Capcom plans to release two major titles before March next year, will look at dormant IPs and remakes

Capcom recently released their financial results presentation for the 2017 fiscal year (April 2017 to March 2018). While most of the data didn’t really contain any surprises, they did include some things that hint at their plans for the near future.

As part of the presentation, Capcom has promised to release two major titles by March 31, 2019. Now, while these may not necessarily be fighting games, it’s hard not to consider the possibility with how big a role the company plays in the genre.

In addition to this, however, they’ve also stated that they plan to look at their dormant IPs and possibly release remakes. This may be the more exciting prospect for fighting game fans. Capcom has a number of dormant fighting game IPs — such as Darkstalkers and Rival Schools — that still have dedicated fan bases to this day. It is possible one of these IPs could be brought back, especially considering that there are still people within Capcom who would love to do so.

Gunvolt is the latest character addition to Blade Strangers

Nicalis has revealed another indie game character that is joining their upcoming Blade Strangers. Gunvolt, the titular character from Inti Creates’ Azure Striker Gunvolt series, joins the fray in this crossover fighter.

Azure Striker Gunvolt and it’s sequel are the first IP self published by Inti Creates — a company more known for making the Mega Man Zero and Mega Man ZX games, as well as the ill-fated Mighty No. 9. The games themselves borrow a bit from the Mega Man Zero and ZX games, something which can be seen in how Gunvolt moves and plays. You can see a bit of this influence in the trailer that Nicalis shared over Twitter.

Blade Strangers launches on Switch, PlayStation 4, and PC this Summer.

Dark Horse’s ARMS graphic novel has been delayed to January 2019

As some of you may know, Dark Horse Comics was supposed to release a graphic novel based on Nintendo’s ARMS sometime this year. Well, we say “was”, because the graphic novel has been delayed to early next year.

The news was broken via the Free Comic Book day preview comic for the graphic novel that was released last Saturday. The cover of said comic — which you can see this in the photo by Twitter user Joe Fourhman — comes with small print stating that the graphic novel will be “available at your local comics shop in January 2019.”

As for why the graphic novel was delayed, no reason has been given as of yet.

Director Toshinobu Kondo talks about upcoming crossover fighter Blade Strangers with Nintendo Everything

Among this year’s crop of upcoming fighting games, Blade Strangers for Nintendo Switch may be the one that most fighting game fans are least familiar with. This crossover fighter, featuring characters from a number of Studio Saizensen and Nicalis’s games, pretty much came out of nowhere when it was announced last year.

In a recent interview, the game’s director Toshinobu Kondo got a chance to talk to Nintendo Everything about all things Blade Strangers. The interview covers a lot of ground, from basic development questions — such as character choice — to questions of why they decided to make the game in the first place. In fact, the question of why Studio Saizensen and Nicalis decided to make a fighting game is one of the first questions asked. The answer is simply that this came from the idea that fighting games are competitions based on all-stars that represent different fighting styles or countries.

In addition to this, he also talks about the game’s approach to art assets. Similar to a few other games, Blade Strangers starts with 3D models that are then rotoscoped into traditional sprites, albeit Studio Saizensen’s work with this technique tends to involve more automation and manual tweaking by artists. In fact, Kondo states that their work on Blade Strangers is the culmination of this technique, with the sprites requiring very little touch up from artists at all.

As for the game’s simplified execution requirements (special attacks are done with dedicated button presses), he states that they did this based on feedback from their previous games, where there was complaint about how the commands made the games more difficult to play. The concept then, according to Kondo, was to make a fighting game that more advanced players would still enjoy, without alienating beginners. Speaking of which, they do still care about high level play, at least when it comes to the game’s balance. Kondo stated that they have had the game tested by high-level players in Japan and are tweaking the balance based on their feedback.

Of course, this is just part of what they talk about in the interview. They also talk about the game’s cast, the features they’re adding to it, post launch support, and much more. You can check out the full interview over at Nintendo Everything.

Pop Culture Shock has a massive (and expensive) Shao Khan figure up for pre-order

Pop Culture Shock is now strange to big and expensive collectibles — last year, they shocked the world with their amazing Street Fighter V Chun-Li statue. Now the company is back with another monster of a figure, this time from Mortal Kombat: the emperor of Outworld himself, Shao Khan.

Standing (or more precisely sitting, as he is on his throne) at 35 inches tall, Pop Culture Shock’s Shao Khan statue is one of the biggest collectibles out there, and at $1,499 it’s also one of the most expensive. For the price, the 1:3 scale statue comes with mixed media for Shao Khan’s clothing, LED lighting, as well as swappable head and hand pieces, with the latter having the option of showing Shao Khan hold Onaga’s severed head.

Pre-orders for the statue are now open over on Pop Culture Shock’s site, with the figure expected to ship between June and August of 2019. Multiple payment plans are available for those who aren’t willing to drop the full amount of the statue, however those who do will be able to avail of a 15% discount.

Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition glitch reverses the inputs of Rashid, Alex, and Juri

It seems that a new glitch has been discovered in Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition. The glitch in question reverses the inputs of select characters, in certain conditions.

In a recent video, Loic “WydD” Petit — the developer behind the sfvism tool that lets players access data such as hit boxes — demonstrates the glitch in action, and gives an explanation of why it occurs.

Now, the video below focuses primarily on Rashid. However, the cause of the bug itself is actually a flag added to one of Alex’s moves in Arcade Edition. As such, any other moves with the same flag can suffer from the same glitch. So far, in addition to Alex and Rashid, it seems that Juri is also affected by the bug.

Here’s hoping that this glitch is addressed by Capcom sooner, rather than later!
