Capcom details Street Fighter V’s Extra Battle mode and earning crossover costumes

One of the new features being added to the Arcade Edition update for Street Fighter V is the long awaited Extra Battle mode. Now, Capcom has given out the details of not just how this mode works, but on how players can use it to earn some of the new crossover costumes.

Extra Battle is a new spin on how Capcom does weekly challenges for Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition. Instead of just awarding Fight Money, Extra Battle allows players to directly work towards earning one of the update’s new crossover costumes. These costumes are based on other Capcom franchises, including some classic ones. Check these out in the gallery below.

Every month, there will be a series of four weekly challenges in Extra Battle that players must complete. If a player completes all four of these challenges, then the crossover costume for that month is theirs. The first of these to go up for grabs will be the Viewtiful Joe costume for Rashid.

One unique twist to this (one that might not sit well with the community) is that it costs Fight Money to participate in these weekly challenges — 2,500 to be exact. This means that players will have to spend 10,000 Fight Money just to earn each crossover costume.

Of course, Extra Battle will also allow players to earn Fight Money. This is through the Golden Shadaloo soldier that will appear that is separate from that week’s challenge. Winning over these challenges will earn players Fight Money, serving as a way to help replenish a players wallet throughout the year.

As part of this however, Capcom will be changing other ways of earning Fight Money. Some of the old, one time ways to earn Fight Money such as completing character stories, the general story (A Shadow Falls), trials, survival, and demonstrations will no longer do so. Instead, experience points and leveling characters up now seems to be the primary way of earning Fight Money outside of winning online matches. According to Capcom, simply leveling up each of the 28 characters by playing their character stories should earn players 200,000 Fight Money.

As for players current Fight Money and League Points, Capcom clarified that these will remain unchanged when the update hits.

Meanwhile, when the update drops, all character purchases from either real money or the Character Pass will now unlock that characters Battle Costume as well as colors 3-10 for their Standard and Battle Costumes.

Speaking of costumes, players can now preview costumes in the shop. This is on top of a new sorting option to allow players to much more easily check out what costumes are available for a character.

The Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition update will launch on January 16. As part of this Capcom has stated that they will be posting details on each months crossover costume and Golden Shadaloo soldiers over on Twitter and Facebook.

ETC|McFly shows off some combos from the Omen of Sorrow demo

If there’s any group of players who’re very familiar with Omen of Sorrow, it has to be the Elite Tournament Chile players. These players have had multiple chances to try out the game thanks to AOne Games giving them some hands-on time with it.

One of their players, McFly, has taken the demo build of the game that was playable last weekend to show off some of the combos that were possible in it. Most of the combos in the video below were performed during a recent stream by McFly and include some commentary (for those who can understand Spanish). For the rest of us, well, the combos themselves are already impressive on their own.

Toaru Majutsu no VIRTUAL-ON demo coming to PSN on December 14

Some players may still be trying to wrap their heads around Toaru Majutsu no VIRTUAL-ON‘s concept of a crossover between the VIRTUAL-ON and Toaru Majutsu no Index franchises. For those still confused about this, it seems that there’ll be a chance for players to try the game out soon!

In a recent interview with Dengeki Online, producer Juuro Watari confirmed that a demo for the game will be coming out on December 14. The demo will allow players to try out all 13 characters (and virtuaroids) in both tutorial missions, and battles against the AI. In addition to this, ad-hoc versus games are enabled locally for the PlayStation Vita demo.

Sadly, the demo will not have online battles. That said, having all 13 characters playable is a pretty significant thing for a demo.

Aside from this, Watari also addressed concerns from some fans regarding some characters from Toaru Majutsu no Index not making the game. He stated that he does want to do something about this, but that it depends on player feedback.

Toaru Majutsu no VIRTUAL-ON launches on PlayStation Vita and PlayStation 4 in Japan on February 15, 2018.

New “Ready Player One” trailer has cameos from Street Fighter’s Ryu and Chun-Li

Over the weekend, Warner Bros. dropped a new trailer for Steven Spielberg’s upcoming adaptation of Ernest Cline’s videogame-themed novel. Previous trailers for the film already showcased a number of pop culture and video game references, and this one had even more — and something special for fighting game fans.

Among the many cameos in the trailer are some from the granddaddy of all fighting games, Street Fighter II. The most prominent has to be none other than the first lady of female fighting game characters, Chun-Li, who can be spotted as part of a charge of other characters at around 2 minutes and 5 seconds into the trailer.

However, in addition to this, Ryu also makes a cameo appearance. The eternal wanderer can be seen continuing his wandering journey walking alongside race cars at the start of a race at around 43 seconds in the trailer.

Of course, the Street Fighter cameos are just two of the dozens of cameos in the trailer below. Check it out, and see who else is in the trailer.

Ready Player One hits theatres on March 30, 2018.

Sakura’s “Exuberant Youth” brings new moves, extended combos, and juggles when she hits Street Fighter V

Sakura’s initial gameplay trailer for Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition hinted at a character with both new and familiar moves, and variety of way to combo and juggle her opponents with her V-Triggers. Now, we know how these will work thanks to more details from Capcom-Unity.

Having finally graduated from high-school, Sakura now hones her fighting skills while working part-time at an arcade. As part of her growth, she now gains a new move in the form her Tengyo Hadouken: a fireball that she fires diagonally into their air. It’s similar to her diagonal hadouken from the Marvel Vs. games (though that one had a different story behind it — Sakura just couldn’t control her fireballs, causing them to fly up).

Tengyo Hadouken (as seen in the trailer) is a new special move.

Meanwhile, one of her old moves, Sakura Otoshi, now becomes part of her V-Skill, Haru Kaze. As with her old Sakura Otoshi, Haru Kaze has Sakura leaping into the air towards her opponent, ready to give an overhand smash. The difference is that the overhand Sakura Otoshi smash is just one of her options out of Haru Kaze. By pressing kick, instead of punch, she will do Oukakyaku, which some players will recognize as her divekick from Capcom vs. SNK 2. Finally, pressing light punch and light kick will have her do a command grab called Kashinfu, which has her use her opponents as a springboard, similar to her old throw animation.

Sakura Otoshi is just one option out of the Haru Kaze V-Skill.

As for her V-Triggers, the trailer hinted at them changing the properties of her special moves, to allow her create extended combos and juggles — and we can confirm that that is the case. The difference between her two V-Triggers is what specific specials they modify.

Her first V-Trigger, called Haru Arashi, has her fists enveloped in blue energy. When this is active, her Hadouken and Tengyo Hadouken are powered up, giving them an additional hit that puts her opponent in a juggle state. This allows her to land extra hits after hitting with either move. In addition to this, hitting fierce punch and roundhouse kick at the same time again has her pull off a powerful palm thrust, called Hogasho.

Haru Arashi lets Sakura juggle out of her Hadoukens.

Sakura Senpu, her second V-Trigger, on the other hand powers up Sakura’s Shouoken and Senpuukyaku. Both moves become improved versions of their EX versions, and gain an extra hit that sends her opponent flying. This allows Sakura to cancel into her V-Skill into either Sakura Otoshi or Oukakyaku to extend her combos.

Sakura Senpu lets her use V-Skill to combo out of Shouoken and Shunpuukyaku.

Finally: Sakura’s Critical Art, Sakura Rain, takes inspiration from all her previous super moves. At first, the move seems to simply be a powered-up super fireball. However, if Sakura lands this move right next to an opponent, it goes into the extended animation that’s based on both her classic Haru Ichiban and Midare Zakura supers.

Final hit of her Critical Art, Sakura Rain.

In addition to her V-System moves, the Capcom-Unity blog also gave us our first look at her alternate costumes; Sakura has 3 costumes: her Story mode outfit (which seems to be what she wears to her job in the arcade), a Battle outfit that has her wearing a white dougi similar to Ryu, and of course her classic schoolgirl uniform as a Nostalgia costume. Of these, the Battle outfit will be included for those who purchase the season 3 character pass.
