SoulCalibur VI producer Okubo teases a second major single player mode, aside from Soul Chronicle

At E3 2018, one of the things that Bandai Namco was promoting was SoulCalibur VI‘s new story mode, called “Soul Chronicle”. However, it seems that this won’t be the only major single player mode for the game. In this week’s issue of Famitsu, producer Motohiro Okubo teased that SoulCalibur VI would have another big single player mode. “There’s one more major single-player mode we’re working on,” he states in the article, “but I can’t say anything about it for now”.

SoulCalibur as a series has been known for these kinds of big single player modes — such as SoulCalibur II‘s “Mission Mode”, and SoulCalibur III‘s “Chronicles of the Sword”. With this in mind, it looks like SoulCalibur VI may yet continue that tradition.

As for the rest of the article, it provides additional details about Soul Chronicle. It will play out with a combination of both 3D video and 2D hand drawn scenes, as well as the timeline; on the latter, Soul Chronicle will tell stories happening in the period between 1583 and 1590 CE, with a deep dive into the story that starts out in 1586 CE.

SoulCalibur VI launches on PlayStation 4, PC, and Xbox One on October 19.

Catch some extended footage of Dead or Alive 6 from E3 2018

With the announcement of Dead or Alive 6 prior to E3 2018, people have been hungry for more on this bold new entry in the series. For those looking for more footage, Wccftech has uploaded a new 15-minute video of raw gameplay onto their YouTube channel.

As stated above, the video below is a straight up capture of the game in its current state — no commentary, no cuts. This is the closest one can get to actually playing the game, without access to the test builds.

With this, we get a view of things that would normally get cut out in more-edited videos, such as menus and interfaces. One thing this reveals is that the build at E3 was of the PC version, indicating that it might be the lead platform this time out.

That’s not to say that the gameplay isn’t noteworthy; for one, we get a look at some forced-tech combos that have returned in this installment. We also get to see the game running with the easier, 3-way hold option for beginning players.

Dead or Alive 6 is set to launch on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One in early 2019.

SoulCalibur VI’s minimum PC requirements have been revealed

Aside from reviving  the franchise, SoulCalibur VI represents another milestone for the series — it’s the first time a new installment of the series will launch on PC. As such, many players are likely wondering what the game’s hardware requirements may be… now, wonder no longer.

Nvidia has posted an update on their site detailing what the minimum and recommended system requirements for the game will be. The minimum requirements are par for the course for most Unreal Engine 4 games, requiring only a Core i3-4160, 6 Gigabytes of RAM, and a GeForce 1050 or equivalent (or a GTX 660 or 750TI for those on older video cards). Recommended specifications follow the same trend, requiring a Core i5-4690, 8 Gigabytes of RAM, and the equivalent of a GeForce 1060.

Both specifications mention DirectX 11 and Windows 7 64-bit, so for anyone still running older versions (such as Windows XP), then it’s time to upgrade.

Of course, being on PC this means that, with powerful enough hardware, the game can be made to run at full 4K resolution and 60fps. Nvidia has already previously released footage of the game running at this resolution.

SoulCalibur VI will launch on PC, as well as PlayStation 4, and Xbox One on October 19.

Playable Terry Bogard and Mui Mui revealed in SNK Heroines: Tag Team Frenzy’s trophy list

To the victor goes the spoilers.

The trophy list for the PlayStation 4 version of SNK Heroines: Tag Team Frenzy has been revealed, and it seems that with it comes the identity of the final two members of the cast. Specifically, the trophy lists identify these characters as Mui Mui and Terry Bogard.

The trophies have been listed in trophy-hunting site Exophase. The specific trophies in question require players to complete the game’s story mode with a team using Terry or Mui Mui.

SNK Heroines: Tag Team Frenzy, Terry and Mui Mui trophies
Want to join Team Women Fighters?! Clear the story using Terry and Yuri.
Soo…Where should we go eat?  Clear the story using Mui Mui and Mian.

Of the two, it’s the addition of Terry that is quite surprising, considering that by no means does he fit the definition of a “Heroine”. Whatever his reason is for being in the game, he’s currently the only male character in it (unless the final boss does turn out to be Kukri… or should we say, Sandel Dark).

SNK Heroines: Tag Team Frenzy is set to launch on PlayStation 4, and Switch in the West on September 7.

Dead or Alive 6 won’t be getting the new characters from Dead or Alive Xtreme

With Dead or Alive 6 in development, there’s a lot of talk among fans about who will be making it into this new installment. As part of this, some may be wondering if the new characters introduced in the Dead or Alive Xtreme: Venus Vacation spin-off will make the cut…

For those not familiar with it, Dead or Alive Xtreme: Venus Vacation is a browser-based version of Dead or Alive Xtreme 3, developed in collaboration with DMM. One of the draws of the browser version was three new characters: Misaki, Luna, and Tamaki.

Now, in speaking to DualShockers, director Yohei Shimbori has confirmed that the three characters will not be added to Dead or Alive 6. The characters aren’t being excluded because of rights — Team NINJA owns them and not DMM, as some have speculated. Rather, it’s simply because the three characters weren’t designed as fighters. Shimbori even joked that, if they were to join the cast of DOA6, they would have to undergo combat training.

Of course, even without those three, Dead or Alive 6 still has a large lineup of possible characters within the shared DOA and Ninja Gaiden universe to choose from. We’re bound to learn more about who will make it into Dead or Alive 6 in the coming months, so stay locked on to Shoryuken.

Motohiro Okubo confirms Create-A-Soul and a Season Pass coming for SoulCalibur VI

In a recent interview with Newsweek, SoulCalibur VI producer Motohiro Okubo confirmed a couple of items coming to the game. The first of these is none other than the franchise’s famous “Create-A-Soul” mode. Introduced in SoulCalibur III, Create-A-Soul allows players to create their own custom character using a pre-determined moveset for casual play. Originally, the mode used unique movesets, however later games had custom characters use the moves of existing characters instead.

In the interview, Okubo confirms that Create-A-Soul would be returning to SoulCalibur VI, stating that it was a key element of the franchise. That said, he did state that they don’t know how it will look yet in the final game. [Editor’s note: Okubo has also indicated the intention to include a character creator in the title in prior interviews, including our own from E3.]

In addition to this, Okubo also confirmed that the game will have a Season Pass. Alongside this, he did confirm that there will be DLC content for the game, alongside future updates. He also mentioned that they plan to continue updating the game as long as the DLC lasts, but that this was all up to the reception of the fans. There has been no confirmation of what DLC content to expect.

IGN shows off 20 minutes of uninterrupted E3 footage featuring Geralt in SoulCalibur VI

Recently, IGN hosted an interview with SoulCalibur VI producer Motohiro Okubo on their E3 stream. As part of the interview, they showcased a decent amount of gameplay footage, including some with guest character Geralt of Rivia.

Now, IGN has uploaded a new video with the same footage of Geralt — but with no cuts. The video below features sets with some of the same matches shown at the interview. This time however, the matches are played straight with no interview audio playing over it, and no cuts to Okubo and the IGN staff, giving a clearer look at said matches.

SoulCalibur VI is set to launch on PlayStation 4, PC, and Xbox One later this year.

ARIKA’s latest Fighting EX Layer videos show off more match footage, Expert Mode

Fighting EX Layer is almost upon us — and to help keep the hype up for the game, ARIKA has released a couple of new videos of it in action.

The first of these showcases a number of matches. Specifically, we have Shirase versus Skullomania, then D. Dark takes on Garuda — before we see Skullomania again, this time against Blair Dame. In addition to showing these characters in action, it also gives us a sample of how some of the game’s Gougi systems work.

The second video from ARIKA, on the other hand, showcases the game’s “Expert Mode”. This is the game’s take on the combo challenge modes in other games. The difference here is that players are actually graded on their performance, which includes how long it takes for them to complete a course.

Fighting EX Layer arrives on PlayStation 4 on June 28.

Dragon Ball FighterZ hits Switch in Japan this September with a new “Extreme Type” control scheme, a Super Famicom classic, and more

At E3, it was revealed that Dragon Ball FighterZ would be making its way to the Switch. Now, we also know exactly when the game will be hitting Nintendo’s hybrid console (at least, in Japan). Bandai Namco will release their hit Dragon Ball-based tag-team fighter in Japan on September 27. And when it arrives, it will come with some features specific to that version of the game — the biggest of which is a new “Extreme Type” control scheme.

This new control scheme allows players to pull off special moves much more easily by pressing the the L and R buttons alongside a combination of other buttons (e.g. L and R plus Heavy Attack activates a Meteor Smash). This is so that the game can be played using the detached Joy-Con controllers.

In addition to this, the Japanese release will come with a few other extras, including a download code for Dragon Ball Z Super Butoden. Originally released for the Super Famicom back in 1993, this was one of the first fighting games based on the Dragon Ball Z franchise! Meanwhile, the Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan versions of Goku and Vegeta will also be unlocked early. Finally, it will also come with a SR card for Super Dragon Ball Heroes, the Dragon Ball Z: Data Carddass game.

For those interested in picking this up, Dragon Ball FighterZ for Switch is set to retail for ¥6,800 — lower than the original price of the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC versions.
