BCN|Alioune Shares Applications for Yun’s Summer Vacation Costume Taunt Glitch in Ultra Street Fighter IV

Yesterday, we highlighted a video from MrWaffleSlapper that revealed an interesting (and quite broken) bit of Yun tech revolving around a glitch that occurs when pairing his tenth taunt and summer vacation outfit.

BCN eSports’ Alioune took this concept to the lab and came up with some examples of how it can be practically applied in actual matches. The clip covers a couple of option selects that involve the taunt cancel and then moves on to highlight how the maneuver can be used to escape pressure. It’s got the benefit of the incredible startup time of Yun’s target combo-based standing short, but he no longer has to worry about the button trading; in fact, it’s pretty nice when it does soak up a hit. Why not build a little Ultra meter before dealing some damage?

Thanks to this new tech, it looks like sandals paired with a jogging suit will be the hottest fashion this fall.

Useful Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 Setup Helps Guarantee Hard Tags for Vergil and Spencer Anywhere on Screen

Given the correct positioning, Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3’s Vergil can set up a hard tag that allows another character on his team to come in and finish off his target. Thanks to a new bit of tech from e mc involving Spencer, the half-demon son of Sparda can now pull off this setup anywhere on the screen.

In the footage below, you’ll see e mc execute the setup a couple of times. In each instance, after Spencer lines up the target, Vergil hard tags so that Doctor Strange can come in and clean up with palm loops.

Could Spencer and Vergil be better pals than Spencer and Nova? It’s looking like that may now be the case!

MCZ|Daigo Umehara, BE|Nemo, and -6 Top Recent Ultra Street Fighter IV Arcade Rankings

It’s been some time since we’ve had an update on Ultra Street Fighter IV’s arcade rankings, but fans of Japanese players should be happy to know that Game Fighter recently uploaded footage from Freedom Yokohama Arcade that shows a list of the top players and the characters that they favor.

Nine different characters made it into the top ten this time around, running the spectrum from the overwhelming power of MCZ|Daigo Umehara’s Evil Ryu and BE|Nemo’s Rolento to the thoughtful play exhibited by -6’s Poison and Cantona’s Zangief. While this list may not be an accurate representation of how the game’s balance plays out in every situation, it is a good indicator that the roster is far from dominated by a single character.

It should also be noted that this video captures the rankings as they were on October 31, so it’s very likely they have shifted since then.

The full video has been included below along with a translation of the top ten players.

1. MCZ|Daigo Umehara (Evil Ryu)
2. BE|Nemo (Rolento)
3. -6 (Poison)
4. Cantona (Zangief)
5. Kazunoko (Yun)
6. Shimauta (Ibuki)
7. Vivi (Chun-Li)
8. Wanchantarou (Makoto)
9. Melo (Elena)
10. Dynamite Oshou (Elena)

Channel the Satsui no Hado with These Far Standing Medium Kick Counter-Hit Combos for Ultra Street Fighter IV’s Evil Ryu

Evil Ryu’s far standing medium kick may be one of his best footsie tools in Ultra Street Fighter IV. Not only does it have quick startup and high profile over some low attacks (while simultaneously reaching incredibly far horizontally), it can also lead into the huge damage combos that the darker side of Ryu has become so well known for.

This video from Christian Olivo explores the options that a successful counter-hit affords Evil Ryu. As expected, it opens up a variety of combo paths, which include everything from loops to full animation Ultra follow-ups.

If you’re an Evil Ryu player who hasn’t been giving his far standing forward quite as much attention as it deserves, this is the perfect time to change your ways.

If you’re new to Ultra Street Fighter IV and would find a primer on how the counter-hit mechanic works, follow this link to an in-depth explanation by Bafael.

Mike Ross Faces Off Against fLoE in a Heated Ultra Street Fighter IV Exhibition

Earlier this week as part of a Street Fighter-focused broadcast, the People’s Champion and Twitch’s own Mike “Mike Ross” Ross challenged Ari “fLoE” Weintraub to a first-to-five Ultra Street Fighter IV set for his viewers to enjoy. In a fairly unorthodox move outside of MOBAs, Mike gave fLoE two bans before the matches started–T. Hawk and Bison–and initially planned to stick with Makoto for the duration.

While we can’t see fLoE’s end of things or check out what was going on in the chat at the time of recording through this archived footage, Mike gives the impression that things are currently rather heated between the two. But given that fLoE recently starred in a handful of episodes of Excellent Adventures (and keeping Ross’ own interesting history with exhibitions in mind), this is sure to be a clever show for the viewers.

In any event, if you’re looking for some fun Ultra Street Fighter IV footage, check out the archive below and let us know what you think. You’ll need to skip forward to the 1:40:30 mark to find the aforementioned exhibition.

Watch live video from MikeRoss on Twitch

If the initial set left you hungry for more, the guys fight a few more times near the end of the archived footage, giving fLoE the opportunity to bring out his T. Hawk against a handful of other characters in Ross’ stable.

Upcoming Super Smash Bros. GameCube Controller Sports a Very Lengthy Cord

Fans of the Super Smash Bros. series who spent years honing their skills on GameCube controllers were undoubtedly excited to hear news of Nintendo’s upcoming support of this classic peripheral with the release of Super Smash Bros. for Wii U. The game can be purchased alone or as a bundle with an adapter that allows Game Cube controllers to be plugged into the console. The bundle also includes a Smash-themed pad that comes complete with the standard GameCube layout and the iconic Smash logo in the center.

While the pad looks good, GoNintendo recently shared a short video showing off even more reason for Smash fans to be excited about the rebirth of their favorite input device: the cord is really, really long. Embedded below, you’ll find a short clip that shows off how long the new cord is compared to the one found on a classic GameCube pad. It’s honestly pretty impressive.

Of course, if you’re not certain that you want to spring for the bundle that comes with everything you’ll need to Smash like the good ol’ days, you can pick up the adapter as well as the pads on their own.

Super Smash Bros. for Wii U is scheduled to hit North American consoles on November 21, with European and Japanese releases planned for November 28 and December 6, respectively.

Rocket Raccoon Goes Phoenix Hunting in Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3

While Phoenix has certainly lost some popularity over the years, she’s still a force to be reckoned with in Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 if she plays her cards right. With that in mind, it’s good to be able to counteract her dark form in the event that you find yourself up against it. Punisher of the ANBU Fight Club recently released some Rocket Raccoon technology that will help win this otherwise uphill battle.

The first Phoenix-killing technique revolves around the fact that Rocket’s level three Hyper has a large amount of active frames and can scoop Phoenix out of some common attacks. Punisher goes on to explore other options as well, and while some can be escaped, the video provides plenty of options to cover those attempts as well.

Learn the Rhythm of Elena’s Basics in Ultra Street Fighter IV

Now that you’ve seen players like HORI|sako beast with Elena in tournaments, it’s time to calm things down a little with some practical options for the lithe fighter. It could be said that even Elena’s bread and butter combos are quite stylish themselves, given her reliance on incredibly tight links to accomplish even the most basic strings, but such is the life of Capoeira.

In the video below, BoukenJima shows off hit-confirm options, punish combos, ways to work in Ultra 1, and a lot more. If you’ve been looking for a good time to start dancing around your opponents, now may be the perfect time to do so!
