This week’s Best of III is a real treat, as we begin to see the inner workings of a tournament series that has suddenly blown up to gigantic proportions. The team talks with Mono and Maricarmen, the tournament organizers for First Attack in Puerto Rico. They discuss the origins of First Attack, and their motivation for running successful events. They also talk about why First Attack has been able to grow in such a short time, and the Puerto Rican influence within the Fighting Game Community.

Later, they talk to F3’s Antwan “Alucard” Ortiz, who talks about why he picked Balrog to counter Liquid|NuckleDu’s Nash at Absolute Battle. If you were not in front of Twitch over Sunday for the Street Fighter V Top 8 at East Coast Throwdown, you were certainly missing out. Not only were there hype matches, but great character diversity as well–with only Panda Gaming’s RayRay and Coin Up’s Ludovic sharing a character in Chun-Li.

Fortunately, for those of you who were out and about and needing a pick-me-up out of their Monday doldrums–Team Spooky has you covered. They have just uploaded the Top 8 of East Cost Throwdown to archive some of the great matches held during the event.  Now you can watch the likes of RayRay, Ludovic,  FOX’s Julio Fuentes, OG’s Shine, danslip, F3’s Alucard, Raoh NS, and GS’s HamBam duke it out for Capcom Pro Tour ranking points at your own leisure.

Super Smash Fighter–a series of tutorials designed to explain Super Smash Bros. Melee mechanics to traditional fighting game players–has dished up another offering of its tutorial. In this one, Louis “L_Pag” Pagillo attempts to explain the concept of ledges within Melee to Smash novices. In doing so, they liken the ledge to its only potential counterpart in traditional 2D fighters–the corner.

While admitting that the two concepts have noted differences–such as stages in Melee actually being impactful within matches–he notes the similarities of the concepts of pressure and difficulties to escape situations if put into a corner or ledge. L_Pag also notes that both present rewards to players who better control the neutral game.

If you are a Street Fighter player looking to transition toward competitive Smash–or even a Smash spectator wondering about the psychology of the game–it is worth a read.

We previously reported that CEOtaku–Alex Jebailey’s convention celebrating all things anime–received a $1,000 pot bonus from Atlus for their The King of Fighters XIV tournament. Now it appears that other developers and publishers are in the giving spirit and want to get in on the action of further promoting their games to the masses.

Degica–a Japanese game publisher–has announced that they are now adding a $200 pot bonus to Koihime Enbu. The game–a lesser known anime fighter based off of the Koihime Muso series, and developed by Unknown Games–has seen a limited release on Steam as opposed to PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 in Japan. While considered a great game, its platform limits in the west has certainly crippled its widespread adoption within the community, but still enjoys some high level play.

While this certainly isn’t as big as other pot bonuses, for a lesser title in the States, this is certainly a welcome addition to the CEOtaku lineup and Koihime Enbu fans in the west. CEOtaku will run September 30th to October 2nd at the Windham Resort in Orlando Florida. If you’re interested in going, be sure to get your tickets ready!

TeamSpooky’s Josh “NerdJosh” Jodoin has long been a fixture within the fighting game community. From Marvel vs. Capcom 2, to winning Street Fighter X Tekken’s Cross Assault, to Guilty Gear Xrd, the man has played more titles competitively than we care to count. Red Bull, in their interview with NerdJosh, cites him as “one of the most knowledgeable players in the scene, and it’s not uncommon for him to dominate the early days of a title’s competitive life due to his ability to quickly learn and apply all levels of fighting game systems.”

With longevity in the scene, as well as being one of the most knowledgeable players out there, it’s no surprise to see him interviewed. Within the interview, he discusses his early years of play: “One day, a man in a Navy uniform taught me how to charge with Guile… This was the confidence I need to master all the moves in the game.” He further talks about what playing in each scene has taught him, as well as what it was like to win Cross Assault, stating “I couldn’t really believe that I had become some sort of personality in the community.”
