Of all the advanced movement techniques in Tekken 7 to learn, Korean Backdash canceling is the most important. While Wavedash can lead to mix-ups and better forward movement, having a stronger defensive base means that much more. Normal backdash can leave you vulnerable during its recovery, which is exactly what Korean Backdash cancels circumvent.
All of this and more is discussed in this tutorial and concept video. FrameWhisperer also goes into great length on getting the inputs precise, showing it on multiple input devices so that you can see exactly what your hands should be doing.
One of the weirdest quirks about Sailor Moon S for the longest time has been its lack of an input buffer at the beginning of rounds. This small quirk changes the meta of the game, especially for characters with charge moves, as they have to wait longer to input any special moves.
That changed slightly, as the Toronto Sailor Moon community recently discovered a glitch that not even the Japanese players had discovered. Their finding was that if you are able to end a round with charge stored, that storage will be retained at the beginning of the next round — by way of the game engine not resetting the charge storage variable at the end of rounds. This gives you access to charge moves from the first frame of any round other than round 1, provided you already stored the charge.
But this wasn’t the end of the discoveries, as Koushun discovered that because the game does not read input in between rounds, you do not need to hold the charge in order to maintain the buffer. this means that at the beginning of the round, you can even walk forward for a frame before inputting the charge move.
Sprint also looked further into the discovery, and found that the game goes so far as to not reset the variable in between games. This means that if you end a game with charge, you will have access to charge at the beginning of round 1 during the next game!
This led people to ask what would happen if you were to lose and change characters in a tournament set. Unessential dug deeper and found that it would still store charge if you switch characters — even if the previous character used had no charge moves, such as Uranus, Mars, or Neptune. All that matters is that you store the charge prior to the end of the round. This shows that the charge variable exists globally for each player, regardless of character used.
This 24-year-old game still has territories unexplored. This new tech also may see some changes made to tier lists, as well as tournament rule sets.
It just simply doesn’t get any more damaging than this. While Sailor Moon S has a few 100% combos, they tend to skew between extremely-viable and too-situational to be useful. None can be more niche in its usage than what Sailor Neptune has.
Taking 22 years to create, this 100% combo from Japan abuses many things that have been used over the years to set up amazing exhibition combos in the game, including Sailor Uranus’ backdash and the ability to overlap your opponent — previously used by Sailor Mercury for her own 100% combo. The result is a crazy exchange that leaves Sailor Neptune playing the world’s smallest violin for her victim.
It has been a little over a month since ZeRo — the undisputed best player in the history of Super Smash Bros. for Wii U — decided to retire from competitive play in the game. While he previously stated that he’d keep his options open if a new game were to come out, little did he know that would happen sooner rather than later.
With the announcement of a new Super Smash Bros. title coming to the Switch, his resolve was certainly tested. However, given the timing of the new release, the Chilean took to YouTube to state that he was currently enjoying his time away from competition, and had no desire to compete competitively in the upcoming title. He did state that he would be learning the game, so maybe the door is still open for him to make a return at a later date.
VesperArcade has perennially done a great job at evaluating Alex in Street Fighter V. Often going into meticulous detail, he is able to break down the character and give accurate predictions on the character’s viability — with the prognosis usually being poor, unfortunately.
However, Alex has certainly received some quality-of-life improvements in the most recent patch. With new cancels, better air options, and a few stronger options, Alex is now infinitely more scary when he is in your face. If you’re able to make your approach count, Alex can certainly make it worth the work.
With the Super Street Fighter IITurbo “Tournament of Legends” qualifiers in full swing, people are fiending for the tournament to commence at Canada Cup — as well as to get their name forever etched into the limited edition poster that accompanies the event. For online players, there is now a serious chance to make that happen.
Sergjiev — host of the weekly Monday Night FightCade Super Street Fighter II Turbo events — has announced that he has secured $1,000 in travel and lodging for the winner of the upcoming online qualifiers taking place in June and July.
The tournament qualifiers will feature the Monday Night FightCade format — where players will compete in a Swiss Tournament, with the top 8 playing in what is known as “Sergjiev’s Tower of Doom”. In this top 8, the 8th seed will play the 7th seed, then the winner moves on to face the next highest seed, on and on until they face the #1 seed.
The winners of these tournaments will move on to a final double-elimination bracket to determine who goes to Toronto to represent the online community.
For those interested, you can find the schedule listed below. Those interested in playing are asked to send their registration information to Sergjiev via email directly.
Since the beginning of 2017, Victor “Punk” Woodley’s name has been on the tip of everyone’s tongue in the fighting game community. After going on a rampage throughout the course of the year, this amazing young player left sponsor Panda Global in search for a new home with the titanic team Echo Fox.
After his first event under the orange and blue jersey, Punk sat down to answer seven questions from his new employer. In this video, we learn his thoughts on his losses in tournaments to Abigail, as well as how he feels about the pressure to perform as a top player.
Since the recent balance patch in Street Fighter V, many players have complained of issues surrounding their abilities to connect to CFN. While there are some proxy workarounds figured out by the community, the best solution should always come from the developers themselves.
Capcom has acknowledged these issues exist, and said that they will fix the issue within the month of April. There is, however, no mention of whether this fix will come in the form of a patch — or if they will also be addressing the multiple glitches found in the Season 3.5 update.
We’re aware some players are unable to log in after the update on 4/3. We’re planning to address this issue in April and will inform you when we have a specific date. We apologize for any inconvenience. https://t.co/tlzokzuuAO
While Sailor Moon S has often been labeled as a more straightforward, spacing-oriented fighting game, it retains its fair share of gimmicks. One character that benefits from this is the titular character Sailor Moon, who utilizes her unique forward dash to create a vortex and even a throw loop.
These are on display in this character tutorial from Xsjado Blade — who shows the utility of all of her moves, as well as her various setups. He also goes over the utility — or rather, liability — of her desperation move.
Stupendous is now known as the last of the Red Cyclones. With Zangief’s substantial nerfs in Season 3 (and 3.5), people found it hard to stick with the character, with many opting to swerve to Abigail for their big-body needs. Stupendous, however, stayed the course.
In this interview with BornFree at NorCal Regionals, Stupendous talks about his career in fighting games — which only started as a result as friends making a pact with him to train four days a week, improving his results. He also talks about his frustrations with Zangief’s issues since the patch, and how Abigail has stolen away the talent from the character.
