Final Showdown explores Goku and some of the things he can do in these new Dragon Ball FighterZ videos

Despite all that’s come to Dragon Ball FighterZ, series lead character Goku is still a solid fighter. While not one of the ones at the top of most tier lists, he’s still considered viable for competitive play.

In a recent series of videos, combo video genius Final Showdown has been exploring some of the things Goku can do in a series of short combo videos. The stuff in the videos below include combo routes explored in the search for the maximum optimal damage off of a low in the corner, meterless corner carries, and some really hard links.

“Footsies” fighting mini-game is now available for Android

As recently reported, HiFight has released their own fundamentalized, footsies-based fighting game, simply called Footsies. Now, for anyone who saw the game’s simple control scheme and thought “this would be perfect for mobile,” it turns out you’re absolutely right.

HiFight has announced that Footsies is now available for mobile devices running on Android OS. The game’s mobile version features the same gameplay as the PC original. However, it makes use of the mobile touch screen format to allow for two players to play on a single device!

As you can see from the tweet above, multiplayer takes advantage of the mobile touch screen format, using it to create a split screen, head-to-head layout. Both players simply hold different ends of the device to literally face off against each other.

Nintendo will be bringing Super Smash Bros. Ultimate to SDCC

With the game officially revealed at E3, fans are chomping at the bit for more chances to try Super Smash Bros. Ultimate before release. With this in mind, here’s some great news for any Smash fans heading to the San Diego Comic Con this weekend.

Nintendo has confirmed via Twitter that they will be bringing Super Smash Bros. Ultimate to the San Diego Comic Con for attendees to get try out. The game will be playable at both their booth on the show floor, as well as at the Nintendo Gaming Lounge inside the Marriott Marquis & Marina.

In addition to this, Nintendo is giving players chances to skip the inevitable lines. At the event, if a player tweets with the hashtag #BringMeSmash and it gets seen, then they can get a golden ticket that allows them to move to the front of the line.

Finally, they’re hosting the 64-player Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Arcadian Teen Tournament as well. This tournament, which is open to players from 13 to 19 years of age, will be held on July 21.

The San Diego Comic Con is taking place at the San Diego Convention Center from July 19 to 21. Meanwhile, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate arrives on the Switch on December 7.

Dragon Ball FighterZ getting base form Goku and Vegeta, Switch open beta in early August

It seems like big things are coming to Dragon Ball FighterZ, this coming August. Not only are two new characters coming into the game, but the Switch port is getting an open beta.

Bandai Namco Games has announced that base form Goku and base form Vegeta are coming to Dragon Ball FighterZ as DLC in early August. This shouldn’t be surprising, as back in February, data miners had found hints pointing to them being added as part of of the game’s season pass.

Both characters will feature unique moves that their other versions don’t have; base form Vegeta will have his “Galick Gun” energy blast, as well as his “Galaxy Breaker” which he used to finish off Nappa in the Saiyan Saga. Meanwhile, base Goku will be able to use his Kaio-ken, which he can power up from times 3 up to times 20 when a teammate falls. Of course, he’ll also bring his “Super Spirit Bomb”, which is stated to be the most powerful of all moves, but trades this off by being slow.

Both fighters are set to be available in early August and will be available for purchase for ¥500 in Japan, or about $4.99 in the US.

In addition to the two characters, Dragon Ball FighterZ’s Switch port will be getting an open beta in August as well. This beta will feature 3-on-3 battle locally.

Dragon Ball FighterZ is currently available for PlayStation 4, PC, and Xbox One with the Switch port is set to arrive on September 28.

Yoshinori Ono reveals the schedule for the Street Fighter V panel at San Diego Comic-Con

Capcom and Street Fighter have been a staple of the San Diego Comic-Con, as such it should be no surprise that the company will have a panel for the game at SDCC. And series producer Yoshinori Ono has revealed the schedule for their panel at SDCC 2018.

In the tweet below, Ono confirms that their Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition panel will take place at 2:00 PM this Friday, July 20 at room 6bCF.

In addition to this, the tweet above also confirms that he will be at the Capcom booth for some autograph signing sessions. The sessions will be at 2:00 PM on Thursday, 4:30 PM on Friday, and 11:30 AM on Saturday.

Now in previous years, Capcom has always had something to announce at the San Diego Comic-Con. Will we see our first in game glimpse of upcoming DLC character G at SDCC? We’ll find out this weekend when the San Diego Comic-Con takes place at the San Diego Convention Center, in San Diego, CA.

ARIKA to host a special Fighting EX Layer livestream with Street Fighter II creator Akira Nishitani

ARIKA seems to be on a roll with Fighting EX Layer; not only is it a great fighter, but it’s sold well enough that it’s getting its first batch of free DLC characters. With this, some may be wondering what’s on the horizon for this new fighter.

Well, we may get some answers soon. ARIKA will be hosting a special live stream with Daigo Umehara’s BeasTV on July 19 at 8:00 PM JST, or 4:00 AM Pacific. The stream will mark the first official stream from them since the game’s launch, and will feature none other than Street Fighter II creator — and ARIKA co-founder — Akira Nishitani.

As for the contents of the stream: the announcement video for the stream indicates that they’ll be showing off DLC characters Pullum Purna and Vulcano Rosso in-game for the first time.

Fighting EX Layer is now available for purchase on PlayStation 4.

Konami is releasing their own Shonen Jump platform fighting game: Weekly Shonen Jump Jikkyou Janjan Stadium

It seems that Bandai Namco’s Jump Force isn’t the only Shonen Jump fighting game in development. Konami has released details of their own fighter based on the storied manga publication.

Weekly Shonen Jump Jikkyou Janjan Stadium is a four-player mobile platform fighter that presents characters from multiple Shonen Jump franchises as super-deformed “Janjan Characters” from Konami. The game will feature characters from 39 Shonen Jump titles such as Dragon Ball Z, One Piece, Dr. Slump, Hunter X Hunter, and My Hero Academia when it launches on iOS and Android later this year. In addition to this, characters and franchises are planned to be added sequentially after release.

Being a mobile game, Weekly Shonen Jump Jikkyou Janjan Stadium uses a simplified control scheme that allows players to pull off special moves (SP moves) with only one button.

More info about the game is set to be released on both Shonen Jump and V-Jump magazines  in the future. In the meantime, check out the trailer and some screenshots.

Dead Or Alive 6 will have a mini tournament and “super” exhibition match at Evo 2018

As previously reported, Team NINJA is bringing their upcoming 3D fighter Dead Or Alive 6 to Evo 2018. With the game being at the biggest fighting game event on the planet, some may wonder if they’ll have any sort of competition for it. Well, it turns out that they will – Team NINJA will be hosting a mini tournament for their latest Dead Or Alive entry.

The Dead Or Alive 6 mini tournament at Evo 2018 is set to take place after the tournament for Dead Or Alive 5 Last Round. The tournament will have a 75 man limit, so interested players should head on over to Smash.gg to register.

In addition to the mini tournament, Team NINJA will also be hosting a “Super Exhibition Match” at the event. A part of Team NINJA will be inviting top DOA players from around the world to come to Evo.

Dead Or Alive 6 is set to arrive on PC, PlayStation 4, and XBox One in 2019. Meanwhile, Evo 2018 will be taking place at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas, NV from August 3 to 5, 2018.

Low forward your way to victory with Footsies, the ultimate footsies based fighting game from HiFight

Most people are familiar with HiFight for the various gameplay highlight clips shared on Twitter. However, it turns out that they has something else for fighting game fans — their own game.

In a recent tweet, HiFight announced their own freeware fighting game — Footsies. Here, players only have one attack button, and can only move (walk or dash) either forward or backward. They’re also given 2 normal attacks, a crouching forward kick done by pressing attack, and a standing knee, activated by hitting back and attack. Both of these normal attacks can be cancelled into one of two specials.

The special moves are done by holding down and releasing the attack button. The first of these special moves is a kick reminiscent of Ryu’s “Jōdan Sokutō Geri” from Street Fighter III, done by releasing the attack button without any directions held. The second is a Shoryuken, done by releasing the attack button while pressing either forward or backwards.

The game’s hyper focused gameplay is complimented by its highly abstracted aesthetic. The characters are simple, pixelated outlines, with animations based on Ryu from Street Fighter III. 

In a way, the game takes a similar approach to Divekick. The main difference here is that its core mechanics are built around a more familiar mold — the the footsies and neutral game of games like Street Fighter.

Games list for CEOtaku 2018 revealed

Aside from the main Community Effort Orlando tournament, one of CEO Gaming’s biggest events is CEOTaku: a tournament focused on anime games and less-mainstream titles. Now, Alex Jebailey has shared the games list for this year’s edition of the tournament.

The lineup covers just about every major anime fighting game out there. This ranges from big titles such as Dragon Ball FighterZ to smaller games such as Melty Blood, and even currently-unreleased games such as SNK Heroines: Tag Team Frenzy.
