ARIKA reveals Allen Snider as the latest character for the ARIKA EX project

ARIKA unveiled their latest character for the (as of yet untitled) spiritual successor to Fighting Layer and Street Fighter EX series: the star-spangled ginger, Allen Snider.

The American freestyle fighter was sadly not ready in time for the nearly 2-hour steam on Daigo Umehara’s BeasTV show. However, the developers promise they will have game play footage of Allen ready by next month. Its purely speculation, but Allen will likely retain his shoto-esque style. Personally, I await the return of Justice Fist.

Another reveal from the Q&A livestream is that ARIKA is currently only developing a PlayStation 4 version. Their stated reason is that they do not, as a small developer, have the resources to create a PC version. Perhaps if the ARIKA fighter does well, they will be able to provide a port of this much-hyped fighter.

Bandai Namco wants your feedback on Tekken 7 through their online survey

If you have strong opinions for (or against) Bandai Namco’s latest 3D fighter Tekken 7, they want to hear them. As reported by Tekkengamer.com, Namco is conducting a questionnaire that asks for your feedback on its current content, future content, and what you’d like to see improved in the game.

It’s not just multiple choice bubbles, either — if you have a rant for Namco, there’s a field near the end for you to go at it. This is a great opportunity to voice your praise of Geese‘s inclusion, or your disdain for native input lag.

ARMS datamining reveals removed stage, new minigame, and hints of future DLC characters

Prior to the release of its latest fighting game, ARMS, Nintendo announced that all future DLC would be free. In response, dataminers GoldFlame and Eizak have picked through ARMS’ files to see what the future may hold for Nintendo’s DLC plans.

What they uncovered are references to a scrapped stage called “Crank,” a fully modeled-out and unused minigame called “Sighting,” and a series of parameter files for characters in the game. Many of the files present reference the weapons or themes of currently existing characters… but not all of them.

  • Chain
  • Coil
  • Plant
  • Robo
  • Scroll
  • Sumo
  • Surprise
  • Sweet
  • Twintale

While it’s possible some of these are simply older models of existing characters (Twintale, Coil, Robo) others in this list have no correlation to any currently existing character (Sweet, Plant, Surprise).

The files referenced don’t point to data that exists on the disc, so we don’t know much else beyond this. You can find more information on the methodology used to discover this data in the source link below, and in the interview video above with Eizak.

TEKKEN TRAINING: Electric Wind God Vids — Magic 4s and making general Frame Traps

We’re continuing our Tekken Training series “Electric Wind God Vids” with a quick rundown on Tekken 7‘s ‘Magic 4. Simply put, a ‘Magic 4’ is a fast counter-hit fishing launcher some characters have. Today’s video defines the Magic 4, gives some examples, and uses it as the starting point for understanding Frame Traps in Tekken.

World Warrior’s ‘Git Gud Series’ teaches the basics of Street Fighter V’s shimmy

World Warrior, a content creator we have featured here before, appears to be taking a break from his character-specific content to work on more general stratgey videos. His first topic in his newly dubbed ‘Git Gud’ series is explaining Street Fighter V‘s ‘Shimmy’.

What I find most useful in this, and what I think more general-purpose guides should consider doing, is that World Warrior doesn’t just show you what the ‘Shimmy’ is. He gives you actual exercises to replicate in training mode, immediately followed by in game examples. This guide should quickly help anyone pick up one of SFV’s most important offensive ‘fakes’.

Capcom Fighters wraps up its Street Fighter V Evo coverage with “CPT x EVO” highlight reel

While the Capcom Pro Tour is obviously far from over, the Evolution 2017 was and always will be one of, if not the, biggest stops on the tour. It’s no surprise then that Capcom Fighters‘ last video for Evo is a high budget montage of Street Fighter V‘s finest moments.

This might be reaching a little bit, but I’m going to say it anyways: don’t be surprised if this is the template for future commercials for Capcom. There’s enough hype moments and memorable quotes (thanks, Tokido) to easily cut an ad from. If the CPT finals end up airing again on ESPN, they’ve already got something ready to go.

BoxeR-King breaks down the theory and application behind King’s Wavedash in Tekken 7

It’s easy to forget that King even wavedashes in Tekken 7. While his wavedash is potentially powerful, this movement tool hardly shows up as a central part of the game-play of even the highest tier players, such as Lil Majin and Pekos, for two primary reasons:  It’s a stylistic choice and It’s actually really difficult to preform, even moreso then the Mishima wavedash.

But if this high octane footsie tool fits you, it is worth learning. This is the subject of BoxeR-King‘s latest King tutorial: an exploration in the execution and possibilities that King’s wavedash provides. You won’t get it overnight, but adding mastery over King’s wavedash it will set you apart from most other King players.

HapkidoRed’s Kazuya Combo Act for Tekken 7 explores side hit juggles, links, flashy filler and more!

In the world of Tekken combo videos, it’s predictable for a Mishima video to be full of difficult repetitions of Electric Wind God Fists. And while HapkidoRed‘s latest video for Kazuya does have at least one example of this, there’s actually a lot of creative alternatives beyond this classic Tekken staple.

Take, for example, the links off of B+321 (whose last hit, if it’s the only hit that hits on counterhit, provides a +24 hit stun), or the link off of Devil Form F+4, which gets additional hitstun on a crouching opponent. Hapkido’s video is a study in edge cases and trivia, and it’s definitely worth a watch for any Kazuya player.

BadIntent develops new safe jump for Pokkén Tournament’s Blaziken

If you’ve spent any time with Pokkén Tournament at all, you already know that Blaziken is a character of extremes. He does massive damage to his opponent, but his enhanced special moves deal damage to himself in the form of recoverable health. This is particularly true of the long wall combos the character is best known for, which can end up using several special moves in one combo.

Knowing all this, it’s a pretty bad feeling for a Blaziken player to have built up all that recoverable health after doing a cool combo, only to get popped in the jaw by a wakeup Extreme Speed from Lucario and watch your lifebar melt away.

Well, worry no more. Pokkén Pro BadIntent has developed a new safe jump off wall combos specifically to beat i9 armored moves. These are Pokkén’s Dragon Punch equivalents, such as Lucario’s Extreme Speed and Pikachu’s Volt Tackle. With this safe jump, these problem moves can now be baited out without giving up your meaty pressure. Burn brightly, Blaziken players.

Playergodaines shows off big Yuri combos for The King of Fighters XIV version 2.01

The latest patch to The King of Fighters XIV was not particular kind to the popular Kyokugen girl, Yuri Sakazaki. Ryo’s daughter suffered meter, damage, and health nerfs — but that doesn’t mean she can’t still hit like a truck.

playergodaines‘s latest combo video not only shows off Yuri’s absurd damage output, but also demonstrates some of the ways she can take advantage of character hurtboxes. The character specific mid-juggle option of EX Air Fireball only work on Sylvie, Mian, Kensou, Athena, Meitenkun, Mui Mui, Nakoruru, Chang, and Yuri. It’s a nice, flashy alternative for Yuri players looking for a little combo finesse.
