Here’s a quick look at SoulCalibur VI’s gameplay from the PlayStation Experience Opening Celebration

As part of Sony’s PlayStation Experience Opening Celebration, the company showed a number of trailers and videos for games coming to the system. One of these videos was some actual gameplay from Bandai Namco’s SoulCalibur VI.

The footage showed Mitsurugi and Sophitia in action against each other. Now some of the footage isn’t exactly new, bits of it can bee seen playing in the background of Bandai Namco’s official website. Still, there’s much to dissect here, especially with what we know about the game’s new “Reversal Edge” mechanic.

For those who missed the video, GamersPrey has shared a recording of it from the PSX stream. You can check this out below.

Of course, that isn’t the only gameplay we’re bound to see this weekend. A gameplay demo for the game is set to happen today at 10:30 AM Pacific on the PSX stream.

SoulCalibur VI launches on PlayStation 4, as well as PC, and Xbox One sometime in 2018.

Omen of Sorrow will have a time-limited demo on PlayStation 4 for this weekend only

We’ve seen a fair amount of AOne Game’s Omen of Sorrow thanks to the team letting a number of top players from South America get their hands on it. That said, players outside of the region haven’t really had a chance to try the game out — until now that is.

Alongside this weekend’s PlayStation Experience, Omen of Sorrow will have a free, time limited demo on PlayStation 4. Interested players can download Omen Of Sorrow from the PlayStation Network and play the game from December 8 until December 11.

The demo allows players to try out characters Gabriel and Zafkiel, while playing on a brand new stage. Players will be able to play the game in both online and local multiplayer.

Omen of Sorrow will be released on PlayStation 4 sometime in 2018. In the meantime, here’s a new trailer for the game for PSX.

Get to know the characters and their virtuaroids of Toaru Majutsu no VIRTUAL-ON

With the game being a crossover, Toaru Majutsu no VIRTUAL-ON brings with it a new character element that wasn’t present in previous VIRTUAL-ON titles. Here, the series virtuaroids are now paired up with characters from Dengeki’s Toaru Majutsu no Index franchise.

To help players get familiar which the characters and the virtuaroids they’ll be piloting, Sega has released a new trailer for Toaru Majutsu no VIRTUAL-ON. The trailer below showcases the these characters and their virtuaroids — and also includes a look at some of their Boost Weapon abilities.

It also shows the new “Smart” style that automatically locks the camera onto opponents. Series veterans, however, can use the aptly-named “Veteran” style that leaves the camera manually-controlled like in previous games.

Other things shown in the trailer include the various modes and missions such as boss battles, Arcade Battle, Kill Attack, Arcade Battle, Network mode, and the unique Explosion Code, which turns the game into a sort of mechanized game of rugby. Finally, the trailer also confirms cross-save support between the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita versions.

Toaru Majutsu no VIRTUAL-ON hits PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita — in Japan — on February 15.

New Mortal Kombat documentary “Babality” takes a look at an old rivalry

Rivalries are one of the things that bring an extra layer of hype to competitive fighting games. The personal stakes that they add makes matches between players much more meaningful. One such rivalry is the focus of this new Mortal Kombat documentary, by piemaster.

The documentary, called “Babality” focuses on the rivalry between the Valley Stream Monsters and the Midwest back in Mortal Kombat 9. This rivalry was one of the first major rivalries for that game, and eventually led to a grudge match back in 2011. All these, and more, are the focus of the video below.

Xbox One players: A glitch with disc-based copies of Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite may result in lost saved games

While most people these days play fighting games on PlayStation 4 or PC, more than a few folks do play them on Xbox One. For those Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite players on Microsoft’s console, Capcom has released a warning regarding a possible issue that can cause players to lose their saves, under very specific circumstances.

The issue only affects players who have the physical disc version of Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite. If these players have already updated their game to the latest content patch, and then have to uninstall and reinstall the game for whatever reason, they run the risk of losing their saved game if they play the game without updating it with the latest patch first.

Now while this glitch only affects a small subset of the game’s players, Capcom has deemed it serious enough to post a bulletin about it on Capcom-Unity.  They currently state that there is no known fix for this (not even a patch, for obvious reasons), and warn players to make sure to get the latest update for the game in case they ever have to reinstall it after updating.

Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition’s Arcade Mode features multiple historic ladders, and over 200 endings

One of the biggest features coming to the Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition update is, as the name implies, the long-awaited Arcade Mode. Initially missing from the game — in favor of both a General, and Character-specific Story Modes, the Street Fighter V’s Arcade Mode seems to go above and beyond the usual arcade mode experience.

A new blog post over on Capcom-Unity drops some details regarding Arcade Mode. One of these is something that was previously hinted at during the update’s initial reveal. Specifically, Arcade Mode will feature multiple ladders based on previous games in the Street Fighter franchise.

SFV Arcade Mode layout

The blog post details how these ladders work. Choosing a specific ladder based on a past game will limit which characters are present in that ladder — both for your own selection and as opponents. For example, picking the Street Fighter Alpha ladder will only have characters who appeared in those games. Some exceptions do occur, with new SFV characters like Kolin or Zeku “standing in” for other related characters in certain ladders. Where available, opponents appear in era-appropriate Nostalgia costumes, too.

Speaking of Street Fighter III, Arcade Mode takes a page from that game by giving the players a choice of one of two opponents to fight in each rung of the ladder.

Opponent Select

In addition to this, some ladders will also have a new version of the barrel bonus stage. This time however, there will be a second, AI controlled character who will help keep the barrels coming back to the center of the screen with their moves, helping the player reach 20 barrel target.

Barrel Bonus Stage

Of course, Arcade Mode wouldn’t be the same without endings. It seems that Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition is going to be chock full of individual character endings — over 200 of them, to be precise. How to unlock each ending will be detailed in the game’s Gallery Mode. The conditions themselves run the gamut from simply completing a ladder, to getting a “Perfect” on the bonus stage.

The Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition update hits PC and PlayStation 4 on January 16th, 2018. For those looking to try it out before it hits home, it will be playable at the PlayStation Experience in Anaheim, CA this weekend from Dec. 9-10. In the meantime, here are a few more screenshots of Arcade Mode.
