Leffen Answers Fan Questions on Ask TSM

Leffen is one of Team SoloMid’s biggest names within the FGC, and is definitely one of their top Super Smash Bros. Melee players. So he was a natural fit for this edition of Ask TSM, where he sat down in their studio to answer questions from his fans.

It was an interesting Q&A; he spoke about his belief that Pichu being the best lower tier character in the game, explaining his good frame data and dash dancing, as well as his similar moveset to top tier Pikachu. He also talks about the fact that he finds it interesting that everyone has a more distinctive style of play in Melee, making every player unique across their chosen characters.

New Glimpses of Ultra Street Fighter 2 Reveal Color Edit Mode

Capcom is continuing to give us updates on their Nintendo Switch-exclusive title Ultra Street Fighter II: The Final Challengers. We have already seen previews of their first person mode, but it appears that that is not the only casual trapping that Capcom is releasing with the title.

Newly revealed is a color edit mode, which we are now seeing glimpses of on Twitter. This will allow players to change the color of not only their character’s costume in the game, but also their skin and hair color as well.

Color editing has long been a hobby of many players, with the most prominent usage of this in the community being custom mixes of Marvel vs. Capcom 2 on Dreamcast–something done via third party programs using unauthorized burned copies of the game. This feature was also released officially in Street Fighter X Tekken, with a mixed response.

There is currently no word of any further balance updates.

Watch Memories of Fighters Past in This Ultra Street Fighter IV Compilation Video

Are you wistful for the days of Ultra Street Fighter IV? So is YogaFlame24. Despite maintaining a small following of loyal players, the game has essentially dropped off the face of the competitive landscape, being relegated to side tournaments with very few match videos and tech discussions being posted for the nearly decade-old game.

But let’s take a walk down memory lane, with this video. It shows a couple of players that have moved on and seen some success in Street Fighter V–such as WeirdoNeo and Smug–as well as many we haven’t heard from in a while, like ice0age r and Latif.

Registration Now Open for Sonic Boom IV, the Capcom Pro Tour’s First European Stop

It appears that the Capcom Pro Tour season is gradually starting to flesh out some more! We already got some information on the Tour’s upcoming European leg; now the first stop is getting itself set up for early April.

Sonic Boom IV has officially announced its dates for the tournament, which will be in Madrid, Spain, on April 1st to 2nd. The event will feature The King of Fighters XIV, Ultra Street Fighter IV (3v3 teams), Guilty Gear Xrd -REVELATOR-, Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike, and Street Fighter V (teams and singles). Registration is now open, and accessible here.

Get Brushed Up in Tatsunoko vs. Capcom, Just in Time for Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite

Capcom’s Vs. series has received an influx of attention lately. With the re-release of Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 onto modern platforms, as well as the impending release of Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite, all eyes seem to be on the series.

One of the games that has seen an unexpected influx of players is Tatsunoko vs. Capcom: Ultimate All-Stars. The Wii-exclusive title didn’t see a massive amount of attention after it was first released. However, its perceived similarities to the impending MvCI has made a lot of players curious about it again.

As such, there is now a primer for new players entering the game. While there are some similarities to UMvC3, its Mega Crash and Baroque systems can be cumbersome if you are not used to it. There are also resources beyond just this video, including a TvC discord for players to connect and play remotely.

Michael Martin Questions Whether You Need Top Tier to Win in I Got Next

Street Fighter V has seen a lot of rising and falling in stock lately. HyperX’s Daigo Umehara notably has had prior success with Ryu, struggled with him early in Season 2, began to rebuild with his aggressive play as of late, only to be destroyed by Echo Fox|Tokido 6-0 in the first round of Topanga League.

A lot of Ryu mains are starting to abandon ship, and Michael Martin himself appears to be on the fence about doing so. In I Got Next this week, he talks about this in detail, positing that with the struggles low tiers face in the highest level of competition, that it is almost a necessity to play high tier characters in order to come even remotely close to winning events.

Super Smash Bros. for Wii U Player “Mr. E” Signed by Team Rival

More player signings are happening, and it looks like there’ll be no slowing down! Eric “Mr. E” Weber of Super Smash Bros. for Wii U has just signed a deal with Team Rival as their second fighting game player.

Weber–an amazing Marth player from New York–is currently sitting on the Panda Global rankings at 18th, and joins Matthew “Xzax” Liberatore on Rival’s roster. Team co-owner Tyler West is hinting at more fighting game player signings in the future, stating, “We always are constantly looking for opportunities in other games, provided that the individual has the drive we are looking for in all of our players. Other fighting games are no exception.”

It seems like the impending release of Tekken 7 has the Tekken combo video-makers inspired lately. Every week there’s at least one Tekken Tag Tournament 2 combo video coming out, continuing to build on the excitement of one of the most anticipated fighting games to date.

This week is no exception. Here’s a video of some amazing Tekken combos featuring the characters Paul, Bryan, Asuka, Kazuya, Devil Jin, Heihachi, Jin, Law, Hwoarang and Lee. Some of these combos have vary peculiar collisions on them, including one Asuka combo that features her crossing up at the end of the combo. These are some highly extended combos, showing off some major synergy between characters not often used on teams together, despite the amazing tag play between them here.

X Street Battle Announced for October in Lyon, France

Super Street Fighter II Turbo tournaments always have a huge following. In Europe, none get bigger than this one.

X Street Battle has been announced for October 14th and 15th, and will be held once again in Lyon, France. This event follows a similar format to X-EST–the Japanese tournament hosted by Super Turbo great Mattsun–and always draws a huge international crowd of players from the United States, Europe, and Japan. If you are close to France, or are a huge Super Turbo fan and want to get involved, you owe it to yourself to book your trip.
