Legends become real when Broly and Bardock drop into Dragon Ball FighterZ on April 28

Bandai Namco has just dropped a new Dragon Ball FighterZ trailer; alongside showcasing DLC character Bardock, it also reveals the date of when we’ll be getting both Bardock and Broly: April 28! Alongside Bardock and Broly, Bandai Namco will also be releasing a Commentator Voice Pack, that will allow Chichi, Videl, and Android 18 to commentate fights.

Going back to the trailer: aside from showing some of Bardock’s moves, we also get glimpse of his Super Saiyan form during his Meteor Attack. This was originally shown in a side story called Episode of Bardock which saw him sent back in time due to the destruction of Planet Vegeta. Here, ascending to Super Saiyan while fighting one of Frieza’s ancestors caused said ancestor of Frieza pass on the legend of the Super Saiyan to his descendants.

What’s interesting about this is that this means that both characters in this batch of DLC are related to the Super Saiyan legend — Broly being the “Legendary Super Saiyan”, and Bardock being the one who may have started it (at least when it comes to Frieza’s family!).

PQube is bringing BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle to Europe this summer, pre-orders now open

For a while now, we’ve known about the release dates for BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle for Japan and North America. But this begs the question — what about Europe? Well, now we have a general idea of when the game will be coming out in that region as well.

PQube has announced that they’re will be bringing BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle to Europe this summer. While Arc System Works will be self-publishing the game in Japan and North America, the UK-based publisher will be handling the game’s release on both PlayStation 4 and the Nintendo Switch in Europe.

Though it’s not an exact date, at least Europeans now have a general idea of when they’ll be getting the game in their regions. More importantly, they know that they’ll be getting in just about the same time as other regions — something that hasn’t always been the case with Arc System Works fighting games.

For interested players, pre-orders for BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle in Europe are now open on PQube’s online store.

In the meantime, check out the new European release trailer for the game below.

As for other regions, BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle launches on PlayStation 4 and Switch on May 31 in Japan, and June 5 in North America.

Souls and swords clash in this SoulCalibur VI pre-release exhibition tournament footage from Final Round 2018

While games such as Street Fighter V: Arcade EditionDragon Ball FighterZ, and Tekken 7 were the main focus of Final Round 2018, Bandai Namco’s upcoming SoulCalibur VI also had a presence at the event. As part of such, a pre-release exhibition tournament was held at Final Round XXI: this allowed players to show off what the game may look like in high-level play.

For those who missed the exhibition tournament on the stream, Bifuteki has now uploaded the footage from the stream onto their YouTube channel. The footage consists of a half-hour-long video, with all of the matches included.

Tekken 7’s arcade version is getting a “Summer Lesson” in costumes on April 4th

Tekken 7 is no stranger to special collaboration content with other IPs — so far, the game has had collaborations for IdolmasterTaiko Drum Master, and New Japan Pro Wrestling. This time Tekken 7‘s arcade version is getting a special collaboration event with Namco’s own Summer Lesson VR game on April 4.

For those who aren’t familiar with it, Summer Lesson puts the player in the virtual shoes of a tutor who’s tasked with teaching three schoolgirls over the summer. While it seems like a strange IP to collaborate with, Summer Lesson itself is a project of Tekken series producer Katsuhiro Harada.

The collaboration consists of the following items:

  • Hikari Miyamoto costumes for Asuka, Kazumi, Josie, and Eliza
  • Allison Snow costumes for Xiaoyu, Katarina, Master Raven, and Nina
  • Chisato Shinjo costumes for Lili, Lucky Chloe, and Alisa
  • Summer Lesson collaboration interface
  • “Fluffy Allison” item (usable by all characters)
  • “Fluffy Chisato” item (usable by all characters)
  • “Fluffy Hikari” item (usable by all characters)

Whether or not this content will make it into the PlayStation 4, XBox One, and PC versions of Tekken 7 is, as of yet, unknown. However, considering that the previous collaborations with Idolmaster, and Taiko Drum Master did make it into the home versions, it’s likely this one will as well. In the meantime, check out the trailer for the collaboration below.

Here are some new screenshots and details for the 2nd DLC wave for Pokkén Tournament DX

Pokkén Tournament DX is getting its second wave of DLC pretty soon. For those who haven’t caught up with the additions coming to the game, some new details and screenshots have surfaced of the latest playable Pokémon, Blastoise.

There’s also two assist Pokémon being added — Mew has a move unique to this game called Miracle Power. This increases the synergy gauge, as well as both attack power and critical hits. Celebi, on the other hand, uses an attack that causes a Phase Shift (which switches the game from 3D arena phase to its more traditional 2D phase), even when it’s blocked.

In addition to these, the DLC will include new player outfits, and outfits for Nia. The player outfits are a Blastoise T-Shirt, Rock Guitar Set, Bi-Colour Hair, Glasses, and a Refreshing Stole.

Finally, along with the DLC, there will also be a special Group Match called “Gun Destruction”. This event, which runs from March 23 through March 25, is a team battle competition held in the Fixed Battle Arena. Participating in the event will earn players a Blastoise-based title reward, as well as other titles based on their placement.

Blastoise, Mew, and Celebi are coming to Pokkén Tournament DX on March 23. In the meantime, check out these screenshots of the new ‘mon, and of Pokkén’s latest outfits.

ARMS director Kosuke Yabuki talks about updates, and the possibility of a sequel

Nintendo’s stretchy arena fighter ARMS  is one of the most unique games — let alone fighting games — to come out on any system. Its unique combat, controls, and character designs have endeared quite a number of people to it.

This week’s issue of Famitsu includes an interview with the director behind ARMS, Kosuke Yabuki. As part of the interview, Yabuki was asked about the future of the game, including whether or not he would like to see a sequel. Responding to this, Yabuki stated that since the game was less than a year old, they will continue to work on updates to it. That said, he also said that he would eventually like to continue the game’s story, someday.

Whether or not that means we’ll get a sequel, it’ll probably take a while before that happens. Yabuki is, at the moment, still busy with the game — specifically preparing for its official launch in South Korea on April 12.

Street Fighter gets ported to the real world with the help of augmented reality

Ever imagine what how it would feel like to see Ryu and Ken duking it out on your own street? Or maybe see E. Honda and Dhalsim trading blows by your local corner store. Well, imagine no more, thanks to this tech demo that ports Street Fighter to the “real world” via augmented reality.

Called Street Fighter II: Real World Warrior, the homemade tech demo was made by noted AR developer Abhishek Singh, who famously made that first-person Mario demo for Microsoft’s HoloLens.

Now, the gameplay itself is nothing that any fighting game veteran would call “competitive”. The animations are quite slow, and are tied to a weird 3-button control scheme. However, it’s the possibilities that this opens up that are exciting: imagine what an actual officially licensed and developed AR implementation of any fighting game franchise could look like!
