Mikado Arcade’s Super Street Fighter Carnival 2017 continues with “Vampire Hunter -Darkstalkers’ Revenge-“

“Super Street Fighter Carnival 2017” is back after a brief foray into the world of Flying Discs. SSFC2017 is the currently-ongoing Japanese tournament series at Mikado Arcade for a wide variety of classic (and sometimes, obscure) arcade titles. If you missed the first few tournaments from SSFC2017, there’s a lot to catch up on!

Today, Mikado takes us to the second game in Capcom’s classic horror fighter series, Vampire Hunter -Darkstalkers’ Revenge- (known by the title Night Warriors: Dark Stalkers’ Revenge in the US).

This post may seem somewhat familiar to you: Mikado Arcade just recently ran its “Vampire Hunter Championship 2017” event concurrently alongside SSFC2017. If the three hours of footage from the Championship tournament isn’t enough for you, then the focused footsies of today’s event should help out!

World Warrior shares anti-V-Reversal option selects with Ryu’s parry in Street Fighter V

The V-Reversals in Street Fighter V were basically designed to score breathing room when your opponent’s pressure proved too much for your defense. This universal panic option has a notable flaw, however: a screen-freezing, input-eating cinematic flash.

Whether intentional design or not, this brief pause allows characters like (the much-maligned) Ryu to easily bait out panic V-Reversals. Ryu’s V-Skill — the “Mind’s Eye” parry — can be buffered into his block-strings to ensure that it’ll only come out in response to a V-Reversal. Check out World Warrior FGC‘s latest video above to see plenty of examples of this powerful and safe option select!

Welcome to the Howard Estate. Now die! Tekken 7 DLC2 stage-specific combo roundup

Up until this point in Tekken 7, the most feared stage for combo manipulation in tournaments was arguably the Forgotten Realm. Its combination of multiple floor break opportunities into wall combos meant that, versus a knowledgeable opponent, every conversion hurt more then they normally could.

This is assuming, of course, that there were still floor breaks in play: after a balance patch in the arcade, only one floor break was allowed per combo. It also meant that some characters were just blatantly better and pumping out absurd damage on that stage then others, perhaps most notably King and Lili.

However…

Josie 152-damage combo from josie hip.

After the most recent patch, though, some tournament players may breathe a sigh of relief when they get Forgotten Realms. The alternative is that they could have ended up on the dreaded Howard Estate!

112 damage Bob combo from Nether Specter.

Geese Howard’s home stage has three breakable walls, all within a deliberately-placed close proximity of each other, for maximum carnage.

Hwoarang, Asuka, Law, and Xiaoyu Howard Estate combos from cutcc.

And if that weren’t enough, there’s a balcony break looming just beyond the Estate’s breakable walls!

Kazumi, Shaheen, Lili, Hwoarang, Xiaoyu, Asuka, Law, Bryan, Leo, Paul combos by hfblade.

In a lot of these early combos, a key to consistently high damage seems to be saving your Screw Attack for after the last wall break. Since juggle scaling is usually quite high by this point, this will help you figure out a proper tool to reach the balcony.

Kazuya death combo from TheMainManSWE.

Considering the short amount of time the Howard Estate has been out and the wide range of characters already capable of exploiting its stage layout, it’s easy to see that jockeying for wall positioning early on will be a big part of most player’s strategies on this stage.

Mikado Arcade’s Super Street Fighter Carnival 2017 continues with Windjammers

“Super Street Fighter Carnival 2017” marches on! SSFC2017 is the currently-ongoing Japanese tournament series at Mikado Arcade for a wide variety of classic (and sometimes, obscure) arcade titles. If you missed the first few tournaments from SSFC2017, there’s a lot to catch up on!

Today’s game is the sports game adopted by the FGC, Windjammers (known as Flying Power Disc in Japan). Despite not being a fighting game, this insane thing had a chance at being at Evo earlier this year, and likely won’t go away anytime soon thanks to its recent PlayStation 4 port.

Mikado Arcade is down for any arcade classic, so perhaps it’s no surprise Windjammers made it in to SSFC2017’s lineup. But make no mistake, Windjammers is still a popular side game for the FGC anywhere in the world, with a tournament scene in France just celebrating its five year anniversary.

Tekken 7’s Geese Howard roundup: Raging Storm vs. EWGF, wall-to-wall combos, super jump glitch, and more!

We’re on our third video roundup of videos for Tekken 7‘s DLC2 character, Geese. The previous two roundups have been largely centered around combos and options, predictably so.  But any new character in any game is going to have a bug or two, and if glitches are your favorite things in fighting games, this post if for you.

Let’s just go ahead and get the biggest one out of the way, from Sodusthepock. Devil Jin, you no longer rule the skies of Tekken 7:

You may remember that Akuma can trap opponents on the ground by FADCing his Red Fireball over their body, then sweeping them OTG into the fireball. Well, Geese thinks that’s too much work, and just opts for his EX Fireball to pick up grounded opponents in this video from Peter Souvannarath. No other tricks required!

Also from Peter, we have an impressive wall-to-wall combo:

Louis Lee found out that there’s no electrical activity in Geese’s Raging Storm. It makes sense that Geese didn’t get hit, but how did Kazuya survive? Is there a dead spot in the eye of Geese’s storm?

From ShiningFace, here’s a 3-bar death combo that, though it requires the Rage damage buff, does not use any Rage Arts.

Just like Akuma, Geese is able to throw a fireball from upstairs, then juggling into it post-balcony break. art_adriano says it’s his first Geese combo: it’s a good one.

And last but not least, cutcc has some quick educational Geese tips, both for playing as and against SNK’s most famous big-bad.

Mane6’s indie fighter “Them’s Fightin’ Herds” release set for February 2018

Developer Mane6 has announced that their bovine-themed fighter, Them’s Fightin’ Herds, is officially shooting for a February 2018 release date. The announcement marks a end to a journey few thought possible for a Fighter Maker-based project marred in legal threats early on in development.

Mane6 was saved by the unlikely support of Skullgirls Mike Zaimont and My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic‘s producer Lauren Faust, not to mention a successful crowdfunding campaign. Them’s Fightin’ Herds features Faust’s colorful designs, chain-based combo system, and GGPO-powered netplay.

The team has chronicled the development process of their game over on their YouTube channel, for anyone curious about the behind-the-scenes efforts needed to make an indie fighter.

Check out the Tekken 7 “Geese Bible” resource document from Sneaky_Coyote

Even though Geese Howard has a comparatively smaller move-set than his Tekken 7 colleagues, it can still be a little daunting to remember every single detail about a brand new character. Luckily, Sneaky_Coyote (whom you may remember also provided a similar guide for Master Raven) has stepped up to the plate to make “The Geese Bible”.

Divided into various paths and color coded based on risk, this document is a great resource for anyone needing to quickly reference one of Geese’s new abilities or combos paths. Considering the large number of moves he has that are unsafe on block (or safe but high), this is a valuable study guide for those learning to fight the king of South-Town, too.
