Get another look at Taki in SoulCalibur VI with some new art and screenshots

As we all know by now, series veteran Taki is returning to SoulCalibur VI. Now, for those looking to see more of the the series’ resident ninja, Bandai Namco have released new screenshots, as well as the official art for Taki in SoulCalibur VI.

The screenshots in the gallery below give us a closer look at the subtle changes to Taki’s look (including a new open-mouthed face mask). They also show more of the new glowing symbols she exhibits in a number of moves — something that’s most likely tied to the new systems that are being added into the game.

desk breaks Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition in his latest combo video

One of the most exciting things for people who study how fighting games work is finding unintended interactions — the kind that make the game behave in a way it’s not meant to. This kind of thing has been fodder for combo video makers since the dawn of the genre.

The latest game to be subject to this is none other than Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition, of course. The creator in question, none other than desk. In his latest video, the combo wizard explores a number of bugs, glitches, and unintended interactions in the game’s latest update. These include things as simple as getting characters to react to being hit in ways that they normally shouldn’t, to actually making certain character freeze in mid air, or having them fall through the floor.

Maximilian discusses how YouTube’s content policies creates difficulty for Mortal Kombat content

The quest for Kontent has Konsequences.

Last year, YouTube made changes to their advertising guidelines, that were supposed make it so that brands wouldn’t end up putting their ads on videos they didn’t want to be associated with. While this had the positive effect of demonetizing videos with hate speech and other offensive material, this has also negatively impacted some video game-based content.

FGC personality Maximilian discusses in a recent video that content created for Mortal Kombat has been hit hard by the new content guidelines. Not only do words such as “blood”, “fatality”, and “brutality” get flagged, but so too does the game’s title itself, it seems.

As the video below explains, getting flagged is no joke. The system for appealing a flagged video is not in the favor of the creator. Getting constantly flagged appears to also have the creator’s channel itself flagged for future content.

With this in mind, Max warns that anyone wanting to monetize videos based on the franchise will find it difficult, while also giving a couple of tips for anyone still wanting to do so.

New Fighting EX Layer trailer show off Hokuto and the title’s “Standard” and “Light” versions

A returning fighter and the multiple layers of Fighting EX Layer showcased.

ARIKA and PlayStation have dropped a bunch of new trailers for Fighting EX Layer today. The first of these trailers focuses on Hokuto, the game’s first DLC character available through its “Standard” version.

As veterans may already know, Hokuto is one of the original characters from Street Fighter EX. Specifically, she’s the former identity of Shirase — formerly known as Bloody Hokuto in those games — before the Seal of Blood on her was undone. As such, Hokuto in Fighting EX Layer seems to play more like her original Street Fighter EX incarnation (while Shirase plays more like Bloody Hokuto).

In addition to this, they’ve also released two trailers for the game’s “Standard” and “Light” versions. For those who aren’t familiar with these, the Standard version will retail for $59.99 and comes with the 12 base characters, 15 Gougi decks, and Hokuto. The Light version, on the other hand, will only retail for $39.99, but will still come with all 12 base characters (sans Hokuto), but only 5 Gougi decks.

Rock out to this combo music video for Menat, Dizzy, Nine, and Android 21

Throw down “to the beat of the rhythm of the night”

One particular sub-genre of combo videos is the “combo music video” where the creator does their best to make the combos on screen match the beat of a song being played. It’s an art that requires both impeccable timing as well as good video editing skills.

The latest creator to attempt one of these is Yi Xiao who started with what was supposed to be a combo video for Street Fighter V‘s Menat but ended up expanding it with more characters. Guilty Gear Xrd REV 2’s Dizzy, BlazBlue: Central Fiction’s Nine, and Dragon Ball FighterZ‘s Android 21 all join in on the combo music magic.

The video is set to the song 白い花 (Shiroihana) by Zone, from the soundtrack of Final Fantasy Tactics Advance, and features a number of editing tricks and transitions to do its best to match the song. Do they succeed in their effort? Check out the combo music video below to find out.

Mortal Kombat is set to get $5,000 in prize pool bonuses at Combo Breaker

Taking place in Illinios, Combo Breaker has earned a special place in the competitive Mortal Kombat community. Being just a stone’s throw away from Chicago, the home of series developers NetherRealm Studios (and their predecessor, Midway Games), it was only natural that the series would find a home at this event. Now, this year’s edition looks to be another big one for the Mortal Kombat community, with two of the series finest games receiving generous prize pool bonuses. Both the Mortal Kombat XL and Mortal Kombat 9 tournaments at Combo Breaker 2018 will each receive a $2,500 prize pool bonus from Warner Bros. and NetherRealm Studios.

It’s always nice to see support from a games developers and publishers. Even more so when one of the game’s being supported is one that’s already almost a decade old, and not even running on current hardware!

NurseLee showcases Ryu’s Jodan Nirengeki buff in the Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition’s “Season 3.5” balance update

“This is the path of my destiny!”

As part of the latest round of mid-season balance changes to Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition, Ryu received a buff in the form of changes to his Jodan Nirengeki target combo.

In this new video from NurseLee — who already made a video for the move midway through the last season — we get to see just how much the move has been buffed. The gist of things seems to be that Ryu gets better options out of the move, depending on the situation. This includes more combos with Crush Counter, as well as the ability to reset mid-screen from the same.

More Nintendo Switch Online details to be revealed next month

The curtain will rise slightly over Nintendo’s paid online service, more than a year after console’s launch.

With the growing number of fighting games — both modern and classic — making their way to Nintendo’s Switch, we’ve been following the news regarding the platform’s planned online service, titled Nintendo Switch Online. As part of the company’s latest financial results briefing, outgoing president Tatsumi Kimishima mentioned that the company will reveal more about Nintendo Switch Online this coming May, via a website update.

While most of the bigger titles have skipped the system, the Switch has gained a number of fighting games during its first year. This includes a number of remastered classics and arcade ports from companies like Capcom and SNK. This year, the system will see more than a few major releases in the form of SNK Heroines: Tag Team Frenzy, BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle and Super Smash Bros., on top of further classics like Guilty Gear XX Accent Core +R.  Whether or not they’ll take advantage of Nintendo Switch Online when it launches will surely come to light soon.
