History Behind The Warrior covers the (retconned) past of Devil Kazuya

In the Tekken universe, the “Devil Gene” was originally a supernatural element in the story. When Tekken 4 moved in a more sci-fi oriented direction, Kazuya’s internal “Angel vs. Devil” struggle became a genetic mutation. This is just one of the aspects of Devil Kazuya that has been modified or entirely retconned, as History Behind The Warrior latest video explains.

If you’re interested in what’s changed for other characters, such as Ogre and King, you can check out other Tekken lore videos on his channel.

Variable Duel Phase size in Pokkén Tournament explained

Zoning characters in Pokkén Tournament get an additional reward if they do their job right in its 3D roaming field phase. As YouTuber Mitchel explains:

In short, there’s a set distance that you can be from the opponent in duel phase. However, as some zoning attacks will win field phase shifts at further ranges, this gives zoner characters one time access to an even larger battlefield in duel phase.

Since this extra spacing “shrinks” as the players move closer together, this also makes walking and blocking at further ranges a safer way to get in versus these same zoners. This is really important to understand versus characters that can tag you for heavy damage for an errant jump, such as Chandelure and Braixen.

Body Count Fighting announces BCF2 — more title matches for Street Fighter V, Injustice 2, & Tekken 7

Body Count Fighting has announced the date for their event BCF2, a series of exhibition and title matches in California for Street Fighter V, Injustice 2, and Tekken 7.

BCF2 will be held at Machinima Studios in Burbank, CA on Thursday, July 27, 2017 at 6:00 PM PST, and will feature the following matches:
BCF2_event_poster

BCF1 concluded with the crowning of two champions: in Street Fighter V, Dhalsim pro Commander Jesse squeaked out a narrow 4-3 victory over the legendary Alex Valle. This time, he has to square off against LPN, whom is just off of a commendable 9th place finish at CEO 2017 in SFV.

BCF1’s Injustice 2 title match was less of a race, with Slayer securing a win over Michelangelo 4-2. His opponent was also at BCF1, in a feature match versus Panda Global’s Kitana Prime. That man, Han Rashid, also won his set 4-2 as well. Will we have a closer match for the Injustice 2 title defense?

As far as the feature matches, controversial player LowTierGod was unsurprisingly the biggest draw of BCF1, and will likely continue to play his role as a villain versus Street Fighter V player KillerMiller. Tekken 7 gets it’s BCF debut with two sponsored It’s in the Skies players butting heads: Xiaoyu player Princess Ling and Eddy legend SperoGin. Lastly, Mortal Kombat vets Awesome-O and Krayzie will be butting heads in NetherRealm Studio’s latest DC fighter, Injustice 2.

BCF2 will be hosted by Krizz Kaliko and will feature a musical performance by Team Backpack.

BCF2 will be streamed live on Twitch and YouTube. Fighting game fans are welcome to attend the event, and can get free tickets on Eventbrite.

NEV lays out how general fighting game concepts apply to ARMS, shares preliminary frame data for Spring Man

ARMS University is Andrew “NEV” David Murphy‘s ongoing tutorial series for documenting the competitive concepts in Nintendo’s ARMS. If you’re interested in ARMS and are coming from other fighters, it’s helpful to know how concepts you’re already familiar with might apply to this series.

That is the entire purpose of NEV’s latest “Terminology” video. Here, he defines and provides examples of footsies, pokes, hit confirms, whiff punishing, knockdowns, okizeme, and conditioning.

NEV is also currently working on gathering frame data for ARMS. In the video above, he’s provided us with his preliminary visual guide to Spring Man’s data.

Ubisoft and ESL announce the For Honor “Hero Series” online international tournament series with $10K in cash prizes

Starting on Saturday, July 8th, Ubisoft and ESL will start their For Honor tournament series, the”Hero Series.” This 1v1 tournament series will be held every Saturday during the month of July, across all platforms: Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC. Three regions will be competing in separate tournaments (North America, South America, and Europe) and the top players from each region and platform will be invited to play in Ubisoft’s live finals at the Intel Esports Arena in Burbank, CA on August 12th.

The Finals will be broadcast live on the For Honor Twitch channel, For Honor’s Facebook Live, as well as on Ubisoft’s YouTube channel.

In order to participate you must register online. In doing so, you can also get a glimpse of how many people are currently signed up for each tournament. Judging on tomorrow’s entrants alone, it looks like there’s a lot of people vying “for honor” (and money), so you’ll need to bring your A-game. It’s a good thing you have four tournaments to shoot for!

There’s also a separate competition for those that dream of commentating. Ubisoft is taking auditions for For Honor casting, and two individuals will be selected from submissions to join the commentary desk.

You can find out more about the tournament series, and register for both competitions, on the official Hero Series website!

Power Dunk the competition with this Terry Bogard combo video for The King of Fighters XIV

Twist your hat back. Persona Entertainment has revisited one of The King of Fighters XIV‘s most popular characters — Terry Bogard — in their latest combo video.

The Fatal Fury main character didn’t change too much in the transition to version 2.00, but the community has pushed the character’s ability further since game launch. As Persona describes, with positioning and late timing Terry can get an impressive amount of stylish damage. Be sure to see their practical (and impractical variation) mid-screen 100% against Athena!
