The Killer Instinct Ultra Tour is coming to Combo Breaker with a $15,000 prize pool bonus

Combo Breaker has always been an important tournament for the Killer Instinct community — the name of the tournament itself should already clue people in on that. As such, it should be no surprise that the tournament will be part of the Killer Instinct Ultra Tour!

As a part of the Killer Instinct Ultra Tour, the Killer Instinct event at Combo Breaker will also be getting a $15,000 prize pool bonus. The money for this will be coming from the Kilgore Community Fund that Microsoft and Iron Galaxy have put up to help support tournaments, based on sales of DLC character Kilgore.

For those wondering how the prize pool will be divided, Combo Breaker has confirmed that the the top 16 players from the Killer Instinct tournament at Combo Breaker will be receiving a payout.

Combo Breaker 2018 takes place from May 25 to 27 at the Mega Center at Pheasant Run Resort in St. Charles, Illinois.

NIS America talks SNK Heroines: Tag Team Frenzy with Alex Valle at Wednesday Night Fights

At last week’s Wednesday Night Fights, NIS America brought along a pre-release build of SNK Heroines: Tag Team Frenzy. Aside from giving players a chance to try the game out, it also gave Level|Up Series’ Alex Valle a chance to talk to them about the upcoming title.

Alex Valle got a chance to talk with NIS America’s Senior Product Marketing Manager Travis Shrodes on a number of things about SNK Heroines: Tag Team Frenzy; the result is a pretty extensive 50-plus minute interview — that you can watch below!

For those who may not have time to watch the whole thing, here are some notes from the interview:

  • SNK wants to make a more approachable The King of Fighters, hence the simplified control scheme and auto-combos. However, auto-combos are not the most optimal way to play.
  • The game has 1-button supers. They were mapped to R1 in the build shown (PlayStation 4 version).
  • You can tag mid-combo by pressing R2.
  • Items (which are mapped to the right analog stick) can be turned off.
  • There are 20 items in the game.
  • Fights are 1 round only.
  • The game supports 4-player local play on the same console.
  • There are no sweeps. Hard knockdowns can only come from throws.
  • Guard breaks are in the game.
  • Players can get stunned if they’re hit while their health bar is flashing at 10% life.
  • The game will have a story mode.
  • The game could possibly have a guest character from another fighting game franchise.
  • SNK is aware that fans want Miss X (the cross-dressing Iori from SNK Gals’ Fighters)

In addition to these, they also announced that the game will be at PAX East on April 6, and that they will reveal a character there.

Kinetiquette’s first Guilty Gear statue is Dizzy, and it’s now available for pre-order

Kinetiquettes has done a bang-up job with their dioramas and statues from various fighting game franchises. However, there’s one franchise that they have yet to touch — until now, that is.

The 39cm x 67cm diorama features series tritagonist Dizzy based on her appearance in Guilty Gear Xrd. Alongside Dizzy, her wings Necro and Undine are also on display.

Kinetiquettes will Only 500 of these dioramas, so interested fans should considering pre-ordering as soon as possible. The diorama is going for $649.00 — though, as with all Kinetiquettes pre-orders, buyers can also opt to pay via 3-month and 6-month installment plans.

SNK Heroines: Tag Team Frenzy is coming to arcades in Japan

During yesterday’s THE KING OF FIGHTERS XIV Arcade Ver. BURN2FIGHT 2018 event, SNK had an announcement to make about SNK Heroines: Tag Team Frenzy. They revealed that their upcoming all-girl tag team fighting game would be getting an arcade version in Japan.

Specifically, SNK Heroines: Tag Team Frenzy would be coming to Taito’s NESiCAxLive 2 platform. (This is the same platform that runs The King of Fighters XIV‘s arcade version.) Other details regarding the arcade version have yet to be revealed, though the fact that it’s on NEXiCAxLive 2 should mean that it allows for online play between cabinets in different game centers.

While SNK has moved on to publishing more on consoles as of late, the company hasn’t forgotten its arcade roots. As previously mentioned, The King of Fighters XIV eventually got an arcade version (and later, PC release.) As such, it’s nice to see them continuing to do so with SNK Heroines: Tag Team Frenzy.

SNK Heroines: Tag Team Frenzy is coming to PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch in the Summer of 2018. No word yet on when the arcade version will launch.

The Street Fighter 30th Anniversary Collection has been delayed in Japan

sf 30th games

As you may know, the much-anticipated Street Fighter 30th Anniversary Collection will launch this May 29th. However, it seems that will no longer be the case in Japan.

Producer Tomoaki Ayano recently made an announcement over at the game’s official Japanese site regarding the delay. The release date has been moved from “Spring 2018” to a more nebulous “to-be-determined”.

According to the announcement, the reason for the delay is because they have received a lot of feedback from the fans, since the collection was first announced back in December of last year. As such, they have decided to move the release date in Japan to be able to address this.

As for what exactly the feedback was related to, they didn’t specifically say. That said, the original announcement for the Street Fighter 30th Anniversary Collection indicated that it would have English titles, voicing, and text (likely including the names of the Street Fighter II bosses). As such, this could be the main thing being addressed in the delay — especially since no such delay has been announced for the West.

The King of Fighters XIV’s new characters Najd, Heidern, and Oswald will be playable at events in Japan this weekend

With The King of Fighters XIV getting four new DLC characters, some fans may be curious about how they will affect the game’s balance and meta. Fortunately, SNK knows the value of testing, and will be holding preliminary tests of the game with the three currently-revealed characters at a couple of events in Japan next week.

The first of these events will be at AnimeJapan 2018, taking place this weekend from March 24 to 25, at the Tokyo Big Sight Hall. The King of Fighters XIV with Najd, Heidern, and Oswald (as well as the Riyadh stage) will be at the Manga Productions booth at the event on both days.

As previously reported, Manga Productions worked with SNK on the design contest that produced Najd. As such, participants in the test will also receive a special Najd badge.

For anyone attending, take note that they will be running the PlayStation 4 version of the game, using the DualShock 4 controller.

In addition to the AnimeJapan 2018 test, SNK is also holding the THE KING OF FIGHTERS XIV Arcade Ver. BURN2FIGHT 2018 event, on Saturday, March 24.  The event will take place at MEGARAGE on the 3rd floor of the Taito Station Mizoguchi.

In addition to the location test, there will also be a mini-concert by the SNK sound team!

Injustice 2’s Legendary Edition patch goes live on March 22

As previously reported, Injustice 2 will be getting a “Legendary Edition” next week on March 27. However, for those who already have the game, the Legendary Edition is coming early via a patch this coming Thursday, March 22.

The patch is expected to bring new things into the game: new gear, skins, and even some balance changes. Most of these will likely be detailed in NetherRealm’s Watchtower stream, which is scheduled for 3:00 Central Time today.

However, one thing that is coming is that all players Regen Tokens will now be converted into credits. This was explained in a post in the Warner Bros’ Games forums as necessary to “maintain the integrity of the leveling mechanic”. This means, come the patch, both new players and veterans will start at an even playing field in pursuing the new level 30 playing cap. After this however, players can begin collecting Regen Tokens once again.

Tsuyu Asui, Momo Yaoyorozu, and Denki Kaminari coming to My Hero Academia: One’s Justice

Bandai Namco has announced three more characters for My Hero Academia: One’s Justice. Tsuyu Asui, Momo Yaoyorozu, and Denki Kaminari will be playable in the upcoming arena fighter based on the My Hero Academia manga and anime franchise.

The three were announced in a recent issue of Jump magazine. The issue showed the three character as well as some in game screenshots of them.

Of the three, Tsuyu Asui, a.k.a. Froppy, may be the one most people may be familiar — being one of the most popular and memetic characters to come out of the series. For those not familiar with her, her powers basically have her able to do whatever a frog can — something reflected in the screenshots below.

The more conventional-looking Momo Yaoyorozu, a.k.a. Creati, has the power of creation. She’s able to create just about any non-living object out of her body. One quirk of this power is that it’s tied to her food intake. It’ll be interesting to see how this will be represented in game.

Another character with an interesting quirk to his powers, Denki Kaminari, a.k.a. Chargebolt, can produce electricity from his body, to a point. Once he goes over the limit however, he shorts out his brain and lower his intelligence for at least an hour. Again, this may be something fleshed out as a mechanic for him.

We’ll likely learn more about these characters in the near future. In the meantime, check out this scan of the issue from Shonen Gamez.
