Finisherofwar Ups the Ante with Another Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 Doctor Doom Combo Video

In response to the overwhelmingly positive reception for their last Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 video, finisherofwar has released yet another reel featuring Doctor Doom at his most absurd. “Since people thought my last video was stylish,” the master of style starts, “I decided to make a real stylish video.”

And stylish it is.

Everything from expertly-timed aerial Plasma Beams to foot dive flight cancels to L after beautiful, unnecessary L make their way into the video. After the bulk of the combos are complete, finisherofwar shows off what they’re calling “FoW Reps” (for obvious reasons), which offer up an entirely new take on Doom’s corner TAC options.

MCZ|Daigo Umehara and EG|Justin Wong Recreate Iconic Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike Parry at Moment 37 Reloaded

This weekend, Super Arcade hosted Moment 37 Reloaded, a tournament honoring the ten year anniversary of Evo Moment 37, perhaps better known as the Daigo Parry. Everyone who has a background in fighting games can directly quote the commentary in that legendary clip which touches briefly on Daigo’s rare angry play and Justin’s turtle style. Even though the footage is old, the way that the crowd positively explodes when Daigo pulls off the maneuver still gets my blood pumping.

This is what fighting games are all about.

So when Mad Catz’ Daigo Umehara and Evil Genius’ Justin Wong sat down to their first-to-three exhibition in Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike this weekend, it was understandable that everyone wanted to see that legendary moment a second time. The scene was set perfectly: Daigo locked in on Ken and Justin on Chun-Li and they hit the streets of New York City, the same stage in which the original event took place. Of course, James Chen and David “UltraDavid” Graham filled the microphones with their knowledge of the original commentary and the crowd’s energy was absolutely palpable every time Justin filled up a bar of Super meter.

Even though it seemed as though we were all ready, we were not. At around the five minute mark in their set when Daigo actually performed a full parry mid-match and converted it into the same massive punish as a decade prior, the microphones stopped picking up sound. The hype was too much to record.

If you missed the set, you can check out the full video below, but do yourself a favor and at least watch the parry portion. Even if you’ve already seen it. Even if you watched it live. Ten years ago this moment helped to keep the fighting genre alive during its darkest hours. I can only imagine the positive energy that this new moment will bring to the current generation of fighting fans.

For full tournament results as well as additional details surrounding the event, head over to our post covering Moment 37 Reloaded.

Taskmaster Throw Conversions, Frank West Solo Leveling, and More – Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 Roundup

Today, we’ve got a collection of Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 tech that represents some of the most interesting stuff surrounding the title that has surfaced over the last couple of weeks.

To start things off, Honzo Gonzo’s provided a Taskmaster video that demonstrates a couple of ways to convert a corner throw into big damage. Under the right circumstances, this option tops out at over one million damage–pretty impressive for a throw opener.

This tech from BE|Kane Blueriver proves that Frank West can weather the battle with nothing but his trusty camera. The combo shown allows for the shutterbug to solo his way up to level 4–no DHC, THC, TAC, or assists required.

In this clip, Aonien puts Phoenix Wright to work on some solo damage numbers that are certain to turn a few heads. The combo makes use of a corner loop available in Turnabout Mode to produce a devastating series of objections to put down even the heartiest opponents.

Chun-Li has some of the flashiest ground-heavy combos in the game and this string from Eldon Moore is no exception. Through the use of only a single meter, the strongest woman in the world can dish out a whopping 830k damage before the feet stop flying.

Fans of big body characters from Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 will enjoy this combo for Haggar, backed up by Sentinel and Hulk. As BE|Kane Blueriver shows off, this combo dishes out an insane one million damage for the low price of a single bar of meter, while itself building nearly two.

Dungeon Fighter Online Global Version Set to Begin Beta Testing in Early 2015

Last summer, the North American servers for Dungeon Fighter Online were taken down after a run of almost exactly three years. This looked to be the end of an era for the popular online game, at least for many English speaking players. Back in May of this year, Neople, the company behind the title, announced that there would soon be a global version of the game hitting the market. This version doesn’t yet have a concrete release date, but the game’s Facebook page suggests thatbeta testing should begin in March of next year.

If you’ve not had a chance to try Dungeon Fighter Online for yourself, it’s a side-scrolling beat ‘em up that combines RPG elements like class selection and leveling up through a skill point system with fighting game elements like combos and super meters for a truly unique hybrid gaming experience. After selecting a class, players fight off droves of enemies with flashy sword swings and special moves that feel truly satisfying to unleash. The game also offers arenas where you can pit your character against those of other players in battles that are undoubtedly different from a traditional fighting title, but do offer some similar aspects.

Below, you’ll find a video that demonstrates the combo potential of the Avenger class when taking advantage of Metamorphosis mode in a PVP environment. The video begins with some basic meter building and then gives a good idea of how combos unfold within the game once the hits start flowing. While the damage numbers rival Marvel games in size, do note that players have incredible amounts of health, so the numbers only look intimidating.

Also note that the 3rd Strike sounds, as well as Yun spamming palms, have been added for comedic effect.

Possible Chin Infinite Discovered in King of Fighters XIII

Many of the combos in King of Fighters XIII already feel long enough to be “infinite” combos. If a combo can kill an opponent from full health before ending, it may serve the same purpose as an infinite, but it still can’t truly go on forever, sadly.

Luckily for Chin players, a true infinite combo was recently discovered and uploaded to Niconico. Appropriately enough, when performing the new combo, Chin looks to be flailing around in a bit of a frenzy, as if he’s stockpiled too many drinks.

Could this new tech mean that we’ll see even more of the drunken fighter at major tournaments than we already do?

Brawl Karter Celebrates the Release of Super Smash Bros. for Wii U with Final F.L.U.D.D. 3DS Tribute

With today’s release of Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, a great deal of upcoming content will likely involve the console capable of outputting HD images as opposed to Nintendo’s handheld system–though that isn’t to say the 3DS hasn’t served the community well so far.

As a final farewell to the game that got us to this point in Super Smash Bros. 4’s life, Brawl Karter has put together a tribute to the handheld version of the game loaded with that same F.L.U.D.D. goodness we’ve seen from them in the past. You can expect plenty of high quality edge guarding with the water gun as well as other Mario-related antics in this video, so study up and get ready for the next battle.

If you missed Brawl Karter’s previous F.L.U.D.D. compilation or their anti-Little Mac F.L.U.D.D. applications, you can check those out by following the respective links.

Bafael Demonstrates the Benefits of Quick Rising from Focus Crumple in Ultra Street Fighter IV

While it may be old news to some, Ultra Street Fighter IV mechanics aficionado Bafael just released a video demonstrating the lesser-known ability to quick rise after succumbing to a focus crumple. In many cases, this tactic won’t be applicable simply because the crumple state has to complete in order to perform the quick rise, which means that avoiding inevitable damage after, say, a red focus from Yun–who used the mechanic for a combo extension–still won’t be possible.

In the situation that Bafael shows, however, Elena’s gimmicks surrounding landing a crumple in order to quickly back off and slam out her Healing Ultra combo can be stopped. This situation can now even be turned into a big punish to discourage the fleet-footed fighter from trying to reset her health bar.

If you’ve missed previous videos from Bafael, follow this link to get your information fix.

Zissou Breaks Down Doctor Doom’s Best Happy Birthday Options in Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3

Doctor Doom isn’t the best character for dishing out team-shattering damage through Happy Birthday combos in Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3. When his opponents mistime assists, there’s less need to worry, as many of the Latverian’s tools only hit a single target. There are, however, some ways that the dictator can, through some extra effort, make people think twice about throwing out risky assists.

Below, you’ll find a video from Zissou that demonstrates some mid-screen options that Doom has when he finds himself in this sort of situation. These combos combine many of the tools that he brings to other combos, like his fantastic jumping medium, Plasma Beam special, and jumping heavy.

Fortunately, as Zissou demonstrates, a quickly-executed standard corner combo can still do the trick, so Foot Dives aren’t entirely out of the question, but they won’t do much good outside of the corner.

ETC|Mcfly Raises the Bar in High-Execution Mortal Kombat 9 Combo Exhibition

Mcfly of Elite Tournament Chile is back with another Mortal Kombat combo video. This time, the MK combo master captured a multitude of characters doling out insane damage to their opponents, sometimes even topping the 80% mark.

Many of these combos involve setups that are so impractical that they’ll only ever be seen in combo videos, but that doesn’t make them any less entertaining. Look forward to Shang Tsung changing forms mid-combo, Reptile tossing out some assists that work seamlessly to add extra juggles, and a whole lot more.
