Jonyfraze reviews the Fightstick Asia EXC Long fightstick in this video

We are in an age where there is no lack of options for people needing an arcade stick for fighting games. Much like several of their offerings, Fightstick Asia recently reached out to Jon “Jonyfraze” Bonilla to review their ready-made joystick: the EXC Long Fightstick.

While giving praise to the overall sturdiness and build quality, Bonilla commented that the cable door falls off, like most models that feature it. He also mentioned one particular warning that their circuit board operates in Direct Input mode, something that makes the stick have more difficulties working on PC than the usual Xinput control scheme.

Running on autopilot too much? Frabisaur explains how to escape the cycle in Street Fighter V

One of the worst things you can do in any fighting game is go on “autopilot.” If you are not consciously thinking of your decisions, you’ll often find yourself making more mistakes than good decisions. In Street Fighter V — or any fighting game — the situation is always in flux, and if you aren’t paying attention, you set yourself up for easy reads and painful punishes.

In the latest episode of The Fighter’s Dojo, Frabisaur explains the mentality of doing things on autopilot — in that we if see that something is good, it’s easy to try to abuse it too much. However, learning how to not autopilot — which can create obvious patterns — is a very difficult, but valuable task. He explains this process in the video below.

Games announced for Canada East Championships 5 in Toronto, Ontario with $2,000 in pot bonuses

NeoRussell of Toronto Top Tiers has announced the return of Canada East Championships in 2018, March 9-11. The tournament is in its fifth year, and will be held alongside EGLX — a gaming convention held in Toronto, Ontario.

The tournament will feature $2,000 CAD in pot bonuses spread across nine games, with the actual splits to be determined later. Featured at the event will be the following titles:

Daigo Umehara and Tokido face off in high-level… Nidhogg play?

Daigo Umehara and Tokido have long been rivals, and what better way to perpetuate the rivalry by pitting them in an American-developed game they have never seen before?

On a recent charity stream for Extra Life, Tasty Steve and Sajam pitted the Japanese players against each other in the orginal Nidhogg. While not a traditional fighting game, the two were quick to discover tech, and in the matches that unfold we see the two unraveling various intricacies of the game, developing high-level tech and mind games on the fly to get their wins.

UYU signs Korea’s NL to contract

South Korea’s Sim “NL” Gun had a solid year in 2017, just narrowly missing out on qualifying for Capcom Cup in 31st place on the leaderboard. Now, it looks as though he is poised to take his career in fighting games to the next level.

Joining their recent signing of Korean Tekken player Jeondding, team UYU has signed NL to a contract, where he will be competing under their banner during the 2018 Capcom Pro Tour. It looks like we’ll be seeing a lot more of the Cammy player this year.

World E-Sports Legendary League in China to feature The King of Fighters XIV’s Evo 2017 top 8 this weekend

For those looking for some excitement in The King of Fighters XIV and Tekken 7 this weekend, China’s got you covered. The World E-Sports Legendary League will have an exciting set of rematches from Evo 2017’s KOFXIV competitors, featuring every player that qualified for the top 8. Will this see Xiao Hai get his revenge on Taiwan’s ET for his second place finish? Will someone else — like Luis Cha or M’ — take the title here? Romance will be restreaming the event on Twitch from the Douyu stream at 1:00 AM PT tonight.

Also on the agenda will be Tekken 7, which will feature top players such as the TWT champion Qudans, as well as Japanese player Noroma.

Team NINJA teases an announcement at NEC18 following Dead or Alive 5 finals

It has been known for some time that this would be the last year of support from Team NINJA on Dead or Alive 5 Last Round. As such, all eyes have been on NEC18 — which has long supported the series and looked to be the last Koei Tecmo supported event for the title.

As such, hopes have been that a new title in the DOA franchise would be announced at the event, and the team tweeted a teaser that alludes to the possibility of just that. Posting the “I’m a Fighter,” tagline that was first used in their marketing campaign for Dead or Alive 5, Team NINJA states for people to stick around after the tournament ends for an announcement.

ARIKA plans a maintenance window for the Fighting EX Layer beta tonight

While a lot of fun has been had on the consumer side with Fighting EX Layer, ARIKA has been taking this test equally as seriously as all the lab monsters have, stating in a series of tweets that they have compiled data on over 200,000 matches online.

Seeing some of the infinites being performed, they admit to underestimating the players, and have begun patching out those combos. They have also asked for players to continue to find and post infinites for them to patch out.

As such, they will be taking the beta down temporarily for maintenance at 3:00 PM JST on December 15th (10:00 PM PT, tonight) in order to institute a patch to crack down on infinites. They will then announce via Twitter and Facebook when the beta returns.
