Learn which Desperation Moves now have invulnerability in The King of Fighters XIV

When the King of Fighters XIV received its version 2.0 patch at the beginning of last month, one thing that it did was give invulnerability to a number of Desperation Moves. This change is interesting, in that it gives multiple characters a new invulnerable tool for punishing opponents–provided that they have the meter for it.

In a new video, Gatoray explores the Desperation Moves that have been given such invulnerabilty. It’s interesting to note the diverse types of Desperation Moves that gained this property–they run the gamut from both regular DMs as well as Climax DMs, and include both melee ones as well as projectile-based moves.

Spring Man heats up ARMS with the Toaster weapon

Nintendo has shared a short bit of gameplay footage of their experimental Switch exclusive, motion-controlled punch ’em up, ARMS. The new footage shows Spring Man making good use of the Toaster weapon.

While the Toaster is usually shown worn by Spring Man, players can equip it on any character of their choice. The footage itself shows off Spring Man using the Toaster to pull off a “Toaster rush”: a high speed flurry of punches that sends an opponent flying after the last hit.

You can check out the footage below.

ARMS launches on June 16, 2017, exclusively for Nintendo Switch.

Garou: Mark of the Wolves coming to Nintendo Switch

During the most recent Nintendo Direct, we got a glimpse of some of the games coming to the NEO GEO series via the Nintendo Switch eShop. Among those titles was none other than the classic fighting game Garou: Mark of the Wolves.

Released in 1999, Garou: Mark of the Wolves represented a massive departure from the previous games in the Fatal Fury series (Garou Densetsu in Japan). Its emphasis on an almost all-new cast (except for series lead Terry Bogard) combined with top-notch animation and the new Just Defend mechanic earned it favorable comparison’s to Capcom’s Street Fighter III series.

Of course, this isn’t the first time that Garou: MotW has been re-released on a modern console: it is also available for PlayStation 4 (and presently on sale). However, the Switch’s unique set up means that this will the the first time that the game will be playable on the go (outside of mobile phone releases) while at the same time still allowing for the use of arcade sticks when at home.

Garou: Mark of the Wolves for Nintendo Switch launches as part of the ACA NEO GEO series on the Switch eShop on May 11, 2017.

Put your fists up for Vanessa’s combos–post the 2.01 patch–in The King of Fighters XIV

Last week, The King of Fighters XIV received a patch that–while small–still included a number of changes for the characters. One character who received these changes was Vanessa, who lost some combo follow-up options out of some of her moves.

In a new combo video, playergodaines explores what Vanessa can do now, after the patch. Based on the video below, it seems that Vanessa hasn’t really lost that much in terms of combos and damage output. Given enough meter, Vanessa can still stun her opponent mid-combo, allowing for follow ups that lead to big damage.

NuckleDu confirms that this year’s champion’s choice CPT costume will be for Guile, not R. Mika

Last year, as part of the first Capcom Pro Tour DLC package, a costume was added based on a design by 2015’s Capcom Pro Tour champion: GODSGARDEN Pro’s Ryota “Kazunoko” Inoue. The costume was for Necalli–a surprising pick, since Kazunoko had been playing Cammy! For this year however, it seems that the costume will be for someone the current reigning champion does play.

In a recent series of tweets, Team Liquid’s Du “NuckleDu” Dang has confirmed (in a conversation with Red Bull’s Olivier “Luffy” Hay) that his Capcom Pro Tour champion’s choice costume will be for Guile. Guile is one of two characters that NuckleDu plays regularly, with the other being R. Mika. Of course, this means disappointment for R. Mika fans, since he didn’t choose to design one for her.

As for what the costume will be like, NuckleDu has stated that the design he chose is “pretty silly,” and that people shouldn’t have high expectations. The concept of Guile in R. Mika cosplay has been suggested… but not by NuckleDu himself! We’ll learn more on this when Capcom eventually reveals the costume later this year.

Learn how Whip’s Crescent Swatter interacts with certain moves and projectiles in The King of Fighters XIV

The King of Fighters XIV players may already be familiar with Whip’s Crescent Swatter projectile reflector, and the unique properties of the wind ball that it spawns. The ball isn’t treated like a regular projectile, leading to some interesting interactions with other projectiles and moves.

It is these interactions that Gatoray explores in this new video, showing what happens when certain moves collide with it. The most interesting parts here involve moves with projectile properties–that will interact with the wind ball–as well as certain projectiles that will still go through the ball, due to their own unique properties.

Return of the Beast: Michael Martin and Rip discuss Daigo Umehara’s reemergence at ELEAGUE

One of the big stories to come out of TBS’s Street Fighter V ELEAGUE this past week was the performance of Daigo Umehara. While “The Beast” seemed to have trouble finding his groove during Street Fighter V’s early life, up until the start of season two, he seemed to have found it at ELEAGUE, having switched to Guile and putting on some amazing performances against the likes of HM|Eita and ZW|Gamerbee.

Daigo’s resurgence is the subject of this latest installment of Yahoo Esports’ Conversations and Fireballs. Here, Host Michael Martin and guest Reepal “Rip” Parbhoo discuss Daigo’s improved at the event, including his return to Guile (who he also played in Super Street Fighter II Turbo and Super Street Fighter IV).

Of course, this is just one of the topics related to ELEAGUE that they discuss. With Rip being one of the commentators at ELEAGUE, they naturally talk about the state of fighting game commentary as well. Additionally, they talk a bit about competitive Tekken since that the series that Rip is known for playing.
