New My Hero Academia One’s Justice screenshots show off Tomura Shigaraki

Bandai Namco recently released a new batch of screenshots for My Hero Academia One’s Justice that showed off a new character joining the game’s cast: Tomura Shigaraki.

Leader of the League of Villains, Tomura Shigaraki uses is “Decay” quirk to make his opponents rot. In game, this means that every hit from it starts a countdown to decide the target’s fate. Getting four consecutive hits of this move will immediately bring their health down to zero.

In addition to this, the screenshots also show off more of the game’s “Sidekick System”. This system basically works like the assist characters system in other fighting games, with players able to select a “sidekick” who they can call on to provide support with the press of a button.

Here’s Bandai Namco’s official description of them.

Tomura Shigaraki

The leader of the League of Villains is Tomura Shigaraki! Using his quirk “Decay,” he will make his opponents rot and won’t hesitate to destroy anyone who stands in his way. For every consecutive hit of his special skill, a countdown starts to decide your opponent’s fate! When this special attack hits 4-times in a row, it will automatically decrease the opponent’s HP to 0!

Sidekick System

In the new Sidekick System feature, players will cooperate with two sidekicks in a fight turning the tide of battle! They can pair with a character of their choice and with one button they will receive various support from them. This is a perfect way to increase your odds in battle by creating devastating combos!

You can check out the screenshots of Tomura Shigaraki and the “Sidekick System” below.

The Smash Box controller will be legal at Evo 2018

Ever since it’s inception, Hit Box’s Smash Box has faced an uphill battle when it comes to acceptance in tournaments for Super Smash Bros. games. This is despite the merits of the Smash Box (and other similar all-button controllers), including allowing players with otherwise career-ending injuries to continue playing. Now, the tides seem to be turning, as the Smash Box has just been deemed legal in the biggest tournament of them all — Evo 2018.

In a recent tweet, Evo’s Joey “Mr Wizard” Cuellar announced that Smash Boxes will be legal to use at Evo 2018. Any Smash Box used at the event will simply have to comply with two conditions: they should not have software or hardware macros, and they should only have only one direction or input mapped for each button.

For anyone familiar with the general rules for controllers at most tournaments (not just Evo), the restrictions are basically the same ones for any other controller, be it an arcade stick or pad. This announcement (alongside the fact that it will also be legal at CEO in June) is great news for both Hit Box and players who want to use the Smash Box. This opens the doors for it being allowed in other tournaments as well.

SNK is working on a new patch to address minor issues in The King of Fighters XIV version 3.0

As you may recall, SNK recently updated The King of Fighters XIV to version 3.0, adding in new characters and a host of balance changes. That said, any new patch usually comes with the risk of new bugs and glitches… In a recent tweet, SNK announced that they have found some “minor issues” in The King of Fighters XIV version 3.0, and as such are working on a new patch (version 3.01) to address these.

No specific details of the issues that they found have been given as of the time of writing; the only bug that’s been brought to our attention at this point is Heidern’s “Storm Bringer bug” which is probably intentional, seeing as it’s been in previous games. That said, it’s nice to know that SNK is already hard at work addressing any issues that may have been found in this otherwise excellent update.

The King of Fighters XIV‘s version 3.0 patch was released last April 12 for both PlayStation 4 and PC. No word as of yet has been given as for when the 3.01 update will arrive.

Atlus is bringing Virtua Fighter crossover costumes to their upcoming Persona 3 dancing game

For any Virtua Fighter fans out there desperate for any news about their beloved franchise, here’s an interesting slice. Atlus has announced that Virtua Fighter crossover costumes will be coming to their upcoming rhythm game Persona 3: Dancing Moon Night.

The Virtual Fighter DLC costumes were announced at recent Sega Fes 2018 hosted by their parent company Sega. With it, players will be able to dress up characters in this game as characters from Virtua Fighter.

Persona 3: Dancing Moon Night is one of a pair of Persona based dancing game Atlus is releasing next month. The other game, Persona 5: Dancing Star Night will be having Sonic the Hedgehog and Yakuza crossover DLC instead.

While it’s not a new game in the storied Virtua Fighter franchise, this announcement does seem to indicate that Sega believes that the Virtua Fighter franchise is still something that people will spend money on. Here’s hoping for more Virtual Fighter in the future.

Tekken 7’s performance issues on PC are due to DRM software

Tekken 7 player on PC may have noticed that the game occasionally suffers from slips in performance every now and then… Now, the game’s director Katsuhiro Harada has spoken out about the issue, and the cause of it.

In a recent series of tweets, Harada has stated that the frame rate drops are not related to either graphical or processing power. Rather, it’s due to the DRM program that the game runs to protect it from piracy — Denuvo.

As for fixing the issue, Harada mentioned that they are working with Denuvo, and waiting on an update from them that should address the issue.

Those familiar with Denuvo are probably aware of the DRM program’s controversial reputation. The program has proved unpopular with gamers with many pointing to the fact that, aside from it causing performance issues, it also supposedly shortens the lifespan of solid-state drives. This is on top of generally being difficult to remove from PCs, even after the game it came with has been uninstalled. This has caused some companies to eventually remove it from their games — however, it seems that this will not be the case for Tekken 7.

Responding to some players questions about Bandai Namco removing Denuvo from the game, Harada had this to say.

It seems that, while the piracy issue isn’t that important to Harada, they do have to protect the rights of other companies whose IP is in the game.

Combos for old and new characters abound in this The King of Fighters XIV version 3.0 roundup

As you may already know, The King of Fighters XIV version 3.0 brings with it a host of balance changes, as well as new characters. As such, the KoF faithful have been hard at work dissecting the new patch. While it’s barely been a day since the patch hit, a number of players have already figured out things for both new and old characters alike.

Being a newcomer to the series in general, there’s a lot of interest in Arabian newcomer Najd. Right now, people are just figuring out how to deal damage with her in her combos, such as in this video by Shiki.

While, as the video above states, her initial damage seems to be low, they were able to figure out an 800 damage combo with her.

In addition to Najd, Shiki’s also been figuring out stuff for returning fan-favorite Blue Mary, such as this combo.

As well as sharing a tip on getting one of her links down.

Here’s another Blue Mary combo from KOF da Depressao, demonstrating a double MAX Mode activation series.

Wauhti demonstrates a similar combo, this time from mid-screen.

Moving on to the other new character, we have this Oswald combo from KCOpedro.

Additionally, HB Hollaback posted a video to remind players about how Oswald’s “Heart” special move can negate and even reflect projectiles.

Meanwhile, diz focuses on Heidern, and how his forward and B (light kick) leads to a hard knockdown when juggled into, leading into some mix-up opportunities.

Moving on to the older characters, Chris “Hellpockets” Fields demonstrates how Joe Higashi players no longer have to delay cancel the Golden Tiger super after his Slash Kicks to get the full juggle.

Shiki on the other hand, demonstrates how Shun’ei now has an easier time crossing up with his jump D.

El Rosa meanwhile showcases how Ramon’s light punch feint step leads to a hard knockdown.

Wauhti demonstrates how Angel’s command grab can now lead to okizeme opportunities using her “teleport”.

SAB-CA demonstrates how Tung Fu Rue can use his Senpuu Gouken to punish projectiles, even super ones.

Speaking of punishes, White-AshX demonstrates how Mian can now punish whiffed DPs with a devastating 5-bar combo.

Moving on to combos doing big damage, Straywolf demonstrates a new max damage combo for Hein.

Tortilla, on the other hand, showcases a new corner combo that Sylvie Paula Paula can use.

Of course, not everything people are posting is about new tech or combos — Benimaru, for example, has a few nerfs, as demonstrated by these videos from KCOpedro.

One character who definitely wasn’t nerfed is Vanessa who, aside from getting better frame data, seems to have a new stun combo, replacing the one SNK removed as this video from GeOs demonstrates.
