IFC|Yipes Talks Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 for PlayStation 4’s Tournament Viability, Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite in the Latest Edition of Marvel Live!

If there’s anyone within the Marvel vs. Capcom community that can be considered as a sort of figurehead or leader, then it has to be none other than Michael “IFC|Yipes” Mendoza.  An active participant in the scene since before the Marvel vs. Capcom 2 era, Yipes has contributed a lot to helping keep Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 alive.

In the latest edition of Marvel Live!, Kinderparty talks to Yipes, who’s accompanied by his significant other and fellow Marvel commentator, Brokentier’s Samantha “Persia” Hancock, to discuss a plethora of topics regarding both the PlayStation 4 port of Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3, as well as the upcoming Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite.

Regarding the PS4 port of UMvC3, the issue on everyone’s mind is how good a port the game is, as well as whether or not it can be the new tournament standard. On this, Yipes says that based on his experience, the port is pretty good. As for moving to PS4 however, he states that tournaments should do this in early next year. This is so that any events currently taking place this month that have already announced that they’re on Xbox 360 don’t have to suddenly switch platforms, potentially affecting competitors. In addition to this, this will also give the community time to see if there are any issues that would keep the port from being used competitively.

Regarding Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite, Yipes responds to some community concerns, such as the 2v2 format and the lack of traditional assists. With this, Yipes reminds people of how these were part of the classic Marvel vs. games; additionally, he reminds people about how the community has gone through the same transition in previous games. At the same time, Persia also states that we really don’t know as much about the game yet, and that we need to see more before we pass judgement.

Of course, that’s just a bit of what they talk about. Hit the video up below to see the whole show.

CFN Portal Talks Street Fighter III Characters, How Yun and Yang Were Meant to Be Popular, Sean As a Handicap Pick

The Japanese CFN Portal recently put out an interesting new column. This column focuses on the designs of the newcomers added to the Street Fighter III series.

In the column, producer Tomoshi Sadamoto gives us some insights into why the characters ended up like they did. For example, boss character Gill’s color palette was chosen because they wanted a him to sport the primary colors: red and blue as represented by the halves of his body, and yellow represented by his blonde hair.

Meanwhile, it should come as no surprise that the twins, Yun and Yang, were designed to be popular with their flashy kung-fu move sets. As for Dudley, he was designed as a British boxer due to the concept of boxing as a “gentleman’s sport,” especially in Britain–or so the developers thought.

The most interesting entry, however, is that for Sean. According to Sadamoto, Sean was meant to be a character who good players could use to handicap themselves when fighting against friends who might not be as good as them. This could explain why Sean received the changes that he did in Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike. While both Sean and Ibuki were top tier in Street Fighter III: Second Impact, Sean’s changes were more drastic, including sweeping changes to his moveset.

For those interested in reading more about these, you can head on over to the Japanese CFN Portal. Take note that the column is in Japanese.

Here’s Our First Glimpse at Akuma’s Street Fighter V Story Mode

Japanese gaming site GamerNE recently put up an article focusing on returning character Akuma; now while most of the details are the same things we already know from prior coverage, there are some new screenshots–including our first look at Akuma’s story mode.

The interesting thing about the shot isn’t just that it’s from Akuma’s story mode, rather it’s who’s in the shot with him. The screenshot shows none other than the aged Chinese assassin Gen. As anyone who’s followed Street Fighter’s overarching story will know, Gen has been been continually looking to fight Akuma for some time now, hoping for one final battle before he dies.

Will Gen finally get his wish in Akuma’s story mode? We’ll have to wait until Decemebr 20 to find out. In the meantime, check out the screenshot and other new images of Akuma in the gallery below.

New Demo for The King of Fighters XIV with Updated Graphics Coming Later This Month

As previously reported, tThe King of Fighters XIV will be getting a graphical overhaul via its 1.10 patch this coming January. However, it seems that players will be able to get a taste of the updated graphics a bit sooner.

According to the Japanese PlayStation Blog, The King of Fighters XIV will be receiving a new demo later this month that will feature the graphical updates. The demo will feature 7 characters: Kyo Kusanagi, Iori Yagami, Shunei, King of Dinosaurs, Terry Bogard, Yuri Sakazaki, and Leona. In addition to these, the demo itself will contain the tutorial, versus, and training modes.

When exactly the demo will be available–and whether or not it’s exclusive to the Japanese PlayStation Network–has yet to be revealed.

Aside from the demo, the PlayStation Blog post also contained additional details about the 1.10 patch. These are 50 additional player icons, 100 new titles, new sound effects for party mode, and 2 additional colors per character. This is on top of some miscellaneous bug fixes.

The King of Fighters XIV’s Version 1.10 Update Will Not Contain Balance Changes

In today’s age of the internet and patches, people have come to expect that developers will try to fix the balance of their games any chance that they get. So when it was announced that The King of Fighters XIV was getting a graphical update patch this January, some people also assumed that it would be getting balance changes alongside it.

It seems however that that won’t be the case. In a recent tweet, SNK’s Hidetoshi “Neo_G” Ishizawa confirmed that the upcoming version 1.10 patch for The King of Fighters XIV will not include any balance updates. In the tweet, which you can see below, Neo_G states that the focus of the patch is on the graphical updates and as such, they didn’t look into further tweaking the game’s balance.

This should be good news for players who had to adapt to the massive balance changes brought about by the version 1.03 patch. With no balance update forthcoming, players can continue to play the game without having to consider if their favorite fighters have undergone substantial tweaks or changes.

PG|Filipino Champ Test Out Dhalsim’s Changes for Street Fighter V’s Second Season In These Matches From the PlayStation Experience

Dhalsim is one of the characters who initially felt strong, but ended up to be pretty low tier in Street Fighter V. As such, Dhalsim mains around the world are likely wondering how he’ll be changed for the game’s second season.

One player who’s surely looking forward to how Capcom will be changing Dhalsim is Panda Global’s Ryan “Filipino Champ” Ramirez, the only Dhalsim player at Capcom Cup. Filipino Champ got the chance to check out a test build of Street Fighter V’s second season at the PlayStation Experience. Luckily for us, XSplit’s Kevin “Burnout Fighter” Kim, himself another Dhalsim main, was on hand to capture some off screen footage of Filipino Champ taking the updated Dhalsim out against a few other notable players such as Ryan “FubarDuck” Harvey with his R. Mika, Winterfox’s Miky “Samurai” Chea with Ryu and Circa eSport’s Long Phi Nguyen who was testing out Akuma.

Burnout has shared these matches with us, some of which you can see below. We’ve already noticed that Dhalsim’s V-Skill and some of his anti-air normals come out faster. Can you spot any more changes?
