PDP Breaks Down Their Mortal Kombat X Fight Pad

For pad players who are still on the fence about their controller options for Mortal Kombat X, Performance Designed Products has released a new video where they break down the features of their latest official fight pad.

Designed specifically for fighting games, this controller features the six-button setup commonly seen in other pads designed for the genre. Though it uses a non-standard layout (with R1 and L1 on the last column, instead of the more common R1 and R2), it features something other pads don’t: microwitched buttons. This gives players more tactile feedback compared to other pads, which only use rubber contacts.

Other features discussed in the video below include the new directional pad as well as the ability to switch between current or last-generation consoles.

PDP’s Mortal Kombat X fight pad is expected to be available on April 1.

In preparation for Tekken 7, which will be making its North American debut at Final Round 18, Aris Bakhtanians from Avoiding the Puddle has created a new video centered around movement.

In the tutorial below, Aris discusses the importance of the game’s movement system and how it can be used to tie two moves together for a basic, but effective, strategy. While the demonstration itself uses Tekken Tag Tournament 2, the lessons that are taught here can apply to any game in the series.

Emmanuel “MASTER” Rodriguez Bids Farewell to Dead or Alive 5 Ultimate

While it suffered a bit from a buggy launch, Dead or Alive 5 Last Round has found quick adoption from its community thanks to an upcoming competitive tour and free upgrades for those who already have the previous version. That said, its predecessor was no slouch, considered by many to be one of the best competitive iterations the series has ever seen.

To celebrate the passing of Dead or Alive 5 Ultimate, long-time competitor Emmanuel “MASTER” Rodriguez put together a comprehensive combo video for Ryu Hayabusa. The exhibition aims to showcase almost all the combos that the super ninja has at his disposal, including more than a few stage-specific setups.

The end result, which you can see below, showcases the skill and knowledge of a player who has dedicated his entire career to a single character.

If you’d like a bit more insight into the work MASTER put into this project, he’s also shared a video where he discusses the creative process.

Ultra Street Fighter IV and Street Fighter x Tekken Headed for NVIDIA’s Shield Console

usfiv-poisoncviper-622-crop

During their press event at Game Developers Conference 2015, NVIDIA announced their new Shield console, an Android-based, Tegra X1-powered living room device capable of running games at 1080p and 60 frames-per-second.

As part of the reveal, the company also detailed a list of games coming to the console, a group that includes both Ultra Street Fighter IV and Street Fighter x Tekken.

While this sounds like a great announcement for Street Fighter fans looking into getting the new console, it does come with a catch. These titles, as well as all the other games mentioned, will be provided via NVIDIA Grid, the companies new cloud gaming service similar to OnLive or PlayStation Now.

As anyone who plays fighting games seriously knows, input delay can ruin the experience. While Ultra Street Fighter IV has been run on a cloud gaming service before courtesy of PlayStation Now, the general consensus is that the input delay inherent to the medium is far from ideal for the game. Whether or not NVIDIA’s Grid will have a solution for addressing this issue is as of yet unknown.

Avoiding the Puddle Takes a Closer Look at Tekken 7’s Combo System

Tekken7_Dragunov_Bryan_622_crop

With Tekken 7 nearing its March 18 arcade release date, as well as making an appearance at Final Round 18, anticipation for the game is quite high. For those looking for more information about the game and its systems, Flying Wonkey over at Avoiding the Puddle has posted an article that breaks down the combo system in the current build.

The article goes quite in-depth, poring over footage from the early release as well as impressions from other players and messages from Bandai Namco’s staff to give a picture how the gameplay stands at this point. One of the more important things it points out is the game’s very heavy damage scaling system, which seems to reward short combos that front-load their damaging moves.

Additionally, the article also notes that this gives insight into the probable routes that most optimized combos will take in the game–comboing into a launcher, filling in a few hits, then transitioning to the title’s new “Screw Attacks” (previously known as “Tailspins”) for the finisher.

Of course, this is just the surface of what the article covers. Head on over to Avoiding the Puddle to read more details, such as some new combos for the cast as well as the developer’s quick removal of a recently discovered floor break glitch.
