Kage is the first new character for Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition’s fourth season and is available now

Unfortunately, other Season 4 details are much more elusive than they should be

Capcom Cup 2018 has come to an end and with Gachikun’s victory and the beginning of Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition‘s fourth season. It seems Capcom may be taking a step back in terms of transparency compared to Season 3 where all of the available characters were unveiled at once, however.

This time, Kage, the physical embodiment of the Satsui no Hado, a kind of “Super Evil Ryu”, is the only character to take the stage at the end of the tournament. While many were expecting a bigger reveal, partially due to recent rumors, Kage’s distinctive style in terms of appearance and gameplay certainly sets himself apart from the traditional evil incarnation of the world’s globetrotting champion.

Kage takes Ryu’s traditional moveset and amplifies it to focus on speed, efficiency, and mobility. That being said, Kage’s biggest differentiator is his teleportation, which is best utilized through his V-Trigger I, granting a teleport that can be canceled from almost any of the fighter’s moves. His V-Skill also becomes much more effective during this time frame.

Kage’s V-Trigger II enables two additional moves that should be familiar to any Akuma or Evil Ryu fan, being the Rikudo Osatsu and the Critical Art Shun Goku Satsu. Regardless of which V-Trigger you choose, you can count on Kage’s Metsu Shoryuken to devastate your opponents.

Kage is now available for purchase for either $5.99 or 100,000 Fight Money with no season pass in sight. Capcom states it will be “doing things a bit differently this year” but the overall details of what this means for players have yet to be disclosed.

Until more information is given, players can utilize the new fighter as well as new balance changes and moves with Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition‘s newest update.

Gigas is still in Tekken! That Blasted Salami breaks Gigas’s Season 2 changes, and why you shouldn’t underestimate him

When the Season 2 patch first dropped for Tekken 7, one of its most controversial changes were those given to the local Big Red Monster, Gigas. Despite his muscles and intimidating presence, he was considered one of the weakest characters in the game — So to suffer nerfs in safety and frame advantage seemed, at the time, tone-deaf on the part of Namco.

Now that the dust has settled, though, That Blasted Salami‘s latest video — which covers all of Gigas’s changes in Season 2 –points out the retooling Gigas has received in place of his losses ultimately make him a better character at both punishing and footsies. Things like 21 jailing, or the reduced recovery on stance transitions, go a long way. Gigas might not be as strong as the rest of the cast still — and in a post Marduk world, perhaps he faces a certain amount of irrelevance — but you should be careful against him all the same. Remember, Panda won TWT.

Cygame’s Tetsuya Fukuhara says that Granblue Fantasy Versus will not be a combo-based fighter

When it comes to Arc System Works’ games, there comes a certain expectation of what they’ll play like. Usually, this involves a a focus on doing long, flashy combos for damage. It may surprise some, then, that ArcSys’s newest fighter, Granblue Fantasy Versus, may not fit into this mold.

After Granblue Fest 2018, Famitsu interviewed Cygame’s Tetsuya Fukuhara, or FKHR to fans, about the new games they had at the event. Part of this had him talking about Granblue Fantasy Versus where he stated that “the game will not be combo-based”.

Now this may come as a surprise to most people considering that it’s being developed by Arc System Works, and because the reveal trailer itself hinted at some form of chain combos. This however may mean that the game won’t focus on them as much as games like Guilty Gear or Dragon Ball FighterZ.  Additionally, Fukuhara mentioned one button special moves, though it wasn’t stated whether this was more like Rising Thunder‘s system, or more like BlazBlue‘s Drive button.

As for why they decided to do this. Fukuhara stated that it was so that players coming in from the original Granblue Fantasy mobile games, who may not be familiar with how fighters play, would be able to pick the game up.

Grandblue Fantasy Versus is set to cut its way to PlayStation 4 sometime in 2019.
