Spider-Man: Homecoming pre-orders will include the Superior Spider-Man costume for Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite

Here’s some interesting news for any players who prefer watching their Marvel movies on their consoles. Pre-ordering the digital copy of Spider-Man: Homecoming on either PlayStation 4 or Xbox One will give Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite players free access to the “Superior Spider-Man” alternate costume for character.

For those not familiar with the comics, Superior Spider-Man had the titular hero’s body taken over by the mind of Doctor Octopus, who then tried to prove that he could be a “superior” Spider-Man than Peter Parker. Part of this involved wearing a striking new black and red costume — one which the new costume teased at the end of Spider-Man: Homecoming shares some visual cues with (alongside the red and gold “Iron Spider” costume from Civil War comic event).

Access to the costume (as well as a PlayStation 4 theme and avatar, for those who pre-order it on the console) will be given for free to those who pre-order Spider-Man: Homecoming before October 24. For those not interested in pre-ordering (or who’re purchasing a copy of the movie through other means), the costume will also be available for purchase normally via PSN or Xbox Live for $3.99.

Resurrection! New leak hints at the identities of the four upcoming Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite DLC characters

The existence of Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite was first revealed via a series of leaks, as such it’s fitting that, just a week from release, we’re still seeing leaks about the game. This latest one revolves around the remaining 4 unnamed DLC characters, who they are, and when they’ll come out.

According to this new leak, the 4 unnamed DLC characters for Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite are Monster Hunter, Gill, Winter Soldier, and Venom. Of these, Gill is the one that’s most interesting, since he hasn’t been mentioned in any previous leaks. Meanwhile, Venom is being counted as a brand new character owing to the fact that this is his first 3D outing, and that all his moves have been redone from scratch — gaining some new attacks, on top of the ones he retains from the older games.

The leak also goes over some of these characters’ playstyles, including that of the two previously announced characters, Sigma and Black Panther. The latter two are supposedly rushdown characters, with Sigma taking a lot from Mega Man X and X2 and Black Panther borrowing from Sabretooth and X-23. Winter Soldier brings damage via his arsenal of guns and weapons. Gill is supposedly retains his “Resurrection” Super Art from Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike — bringing him back to life once if he has 3 bars of meter, at the cost of not being eligible to be revived by the Soul Stone.

These characters will supposedly come out in groups of two, every month, starting this October. Players will have the option of buying them individually at $5.99 a character, or together for $9.99. The first batch with Sigma and Black Panther supposedly releases on October 3rd.

In addition to these, the leak also claims that boss character Ultron Sigma is an unlockable character. He supposedly becomes playable once players have completed story mode on both difficulty settings.

Additional stages are also supposedly in development. One such stage is “Asteroid S: Throne of the Four Gods,” which combined Magneto’s Asteroid M from the comics with the Shadaloo headquarters.

Other items in the leak include the possibility of free DLC — such as new Infinity Surges and Storms — and additional game modes, as well as how character popularity may have influenced the batch of DLC characters for next year.

Dissidia Final Fantasy NT will remain a PlayStation 4 exclusive, according to Square Enix

Having a third party game be a console exclusive is a rare thing in this day and age. For the most part, a third party title comes out on at least two of the home consoles or, even if it is exclusive, remains so only for a limited amount of time. This makes Dissidia Final Fantasy NT somewhat unique in that Square Enix has confirmed that it will remain a PlayStation 4 exclusive.

Talking to Dualshockers at Gamescom a few weeks back, Dissidia NT producer Ichiro Hazama stated that they are not considering any other platforms at the moment. Instead they want to ensure that their relationship with Sony is honored, and that the current PlayStation 4 build of the game is perfected.

The original arcade version of the game, Dissidia Final Fantasy, runs on a PlayStation 4-based arcade board, so this may not exactly be an unexpected move. That said, other games on similar arcade hardware (e.g. Tekken 7) have made it onto other platforms. This, on top of the PlayStation 4 hardware itself being based on the x86 architecture that powers modern PCs and Microsoft’s Xbox One. However, Square Enix seems focused on refining the game on PlayStation 4 alone. As part of this, director Takeo Kujiraoka has confirmed that the game will also feature PlayStation 4 Pro support.

Capcom showcases Iron Man’s new moves in this Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite mini-trailer

With the official release of Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite just a week away, Capcom Japan has seemingly started releasing small video featurettes going over certain characters moves. The first of these involves Iron Man, and goes over just how different he is from his previous incarnations.

Coming into Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite, Iron Man has received a revamped moveset that’s designed to make him a better zoning character. The biggest changes are the replacement of his “Repulsor Blast” and “Smart Bomb” moves with the “Repulsor Array” and “Smart Mine” moves respectively. These, the moves that have remained, and a few combos are featured in the video below.

Combos, kara throws, & random power-ups: Discoveries from early copies of Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite

Even though its official release is still a week away, more than a few players have gotten access to early copies of Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite through stores breaking street dates. A few of these players took to the internet to stream or share their findings about the game.

Below, you’ll find some interesting bits of tech, as well as more than a few combos from some players who’ve been putting their time in their early copies. The most active of these has to be Splyce’s Filipino Champ, posting videos on Twitter.

One of Champ’s findings is that Haggar actually finds power-ups when using his new barrel special. These will either give him super meter or gem meter when he picks them up. Sadly, it seems that there’s no life-giving turkey to be found under those barrels.

Of course, Champ has also put in the work for Dormammu — the character he was most known for in Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3. First up is this combo that utilizes multiple spells, including his floating bomb super, to keep it going.

Additionally, he’s found a Power Stone combo that uses its damage-boosting Infinity Storm to kill off Zero, one of the lower health characters in the game. This use of the Power Stone seems to be the way to create UMvC3-like touch-of-death combos in the game, and Champ has challenged players to try to find other touch-of-death combos on Zero via the #ZeroMustDie hashtag on Twitter.

Speaking of Power Stone combos, fLoE has also been working on one, this time using a combination of Thanos and Jedah. Now while we don’t know if it’ll make FChamp’s challenge, we do know that it does a decent chunk of damage on Ultron, who presumably has more life than Zero.

TastySteve on the other hand has showcased what Zero can do with a short combo video that he posted on Twitter. The combos here include a corner-to-corner combo that only uses 1 stock of meter, but does about 60% damage on an opponent with full life.

Honzo Gonzo also got himself an early copy of the game and was streaming it. One of the things he was exploring was the “bullet hell” that Morrigan can generate, this time using the Time Stone’s Infinity Storm, exploring how much damage it can do if the opponent gets caught not blocking.

Meanwhile, on Bum’s stream it has been discovered that Thanos has a kara throw involving his command throw. This gives the command throw in question dangerous range.

Finally, BROKENTIER’s Clockw0rk, who was also streaming the game, demonstrated a combo that seems like it will be the go-to bread-and-butter combo for Strider, with some additional damage by Gamora at the end.

Alt Lab demonstrates the latest build of their Smash Stick

Back in April, we ran a story on Alt Lab’s prototype for an arcade stick-style controller for Super Smash Bros. The controller that was shown was still an obvious prototype, built on the case of an old HORI Real Arcade Pro 3, but still demonstrated the concept’s potential: pairing an analog joystick lever with a custom ergonomic button layout.

Now, Alt Lab has released a new video demonstration with a “beta” version of the Smash Stick, now in its own casing. The video once again demonstrates how the controller works, with an analog lever that uses Hall effect sensors for accuracy. This new build however has an revised “Home Row” button layout that’s been adjusted a bit more so as to further prevent hand and wrist injuries.

The latter is arguably the most important feature of the Smash Stick, as Alt Lab’s goal is to provide an alternate means of control without providing the controversial surgical precision that all-button controllers, such as the Smash Box and B0XX, supposedly provide.

Alt Lab’s hope is that the Smash Stick will be made legal, so that it can provide players with wrist and hand injuries a means to play Smash. This is something that hits close to home as Alt Lab founders TheBlackHombre and Broasty both have hand injuries, the former has De Quervain’s Tenosynovitis while the latter suffers from a combination of Carpal Tunnel syndrome and Cubital Tunnel syndrome.

Here’s a first look at Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite’s final boss: Ultron Omega

The Marvel Vs. series is not stranger to giant-sized final bosses. Starting with Apocalypse in X-Men vs. Street Fighter, each game’s main single-player mode has always been punctuated with a fight against a screen-filling monstrosity. Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite continues that tradition — as yesterday, footage of the game’s final boss Ultron Omega surfaced on the net.

While he has “Ultron” in is name, Ultron Omega’s appearance borrows more from his Capcom half — Sigma. Longtime Mega Man X fans will probably get a sense of deja vu when they see the boss, looking much like Sigma’s final form in Mega Man X5.

Sadly, the footage of Ultron Omega was pulled from YouTube, however this was not before people made animated GIF images from it. AvengerAlex has put these together in a video of his own. Now, because of this, some things that were highlighted in the old video may not be as obvious here. First being that the fight takes quite awhile — over 5 minutes in fact, which is a slog in fighting game terms. Additionally, Ultron Omega constantly switches Infinity Stones during the match, and has his own versions of their Infinity Surges and Storms — somewhat similar to Thanos in Marvel Super Heroes. Finally, he can also call in drone, similar to Galactus’ heralds in Marvel vs. Capcom 3.

Control remapping will be coming to Nintendo’s ARMS

If there’s one crucial feature that’s missing from ARMS on the Nintendo Switch, it’s the ability to change controller configuration. When it first shipped, ARMS players were stuck using the default config that the game gave them. That, it seems, will be changing soon.

ARMS‘ official Japanese Twitter account has confirmed that the game’s upcoming version 3.0 update will finally let player change their controller configuration.

While ARMS‘ default controls are perfectly serviceable, the inability to change them is somewhat baffling in a genre where customizable controller configurations have long become a standard. This new update finally fixes that, allowing players to use whatever configuration suits them best.

ChromeAlchemist breaks down Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite’s Mind Stone

One of the unique things that Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite brings to the table are the Infinity Stones (or Infinity Gems, if you’re a comic purist). Originally seen in 1995’s Marvel Super Heroes, the stones in Infinite expand on their original concept by providing not one, but two abilities: an Infinity Surge that can be used freely, and an Infinity Storm that burns up the Infinity gauge.

In a new video, Chrome Alchemist takes a closer look at one of these Stones: the Mind Stone. Here, he takes a look at the properties of both its command grab-esque Infinity Surge, as well as its meter building Infinity Storm, showing off some things that may not be obvious just from watching the gameplay footage that we’ve seen so far.

Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite launches on September 19 for PlayStation 4, XBox One, and PC.
