarding the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate roster thanks to a number of leaks and rumors supposedly revealing its entire cast. Now, a known leaker has made statements contradicting some of these supposed leaks.
Over on the GameFAQs message boards, Vergeben has stated that the most recent round of leaks, known as the “Grinch leak” (due images of a folder containing promotional materials for the upcoming Grinch movie appearing alongside said leak) are false, based on their own sources. The specific bit of information they refute is that Isaac, from the Gameboy Advance RPG Golden Sun, will be a playable character in Smash Ultimate. Instead, according to their sources, Isaac will simply be an Assist Trophy.
Vergeben has shared a number of proposed leaks in the past that were later confirmed throughout the years, including reveals of certain games. This refuting of the “Grinch leak” gains more traction by the fact that Vergeben made these statements in support of Emily Rogers, another well-known insider and leaker in the Nintendo community – one who leaked the existence of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate in fact.
This all being said, Nintendo will release their final Nintendo Direct focused on Super Smash Bros. Ultimate tomorrow morning at 7 a.m. PT, which will likely put all of these rumors to rest.
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate releases on December 7 on Nintendo Switch with the special edition console launching this Friday with a download code set to unlock on the game’s release.
