Team Solo Mid’s William “Leffen” Hjelte, who hails from Sweden, has had quite the journey to get to where’s he at currently at in the fighting game community. He is not only a top player in his main game (Super Smash Bros. Melee), but he has been transferring his Melee fundamentals in recent years over to other titles such as the Marvel vs. Capcom series and Bandai Namco’s Dragon Ball FighterZ. Only 24-years-old, Leffen has had a lot of success in such a short amount of time and, needless to say, he isn’t going nowhere anytime soon.
In this latest mini-documentary by theScore esports, they cover Leffen’s volatile beginnings in competitive Melee — going over how he built an infamous reputation through trash talk and bad behavior both offline and online that got him banned from tournaments in Europe for a while. After that, the video goes over his reformation into a respectable player who toned down his behavior and let his skills do the work instead.
It then goes on to show how Leffen earned the title “god slayer” by beating the five “gods” of Melee and winning the toughest tournaments in both the United States and Europe throughout the years. These accomplishments eventually culminated in his biggest career win earlier this year by becoming the Melee Evo 2018 champion–the first non “god” to accomplish this feat.
