Mordhau Devs Under Fire for the Game’s Toxic Community
The developers behind Mordhau are under fire for its toxic community as well as its unclear stance regarding a so-called “ethnicity toggle”. Triternion has been under the microscope after a recent PC Gamer interview where the issue of adding customization options including non-white skin tones and female playable characters came up. While Triternion has plans to do so, developers have also responded to loud outcry from its playerbase and indicated that it would add a toggle to turn those off.
World of Warcraft Devs Respond to Player Criticism of New Nazjatar PvP Event
When v8.2 Rise of Azshara launched in World of Warcraft, it came with a new PvP event called “Battle for Nazjatar” that would launch periodically throughout the day. However, over the past week, players have been frustrated by repeatedly being involved in “lopsided faction representation” during these PvP fights. In a new post on the WoW forums, devs acknowledge the feedback and have announced changes to mitigate the issue.
The Jimquisition Examines ‘the Addictive Cost of Predatory Monetization’
Jim Sterling has published a new video regarding what he believes is “the addictive cost of predatory video game monetization”. In the half-hour long documentary, Sterling speaks about the impact of microtransactions and loot boxes and the effect they have on players. He looks “at the human cost of predatory monetization” and even speaks with a mobile studio CEO “whose tactics for hunting ‘whales’ sound scarily like instructions for selling drugs”.

The next expansion to Hearthstone has been named. Called “Saviors of Uldum,” the expansion is coming on August 6th. Saviors of Uldum will feature 135 new cards, new mechanics and game features. The new keyword is “Reborn” that sees minions come back to life the first time they’re destroyed, but with only one health. Plagues are also being added to all 5 League of EVIL classes. Quests are also a new feature that, once complete, reward players with a “game-changing new Hero power”.
