Mr. Wizard Wants Your Opinions on Evo 2016’s Lineup

With a shiny announcement trailer now available, Evo 2016 planning is officially in full swing. Naturally, discussion has turned to which games should be included in the main lineup, and heated opinions on all sides are filling social media with discussion.

While specifics have yet to be announced, organizer Joey “Mr. Wizard” Cuellar has taken to Twitter to ask the community for their thoughts on three key issues: should Ultra Street Fighter IV return to Evo alongside newcomer Street Fighter V, how many Smash games deserve a spot on the main stage, and which Smash game you would include should only one be chosen.

Now, we would normally put together polls of our own to gauge public opinion, but Cuellar has made use of Twitter’s spiffy new features to let folks quickly vote on his timeline. You’ll find all three of these polls below along with a fun bonus concerning Evo’s naming structure; feel free to follow up in the comments with an explanation on why you voted the way you did.

Evo 2016 is scheduled for July 15-17 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

‘Cultivation’ Premiere Follows Darryl “Snake Eyez” Lewis from Compton to Las Vegas

Earlier today, the folks over at Red Bull dropped the very first episode of Cultivation: House of Snake Eyez. As the name would suggest, this documentary series aims to follow newly signed fighting game player Darryl “Snake Eyez” Lewis as he travels the world leveling up in Street Fighter.

This first episode opens with a bit of Lewis’ history growing up, from his beginnings in Compton to his first major tournament win at Evo 2010. While much of the fighting game lore may be old hat to frequent readers of our site, the insight this opening installment gives on the Zangief master’s background lays the foundation for a promising series.

New episodes of Cultivation: House of Snake Eyez are scheduled to debut on a weekly basis leading up to Capcom Cup, so stay tuned for more.

Early King of Fighters XIV Gameplay Shows Similarities to King of Fighters XIII

As there have only been two teasers released thus far, we know very little about King of Fighters XIV from a gameplay perspective. Much of our perception has been painted by the title’ less than impressive aesthetics, but a new video from ATRyoSakazaki shows that it may have more in common with its predecessor than we thought.

The demonstration below shows that many of the strings performed in the trailers match similar combos in King of Fighters XIII. While there’s obvious timing differences, this video shows that the upcoming title definitely plays like King of Fighters, even if it doesn’t seem to right off the bat.

Capcom Planning to Run More Street Fighter V Stress Tests Before Next Official Beta

This past weekend, fighting game fans were given a little extra time to play Street Fighter V outside the regularly scheduled beta tests. Much like they did before the first, Capcom opened up an early build of the upcoming game for a short stress test, and new details reveal that the community can look forward to more in the future.

We’ve yet to learn when the third and final beta period will launch, but Capcom has confirmed that they are planning to hold more of these stress tests before then. While these serve as an excellent way for the developers to hammer out remaining issues, they also give the community even more opportunities to learn the intricacies of the game and its systems, so be on the look out for more details.

Street Fighter V is scheduled to launch for PlayStation 4 and PC on February 16.

Bafael Explores the Effectiveness of Street Fighter V’s Light Normals

While Street Fighter IV gave players access to highly damaging combos off light normals, Street Fighter V seeks to change that by limiting their effectiveness in that area. That being said, they are still highly useful in a number of different situations.

In his latest primer video, Bafael explores this concept, describing the ways in which this changes overall gameplay strategy. For most characters, light attacks are their only option for low hit-confirms, and their chaining properties allow players to easily convert blockstrings into combos.

For more of Bafael’s findings, as well as a hefty collection of light normal confirms, be sure to check out the full video below. Please note that, as this information was gleaned from the beta, nothing is confirmed to appear in the final release.

LiangHuBBB Bids Farewell to 2015 with the Year’s Best Funny and Cool Moments

Just as they do at the end of every year, LiangHuBBB has compiled a collection of the very best goofy, great, ridiculous, and amazing moments from fighting titles both new and old that have taken place over the last twelve months. This compilation comes a bit earlier than we’re used to seeing, but there’s been no shortage of footage worthy of the LiangHuBBB name.

Since this is the first year that we’ve had with Mortal Kombat X, you can expect to see plenty of strange happenings from the NetherRealm release (double Brutalities, anyone?) but there’s also a plethora of clips from the Street Fighter V beta, Tekken 7, and Killer Instinct, just to name a few. Those who tuned in to earlier compilations this year will be sure to recognize some favorite clips, including a brief cameo by RZR|Xian’s cat and Evil Geniuses’ Justin Wong teaching the next generation of fighting game players about the effectiveness of zoning.

Did your favorite moment make the cut?
