The Atom is coming to Injustice 2

Tonight, Warner Bros. Games had something special for people tuning into the CW. Aside from details of the “Chasing the Cup” last chance qualifier, they also showed world exclusive footage of the next DLC character for Injustice 2.

Joining the roster of Injustice 2 is none other than the size-changing hero Ray Palmer, a.k.a. the Atom. As expected, his moveset revolves around shrinking down to set up some hard-to-catch special moves, and then growing to deal some massive damage.

After being shown on the CW, the Atom’s trailer was accidentally published early on Nether Realm Studios’ official Injustice 2 YouTube channel. While the trailer was initially taken back down, it’s now up again for everyone to see. Check it out below.

Alvaaron and Buster Gundam coming to Gundam Versus in Japan on October 17

While Gundam Versus just came out in the West, it’s been out for a while now in Japan, with Bandai Namco continually adding new mobile suites as downloadable content. Today, the company announced that two more mobile suits would be coming to the game in Japan: the Alvaaron And Buster Gundam.

Originally hailing from Mobile Suit Gundam oo, the gold-colored GNMS-XCVII Alvaaron makes the transition over to Gundam Versus complete with its pilot Alejandro Corner. Additionally, it seems that the suit can also dock with the GNMA-XCVII Alvatore to transform into a fearsome mobile armor.

The GAT-X103 Buster Gundam, on the other hand, comes from Mobile Suit Gundam SEED where it’s part of the Earth Alliance’s G-Project. This artillery focused Gundam has enough firepower to rival that of a battleship of that era, and is piloted by Dearka Elsman.

Both of these will be available for purchase in Japan on October 17 for only ¥602 plus tax each. No word yet on whether or not these will be made available to the rest of the world. In the meantime, check out some screenshots of both mobile suits in the gallery below.

NEO GEO Battle Coliseum 2 rumored to be in development at SNK

While The King of Fighters series is SNK’s main crossover fighting game series, it also has another series that brings even more franchises together — NEO GEO Battle Coliseum. Released in 2005, NGBC brought together numerous characters from various NEO GEO games — some that wouldn’t necessarily fit within The King of Fighters series — in a tag team fighting game.

Now, if rumors are correct, SNK may be set to revisit NEO GEO Battle Coliseum. In story by KoF World — based on a rumor first posted on our own forums — it has been reported that SNK’s next fighting game project is NEO GEO Battle Coliseum 2. The details are based on a series of photos shared online, which provide some details on the game.

If the rumors are correct, then NEO GEO Battle Coliseum 2 will use cel-shading, similar to Arc System Works’ recent efforts. Certain characters, such as Geese Howard, Nakoruru, and Iori will supposedly have activation supers that will transform them into their alternate incarnations (Nightmare Geese, Rera, and Riot of Blood Iori respectively). Meanwhile, certain other characters such as Ralph, Clark, and Athena will appear wearing costumes based on their original games, instead of their modern KoF designs.

Of course, this is all just a rumor at this point. With the little that has been shown, there’s still some doubt on whether this is a legitimate leak, or just a hoax by an overzealous fan. Stay locked on to Shoryuken for more on this story as it develops.

Cloud of Darkness is Dissidia Final Fantasy’s newest character

As promised, Square Enix have revealed a new character for the arcade version of Dissidia Final Fantasy. Joining the game’s cast of characters is the Cloud of Darkness.

For those not familiar with Final Fantasy history, Cloud of Darkness is not an alternate version of Final Fantasy VII’s hair gel-loving protagonist. Rather, she’s the final boss of the original Final Fantasy III which was not initially released outside of Japan — though a 3D remake for Nintendo DS did eventually follow.

In game, the Cloud of Darkness will be a heavy-type character designed to attract the most attention from the opposing team, trading movement speed in favor of massive range on her spells. You can see her in action in the trailer below.

Cloud of Darkness will be coming with Dissidia Final Fantasy‘s October arcade update. Meanwhile, the home version, Dissidia Final Fantasy NT will hit PlayStation 4 on January 30. 2018.

Shady_K breaks down Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite’s pushblock autoguard & how it can save you from high/low mix-ups

With how oppressive offense can get in Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite many players are likely looking for a way to make defending a bit easier. Well, it seems that the game may have brought an old mechanic back that can help players who’re getting hit by one mix up too many.

In a recent tweet, Long “Shady_K” Tran demonstrated how pushblocking while standing, and then immediately going into crouch, allows players to block both overheads (or mids as the game calls them) and lows at the same time.

The same thing happens when pushblocking while crouching, and then standing.

For veterans of the series, this mechanic seems to works the same way that pushblocking works in Marvel vs. Capcom 2 (as well as in Skullgirls). In that game, pushblocking one way (either low or mid) and then immediately standing or crouching would allow players to block both ways at the same time.

Now, this version of this form of pushblock autoguard in Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite does seem to have some limits. Shady_K has already confirmed that it doesn’t work against multi-hitting hypers.

This means that tag mixups hidden behind these hypers are still quite effective. That said, this presence of this mechanic alone means that Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite players have another defensive tool in their arsenal.

Combos, glitches, and even an infinite abound in our latest Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite video roundup

With the game barely over a week old, players have been doing their best to explore the possibilities that Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite‘s engine brings. For this roundup of videos for the game, we take a look at a number of combos, as well as a glitch, and even an infinite combo for the game.

We start off with FINAL SHOWDOWN, who has put out a combo guide for Ryu. The guide specifically covers Ryu’s hurricane kick loops: both a corner one, and the midscreen one that can carry to the corner.

Next up, rooflemonger has released his video guides for Captain Marvel. The first video focuses on her combos — something she seems to have a lot of — including one for players who’re having trouble pulling off her flight combos.

He follows that up with a video dedicated to some tips and tricks for her.

This video from VuVHO shows a combo for X that does its best to use every weapon in his arsenal, including both his special moves, and unique command normals.

For those looking for straight up damage over swag, Krullexneo has shared a combo for Ryu and Gamora, using the Power Stone, that does 11,000 damage. This is enough to take out characters in the game’s highest health tiers.

Pyro Dex meanwhile focuses on optimal bread-and-butter combos for the team of Dante and Morrigan.

Speaking of Dante, a glitch was recently discovered that turned his Stinger into a mid-hitting — or overhead — move, if it was cancelled out of a crouching light kick. XusesGB demonstrates how to reliably invoke this glitch in the video below.

Finally, it seems that we just can’t have a proper Marvel vs. Capcom game without some form of infinite combo. One was recently discovered for Spider-Man, using the capture state invoked by his Web Ball special, and then using a full screen Reality Stone Surge — and a bit of timing to pull it off. You can see this in action in the tweet below by luk_rakku.

While we don’t know if this’ll be patched out (I mean, it’s a Marvel Vs. game after all), that hasn’t stopped players from trying to find ways to set it up. BigSharkZ has shared a video showing how Zero can help set the infinite up for Spider-Man.

Raiden is officially coming to Injustice 2 next week

While Injustice 2 guest character Raiden has been available on Xbox One via an error since early this week, he’s yet to actually be released officially. Now however, we know when he’ll finally be released officially on all platforms, including PlayStation 4.

During the most recent Watchtower stream, NetherRealm Studios confirmed that Raiden will be officially released for Ultimate Edition owners this coming Tuesday, October 3. Meanwhile, everyone else will be able to play (or purchase) him on Friday, October 6.

Now while this is the first time that an official release date has been given for Raiden, his release was originally listed as October 10 in the Microsoft Store. This has led some to believe that NRS has pushed his release up for all platforms a week early in response to the early release on Xbox One.

Whatever the case may be, it seems that we’ll finally all get to see Earthrealm’s thunder god in action against DC characters next week. In the meantime, here’s a recording of Raiden’s breakdown by 16bit from the Watchtower stream.

ARMS 3.1 patch adds character tweaks and a new playable stage for Versus Mode

ARMS version 3.1 patch is now live on Nintendo Switch. The patch is mostly dedicated to balance, adjusting some of the properties of the existing cast.

One new thing that the patch does bring though is a new stage for versus mode. While the “Sparring Ring” stage technically already existed in the game — it was the stage used during Warm-Up minigame — this is the first time that players can actually chose to fight on the stage.

The “Sparring Ring” can be selected in Versus Mode, and will also be available in Ranked Matches. The stage will feature the song ARMS Official Song (Electro-dance Ver.) as its background music.

Other than this, the patch also addresses some bugs with Hedlock Scramble and 1-on-100 rewards online.

Rise Nation signs Richard Nguyen as their newest Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite player

One of the players who caught a lot of attention at the Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite tournament at SoCal Regionals 2017 was third-place finisher Richard “RichardWins” Nguyen. Richard stunned many players with his impressive Dormammu and Dante play, including a perfect game against Brokentier’s Daniel “Clockw0rk” Maniago, and an exciting losers finals set against Splyce’s Ryan “Filipino Champ” Ramirez.

Now, it seems that his impressive play has gotten Richard a sponsorship. Rise Nation has announced that he will be joining their team as a Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite player.

Rise Nation is no stranger to the world of professional fighting games. Alongside Richard, their current roster includes Martin “Marn” Phan, and Bryant “Smug” Huggins as fighting game players. Both of these also compete in Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite alongside Street Fighter V.

Richard Nguyen started as a Street Fighter IV player before moving on to Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3. While he stopped actively competing around 2014, it seems that he’s making his comeback with Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite. Prior to SCR2017, Richard reportedly trained with Dante using the game’s story demo, making the most of the limited tools available there. It’s this kind of dedication, alongside his stellar play, that likely attracted Rise Nation into signing him.

We here at Shoryuken wish the best to both Richard Nguyen and Rise Nation in this new relationship!
