For Honor is finally getting its own dedicated servers, and more improvements are planned

With an innovative take on weapon-based combat freed from the traditional 2-player confines of the genre, many saw For Honor as the next big thing in fighting games. However, since its launch, the game has effectively dropped off the radar — due in part to a community that wasn’t really happy with the game’s multiple issues.

That said, Ubisoft hasn’t given up on their game, and has made an announcement that should address one of these aforementioned issues — network performance. As part of their “road map” for the future of For Honor, Ubisoft has confirmed that the game will be getting dedicated servers.

Currently, For Honor simply connects players together and has one player serve as the host. This set up isn’t exactly ideal for a game that can have over a dozen players in a single match.

The dedicated servers come alongside a host of other changes, such as a new duel tournament mode, new 4v4 mode, a new “Legendary” armor tier, two new heroes, as well as updates to the combat system. These will be rolled out starting this August, along with test phases for the combat changes and duel tournaments, and will continue all the way to February of 2018.

Kazunoko and Genjimaru demonstrate tactics that Cammy can use against Abigail in Street Fighter V

With Abigail now out for Street Fighter V, people have begun to explore just what this big bruiser can do. In addition to this, people have also begun to find unique tools that can be used against the character, of course.

One such tactic was recently shared by GODSGARDEN’s Kazunoko, demonstrating a throw loop for Cammy that seemingly only works on Abigail. The throw loop in question seems to work due to a combination of Abigail’s size and Cammy’s walk speed. Done correctly, any attempt to stop pressure by hitting a reversal light attack will result in Abigail getting thrown.

In addition to this, Kazunoko also retweeted a video by Genjimaru showing a unique cross-up that Cammy can perform versus Abigail. While the Delta Red operative can normally only cross-up with a jumping short kick, Abigail’s taller hurtbox means that she can cross him up using a jump in roundhouse kick. This allows Cammy to generate some good offensive pressure against Abigail, especially against players who aren’t expecting the cross-up.

BornFree interviews Korea’s Sandbag at Evo 2017

Aside from interviewing established players, Mark “BornFree” Sheridan also took some time to interview some rising stars at Evo 2017. One of these stars is Korea’s Sandbag, the Master rank Akuma player that first made his name by eliminating Poongko and XYZZY during the Road to Japan Cup tournament.

In the interview, BornFree and Sandbag (with the help of Kevin “Burnout” Kim) go over Sandbag’s relative newness to competitive fighting games, having only started playing fighting games two years ago. As part of this, they go over how Sandbag deals with tournament jitters, including some of his rituals — such as not cleaning his stick, as well as pretending that his opponent is just some “online scrub.” Additionally, they also talk about the games he played, starting with The King of Fighters series, then Street Fighter V (his first Capcom game), and possibly playing Tekken in the future.

Shipment of Yatagarasu Attack On Cataclym’s long-delayed physical backer rewards has now started

Back in 2013, Nyu-Media hosted an Indiegogo campaign for Yatagarasu Attack On Cataclysm, an updated version of the original Yatagarasu created by former SNK developers for Steam. While the campaign itself was funded and the game got its release on Steam, some of the physical rewards for the game’s backers have yet to be released — until now, that is.

In an apologetic email sent out to all backers, Nyu-Media has announced that the long delayed physical rewards are now being shipped out to the backers. According to Nyu-Media, around 80% of the physical rewards have already been shipped out from Japan. The remainder of the rewards will be shipped out over the rest of the month.

For anyone who is waiting for their rewards to arrive, Nyu-Media has given the deadline of August 15. Anyone who does not receive their rewards by then is encouraged to get in touch with them via email.

New Dengeki Bunko Fighting Climax title announced — but don’t get too excited just yet

With crossover fighting games becoming the big trend this year, it shouldn’t be surprising that companies are bringing out new installments of their fighting series. Such seems to be the case with Sega’s Dengeki Bunko Fighting Climax franchise.

However, before any fans of the series get too hyped about the announcement, there are a few things that might put a damper on the excitement. First, Dengeki Bunko: Fighting Climax Ignition Mobile Edition is, as the name indicates, a mobile game. Second, the game, developed by 91Act, is for the Chinese market only — set to be released only in China, Hong Kong, and Macau.

For those still curious about the game, however, it’s set to get a proper debut at 91Act’s booth at the ChinaJoy 2017 Expo in Shanghai this weekend. The rest of the fans will have to keep waiting for a proper new arcade or console installment.

Morrigan, Zero, Thor, X, Strider Hiryu, Chun-Li, & Doctor Strange shine in this Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite SDCC footage

In the last batch of Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite videos from Maximilian that we shared, the focus on was newly announced characters Haggar, Nemesis, Frank West, and Gamora. In this next video however, Maximilian puts the spotlight back on some characters who were announced long ago.

The video below shows off some pretty interesting-looking things for characters such as Morrigan, Zero, X, Thor, Strider Hiryu, Chun-Li, and Doctor Strange. We’ve all seen these characters in previous builds and demos for the game- – however, some of the stuff shown here is quite fresh. This includes a demonstration of what Morrigan can do now that she can fly-cancel her air normals on whiff (both in the neutral and in combos); some of the combos that Doctor Strange can do; setups for Strider Hiryu’s Vajra on tag-in; kara-grabs for Thor; Reality Stone extensions for Chun-Li; Zero being Zero; and more.

Catch more of Omen of Sorrow with these videos from the latest build

AOne has been hard at work at their horror-themed fighter, Omen of Sorrow. The developer recently brought the latest public build of the game to Evo 2017 to show it off to fighting game fans.

Hot off of this, they’ve now released more footage of the game from said build. This time, we have new character Zafkiel going up against the vampire Vlad.

In addition to this, ETC Chile, who has been given access to the build, has released a new combo video for the werewolf character Caleb. The video, which you can see below, showcase some combos that use the “Blessed” meter to be extended.

Haggar, Gamora, Spider-Man, Frank West, and Nemesis duke it out: Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite SDCC footage

At the San Diego Comic-Con this past week, a number of characters were revealed for Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite: Frank West, Haggar, Nemesis, and (of course) Spider-Man joined the game’s existing cast.

Now, while the game was playable at the SDCC show floor, and people have been taking photos and videos of it, there’s nothing like actual direct feed footage of the game. That’s exactly what we have here, thanks to Maximilian — who was able to sit down and directly record a number of matches with the newly-revealed characters.

In addition to showing off the newly revealed Frank West, Haggar, Nemesis, and Spider-Man, the footage below also shows some more gameplay of Gamora, who was previously revealed at Evo 2017, along with Jedah.

A good number of the matches here are played by Capcom’s staff, and while it’s not truly optimized, we do see some interesting things — such as loops, tag combos, the properties of Haggar’s new barrel move, and more. Additionally, the direct feed footage also helps showcase how the game’s lighting and shading have improved over past builds.

Check out some Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite footage from the Winner Stays On stream

As some of you may be aware, a build of Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite was playable at a recent edition of Winner Stays On. Traditionally dedicated to Street Fighter V, this switch gave top UK players a chance to try MvC:I instead.

Now, the build shown at WSO was the older build from E3 and CEO; as such, characters shown at Evo 2017 and SDCC 2017 such as Jedah and Gamora were not yet playable in it. That said, it’s still interesting to see how the British players take to the game, in this footage recorded by UM Tyrant.
