Poongko on His Top Player Status: “I don’t really see myself at a super high level like the pros.”

Lee Chung Gon, more commonly known as Poongko, recently celebrated his birthday, and took the time to sit down with Arcade Stream for a small interview.

In addition to talking about his sponsorship opportunities with r/Kappa, Poongko touches on how he thinks he stacks up against other top Ultra Street Fighter IV players Surprisingly, he doesn’t consider himself at the same “super high level” as other professional players, but he’s still grateful to be able to play on the same stage as them.

You can check out the entire video below. Aside from the interview, it also contains some footage from Poongko’s birthday celebration.

Check Out TheBlackHombre’s Specialized Super Smash Bros. Arcade Stick

One thing that can discourage any player from trying out Super Smash Bros. is the fact that the series isn’t built for traditional fighting game controls. Smash is still best played with a gamepad–preferably the GameCube pad–with an analog stick.

But that hasn’t stopped some players from figuring out how to play the game on an arcade stick. In this new video, FRC|TheBlackHombre explains how he modified an arcade stick, specifically a Qanba Q1, to work with Super Smash Bros.

Most of the work went towards creating a comfortable way of mapping Smash’s inputs onto the eight-button layout. The tricky bit was to allow a semblance of Smash’s analog controls using the standard digital joystick. This was done using a trick that folks who’ve played Smash with a keyboard on the Dolphin emulator might be familiar with: using a separate button to toggle the sticks inputs between full tilt and various degrees of tilt.

Check out the video below to see how this all works.

Chun-Li’s V-Trigger Provides Useful Juggle Opportunities in Street Fighter V

Last weekend, Capcom quietly conducted an “internal stress test” for Street Fighter V, which led to the game’s beta opening up for a limited amount of time. This allowed a few lucky folks to jump into training mode and even play a few matches online, even if the beta had yet to officially return.

Urichinan, who we’ve featured before in an earlier roundup, took the time to explore how Chun-Li could use her V-Trigger to juggle opponents in the current beta build. These combos include V-Skill launches, as well as some interesting anti-air and air-to-air setups where she can use her V-Trigger’s multi-hit properties to keep her opponents airborne longer than she normally could without it.

Check the video out below and share your thoughts in the comments.

Daigo Umehara and Machaboo Welcome sako to Their Guilty Gear Xrd -SIGN- Training Sessions

As you may already know, Mad Catz’ Daigo Umehara is hard at work training with Guilty Gear legend Machaboo for Toshin-Gekitotsu later this month.

During their latest stream, these two players invited a third teammate to their training session: HORI’s sako. While, like Daigo, sako is known more these days for his Street Fighter skills, we should note that they frequently matched up in Vampire Savior years ago, and sako has recently taken up Guilty Gear Xrd -SIGN- in addition to Ultra Street Fighter IV.

For those who missed the stream, Sony has you covered with archive footage of their session. Check out the footage and let us know how you think Daigo and sako are taking to Guilty Gear.

Toshin-Gekitotsu is scheduled for August 22. You can check out Daigo’s previous training streams here.

Street Fighter V Beta Client Updated on PlayStation 4

After Street Fighter V’s ill-fated beta last month, Capcom announced that they were rescheduling to a later date to give them time to address certain issues. While the company has yet to make a formal announcement on when the beta will be coming back, a recent development shows that it might be sooner rather than later.

A new update has been pushed out to the Street Fighter V beta client on PlayStation 4. Clocking in at just over 1 GB, it promises an improved log-in process and optimized matchmaking logic.

Please take note that access to the beta is still locked at this point. However, this new update seems to indicate that Capcom might have some news for us in the near future. Stay tuned for more details.

Taiwan Fighter Major 2015 Brings Capcom Pro Tour Action to East Asia on August 22

Taiwan is one country whose fighting game community is blowing up quickly. Thanks to players like AVerMedia’s GamerBee and Razer’s RB, the world has definitely started to take notice of this small island nation, and they have a chance to prove themselves even further at this month’s Taiwan Fighter Major 2015.

In addition to being a Capcom Pro Tour ranking event, Taiwan Fighter Major 2015 will also serve as a regional qualifier for Capcom Pro Tour Asia, giving the winner a chance to earn a spot in this year’s Capcom Cup at the grand finals event in Singapore this November.

That said, the local community will be up against some tough competition. International players like China’s Dark Jiewa, Hong Kong’s CCG|Humanbomb, Malaysia’s Chuan, and a host of Japanese players including YBK|Shiro, YBK|Kim1234, RZR|Itabashi Zangief, Misse, Gonzales, and KoujiKOG, are set to make appearances.

If you’re interested in throwing your hat into the ring, registration for the event is open up until August 19. Meanwhile, for those looking to catch all the action at home, Capcom Fighters will be providing an English stream alongside the Mandarin broadcast on TWFighter.

Weird Interactions Caused by Trades in Dead or Alive 5 Last Round

One of the most interesting things for players trying to break down how the system of any fighting game works is finding strange, unintended interactions. In many titles, trading attacks are often the catalyst.

In this new video, 0Harakiry explores some of the odd glitches caused by trades in Team NINJA’s Dead or Alive 5 Last Round. Some of these include seemingly “silly” interactions with the stages.

The video also explores how the game, which has no throw teching, handles trading throws, as well as other situations where both players try to do the same thing at the same time.

Maximize Faust’s Corner Damage in Guilty Gear Xrd -SIGN-

Dealing damage in the corner with Faust in Guilty Gear Xrd -SIGN- used to be a pretty simple affair. Any combo would usually just end with his spinning “Going My Way” special, maximizing damage and giving him good okizeme options afterwards.

However, as of the latest patches applied in arcades and on consoles, this is no longer the case. Thanks to a number of changes to Faust, both nerfs and buffs, he now has different combo routes in the corner.

To get players up to speed, Zissou has released a new tutorial video that goes over Faust’s options in these situations. Check the video out below and see if you can learn a thing or two from it.
