Rejoice! The fine folks of SNK Playmore have announced that they will be leaving the pachislot business behind to redouble their efforts in the realm of game development.

According to Kotaku, the official press release cites “uncertainty” as their key impetus for ditching the gambling machines. While further details weren’t provided, this move is likely the first push towards the Marvel-like property expansion mentioned by the company’s new Chinese owners after its acquisition.

SNK Playmore is currently focused on releasing King of Fighters XIV, the long-awaited return of their storied fighting franchise, on PlayStation 4 sometime next year. What else this shift in policy holds for their other properties remains to be seen, so stay tuned for more details.

While not the most stacked tournament Capcom Pro Tour has seen, this year’s Canada Cup definitely had the most on the line. As one of the last few outright Capcom Cup qualifiers, players from across the world descended on Toronto, Ontario for one final shot at a spot in the grand finals in December.

As you would guess, this provided more than a few intense moments during the Ultra Street Fighter IV competition, and Capcom has compiled their five favorites into another recap video. Below, you’ll see a bit of nasty Elena play from Evil Geniuses’ Justin Wong, ridiculous comebacks by Tokido of Mad Catz and Razer’s Fuudo, and a whole lot more.

But like many things in life, the show must go on, and the organizers behind the largest fighting game tournament in the world are just about ready to announce their plans for next year’s event.

Today, it was revealed that Evo 2016 has been scheduled for July 15-17, once again bringing its unique brand of hype to Sin City.

Other pertinent information like location, tournament lineup, and more has yet to be released, but those of you planning to attend no matter what can start planning your trip now. See you all there!

While mainly a pop culture convention, Youmacon has spent the last few years putting on excellent fighting game tournaments as well, and Youmacon 2015 is no different.

Over the next couple of days, the Detroit-based event will play host to competition in a wide variety of titles, including Ultra Street Fighter IV, Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3, Mortal Kombat X, Guilty Gear Xrd -SIGN-, BlazBlue: Chronophantasma EXTEND, Super Smash Bros. Melee, and more.

One of the oldest traditions in fighting games is the secret boss that provides an extra challenge to players should they meet certain requirements. Akuma in Super Street Fighter II Turbo, Reptile in Mortal Kombat, the list goes on.

Pokkén Tournament is no different now thanks to a recent update. Gameplay footage recently surfaced of a mysterious boss named Dark Mewtwo that, as the name would suggest, is a super powerful version of the already godlike Pokémon. While the exact steps players need to complete to get him to appear have yet to be nailed down, the video below highlights Mewtwo’s transformation and subsequent battle against Mega Gengar.

As this is a rather new discovery, we’re sure to learn more about Dark Mewtwo as the days go by. Stay tuned for further details.
