Street Fighter V Final Beta Footage Roundup feat. Desk Combos, R. Mika Strategies, and More

This weekend marked the final beta phase for Street Fighter V before we’re able to tackle the release version of the game. Even though we’ve seen plenty of time with the title through these beta periods, there’s always something new to discover. Below, we’ve compiled some of the best footage from over the weekend, so study up!

To get things started on the best note possible, we’ve got a couple of videos from Desk. In the first bit of footage, he demonstrates the power of Birdie’s soda can by using it to allow the fighter two jump-in attacks in a single combo. Keep in mind these setups are less than practical, but they’re still entertaining to see.

Desk’s second offering sees Dhalsim using all of his meter in two different combos. One combo includes non-Critical Art meter expenditure, while the second–a Crush Counter combo–involves the Yoga master unloading a bellyful of fire on an unsuspecting Zangief.

Next up, we’ve got some footage featuring Rashid. With his unique movement options and ability to control the wind, Rashid is one of the more interesting additions to Street Fighter V’s roster. That said, that means he’s also a bit tricky to use.

For those wondering what Rashid can do with his unique tools, HadoukenMaster put together a video showing some combos for Rashid from Street Fighter V’s latest beta test. These include straight up hit confirms, as well as more advanced juggle combos using his projectiles and his V-Trigger.

Character tutorials often offer great advice for mastering the fighter on whom they focus, but when presented with the grid-lined walls of the training stage and a dummy ready to take a pummeling, it may not always be so easy for viewers–especially newer players–to transfer the knowledge into an actual match.

In the video below from KreativeMente, aspiring Rainbow Mika players can catch a glimpse of the wrestler doing what she does best, and not against passive targets. Frame traps, resets, combos, command grab setups, and more abound in this footage. If you’re an up-and-coming Mika, be sure to give it a look.

Ambiguous jump-ins are a basic tool for players to get in on defensive opponents in fighting games, and Street Fighter V is no exception. While the game places much more emphasis on hard reads and commitment, there are still some moves that can be used to create these sorts of setups when the situation is right.

In this new video, wauhti demonstrates one such setup. When she has her opponent in the corner, Chun-Li can use her aerial stomp attack to keep them guessing. By changing the timing of her jump-in, players can make her land in front or behind her opponent, allowing her to follow with and aerial medium kick on the way down for an ambiguous cross-up attempt.

Chun-Li’s crouching strong in Street Fighter V works like a tuned up version of the same button from Street Fighter IV. On top of being great for whiff punishing at long distances, this normal gets the Interpol officer under a handful of attacks and, of course, offers a stylish way to slide under most projectiles. Thanks to the V-Trigger mechanic, the button can be confirmed into easy damage once it connects. R Squared explores this strategy in the next video.

We wrap things up today with a lengthy set of gameplay footage from Nutrient. This footage features Birdie bringing the pain, as well as the lame, against a variety of online opponents.

Momochi, GamerBee, and More Take Part in Street Fighter V Exhibitions at Taipei Game Show

With King of Fighters XIV stealing a bit of the focus, you could be forgiven for forgetting Street Fighter V also made an appearance at Taipei Game Show this past weekend. As part of PlayStation’s stage show, Capcom brought along not only Street Fighter V but a host of top players as well for a series of exhibition matches.

Among these players were local hero GamerBee, Capcom Cup 2014 champion EG|Momochi, Humanbomb, KAP|Poongko, and Dark Jiewa. Some of Capcom’s own Saikyo Blog staff, including producer Tomoaki Ayano (in a spiffy Chun-Li outfit, no less), also got on the stick for a few sets.

For those who missed it, PlayStation Taiwan has shared an archive of their broadcast.

SNK Playmore Might Host Their Own King of Fighters XIV Tournament

During the studio’s visit to Taiwan for this year’s Taipei Game Show, SNK Playmore’s Yasuyuki Oda was invited onto the main stage, along with AVerMedia’s Gamerbee and Razer’s RB, to discuss and highlight King of Fighters XIV. While the show itself was in Mandarin, MMCafe has graciously translated the proceedings.

Speaking on the game’s roster, Oda again confirmed that all fifty characters will be available at launch. But, when asked about hosting a fan poll for additional characters, the director hinted that there may be more to come after the initial cast.

In addition to having a strong online component, SNK is hoping to see King of Fighters XIV join existing tournaments, both large and small. Talks are currently being held about possibly hosting their own event, perhaps in the same way Capcom has Capcom Cup, but nothing solid has been decided on thus far.

For more of Oda’s talk, be sure to head on over to MMCafe by following the link below. An archive of the conference can be found here, starting around 04:51:43.

Mortal Kombat X Bug Delays Damage from Erron Black’s Caltrops

Ah, bugs. For more than a few players, finding glitches, unintended interactions, or just strange and unique occurrences is part of the joy of fighting games, even moreso when these things are discovered in the middle of a match. Such is the case with a glitch YOMI’s REO found while playing a set with Critical Reaction’s Dragon.

During the match, REO blocked Dragon’s X-Ray which, after block, ended with the latter’s Kitana standing on the caltrops laid down by the former’s Error Black. With Kitana at about 1% health, both players simply put their controllers down, expecting the caltrops to take her out.

Except they didn’t.

It turns out, when Erron Black blocks an X-Ray with his caltrops out, the spiky traps become disabled, causing them to deal no damage. You can check out REO demonstrating this in the video below.

Of course, for those who want to see the exact moment when the glitch was discovered, REO has also shared a video of his entire match with Dragon. The moment itself happens at around the 1:25 mark, where you’ll see both players stop moving when they think that REO should have already won the match.

You likely noticed that the caltrops do eventually kill Kitana, but not until a few precious seconds have gone by. While not the most game-breaking glitch, it’s potential to change the outcome of close matches shouldn’t be ignored. Let us know what you think in the comments.

As some of you may know, Capcom is offering special limited edition packages for players who purchase Street Fighter V from the e-Capcom store in Japan. One of the bonuses included in these bundles is a set of exclusive alternate colors for the characters.

For those who want to see how these palettes look in motion, whether out of curiosity or to see if they’re worth importing for, Capcom recently provided brief footage of each character’s intro with the colors enabled. They include Chun-Li’s red and black outfit, a dark-skinned Cammy, Vega as a brunette, and a younger M. Bison.

Evo Champions Kane Blueriver, Filipino Champ Clash at Winter Brawl X

Evo 2015’s Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 tournament presented one of the biggest upsets ever, with Team Black Eye’s Nicolas “Kane Blueriver” Gonzalez taking a first-place finish back to Chile as the first non-American champion. However, some have pointed out that he defeated only one of the so called “gods of Marvel” at the event, Evil Geniuses’ Justin Wong, making his victory less-than-impressive in their minds.

At Winter Brawl X, Gonzalez will try to put those doubts to rest against Panda Global’s Ryan “Filipino Champ” Ramirez, the Evo 2012 champion, in a first-to-fifteen exhibition match.

In a way, there couldn’t be a better matchup than this. With his status as an underdog thanks to rocking a team of Hulk, Haggar, and Sentinel, Gonzalez has become something of a symbol, showing that Marvel is no longer just an American game. Meanwhile, with his choice of high-level teams that emphasize calculated, defensive play, as well as his penchant for mind games in and out of competition, Ramirez has garnered a reputation of being a a bit of a heel in the community.

Will Kane Blueriver’s big body team be able to slay another god, or will Filipino Champ’s craftiness and cunning overcome the South American challenger? Feel free to take part in our poll below, and be sure to tune into Winter Brawl X, scheduled for February 26-28, to catch it all live.

Fresh Street Fighter V Footage Shows F.A.N.G’s Poison Abilities Can Be Devastating in the Right Hands

Since he was announced at PlayStation Experience back in December, we haven’t really seen much of Street Fighter V newcomer F.A.N.G. Aside from a few times where he’s been brought out by Capcom, Shadaloo’s newest fighter has been kept well under wraps.

For those looking for more footage of this elusive newcomer, the e-Capcom was recently updated with a quick match. Taken from a recent Puchikapu! Street Fighter V Special event, the replay shows off some good use of F.A.N.G.’s poison abilities, where he’s able to keep Nash in poison for almost an entire round.

In addition to this, they’ve also shared this other bit of footage from the event featuring Chun-Li and Vega.

Street Fighter V hits retail on February 16. A final beta is planned for this weekend.

These Ky Kiske Instant Kill Setups End Guilty Gear Xrd -SIGN- Matches in a Flash

Instant kills are one of the more stylish mechanics made popular by the Guilty Gear franchise. While somewhat similar to fatalities and finishing moves from other fighting games, these powerful attacks have the distinct advantage of being available during matches (should a few requirements be met, of course).

In his latest video, Kizzercrate demonstrates a number of way that Ky Kiske can set up instant kills in Guilty Gear Xrd -SIGN-. This compendium includes practical and impractical setups, from punishes to fancy combos to straight-up hard reads after random openings.

Be sure to check out their previous offering for even more setups.

Oni Goes Hard in This Stylish Ultra Street Fighter IV Combo Video

Oni is one of the more interesting additions to the Street Fighter IV series. While this powered up version of Akuma is considered a “shoto” by some, his moveset has enough differences that makes him quite unique from the others.

In the latest installment of his C.C.V. combo video series, Cjbqulix takes on Oni and demonstrates just how unique and stylish his combos can be in the right hands. These include some impractical setups using unique interactions with other characters’ moves to set up situations you’d rarely see in a real match, if at all.

Laura Tosses Chains, Mika Rocks a Shoryuken Thanks to Street Fighter V Model Swaps

When Street Fighter IV hit PC back in 2009, one of the first things that modders figured out was how to swap character models and movesets, and it looks like the same thing is happening now with Street Fighter V’s beta release.

A couple of new videos that surfaced recently show what happens when you swap one characters model for another, leading to some hilarious and sometimes disturbing looking animations the fighters stretch and squash to fit skeletons and moves that aren’t meant for them.

Some of the more notable examples include a gaunt, long-limbed Laura with Birdie’s moves and a disturbingly huge mouth, R. Mika with a flaming dragon punch, a squished Birdie using wrestling moves, Vega calling an assist from Laura, and much more.
