If you’re a fan of King of Fighters XIII combos that are as flashy as they are damaging, this latest exhibition from Persona might just make your day. Not only does Persona deliver the quality combos that their name has come to be synonymous with, but they do so at a beautiful 60 frames per second.
The video below puts Shen Woo in the spotlight and Persona is able to use the fighter to KO opponents in fairly small strings of blows. There are, however, some combos that finish with alarmingly small hit counters when considering the damage output. For example, near the end of the video, Persona is able to put down Duo Lon in only four hits. Granted, there’s an incredible amount of meter involved, but this does prove that Shen Woo’s damage is nothing to take lightly.
If this is the first time you’ve seen a video from Persona, you might want to sit down if you’re not already.
Only one week remains until Super Smash Bros. for Wii U makes its North American debut. Fans of the series have already had their hands on the 3DS version of the game since early October, but some individuals are understandably looking forward to putting the title on a bigger screen with a higher resolution. There’s just something enticing about a Lucario the size of your head.
If you can’t wait until then to play the newest offering in this long-running series, you’re in luck, because GameStops across America will be running demos of the game beginning tonight at 6 PM. While not every store in the country will be boasting a playable demo of the classic-to-be, there’s likely one within a several mile radius of where you live; there’s one about 3 miles from me and I live in the middle of nowhere.
Super Smash Bros. for Wii U is scheduled to land in North America on November 21. Releases in Europe and Japan will follow on November 28 and December 6, respectively.
At this point in the life of the Street Fighter IV series, it’s fairly common knowledge that Sakura can follow up her EX Tatsu with a hit of some sort to put her opponent in a tough situation to react to. What may be less common knowledge is just how many different ways that Sakura can approach this sort of setup.
As shano shows in the video below, there are dozens of options at the fighter’s disposal, each heavily impacting exactly where Sakura lands once the reset is done. Some of the options put Sakura in a position where she can choose to dash or not dash to pick which side she’s on, some allow her to sail over her opponent and some of the corner setups just look so strange that opponents may very well still be scratching their heads when the new combo begins.
After all the EX Tatsu reset options have been exhausted, shano moves on to explore some tricky situations that Sakura can put her opponents in after a focus crumple. Many of these are the sorts of things that you’d guess she can do after the crumple’s aerial frames begin, but they’re still good to keep in mind to keep your opponents on their toes.

In a recent interview with Video Gamer, Masahiro Sakurai said that he and the team at Nintendo “aren’t working on anything at the moment” when it comes to paid DLC for Super Smash Bros. 4. This applies to both the 3DS version and the upcoming Wii U release of the title. Much of this decision, Sakurai notes, stems from the fact that he doesn’t want players to feel as though the company cut content from an otherwise complete product in order to be able to make some quick cash down the line through something like individual character sales.
Since Super Smash Bros. 4 already sports a massive roster of over 50 characters that span Nintendo’s long life and since many of the intellectual properties associated with the title have been around for so long, it’s understandable that many fan favorite characters couldn’t be included in the game’s final roster.
This is certainly an interesting take on how to handle–or not handle, I suppose–premium DLC. To check out the full interview, follow this link to Video Gamer’s post.
As with most Super Smash Bros. 4 content creators, the folks at Smash and Grab will soon be making the switch from the 3DS version of the game to the Wii U version for higher quality visuals to pair with their already high quality tutorials. The final Smash for 3DS hurrah from the team comes in the form of a character tutorial for Lady Palutena.
As with previous tutorials from Smash and Grab, you can expect to learn the kill thresholds for various moves, effective methods of spiking, various combos and how to approach the neutral game. One of the scarier parts of Lady Palutena is her throw game as her upair can kill from a grab at around 110%, a tactic which the video covers in-depth.
Smash and Grab also made tutorials for a few other members of the cast. To check those out, follow the links below.
Yesterday, we featured some practical happy birthday combos for Doctor Doom that maximize damage against multiple targets. Today, we’ve got a video of the Latverian capping out his damage with some insane level 3 X-Factor combos against single targets. As expected, once the foot dives start flying, things get out of hand pretty quickly. Sometimes the damage even breaks the 2 million point–why not? As video creator Aries says of the combos, “some are practical, some aren’t, but who cares. It’s Marvel [baby].”
Several of these combos are performed against Sentinel and make great use of his towering hurtbox, but a good deal of them work on regular-sized combatants as well. Stick around until the end for a special segment where Sentinel and Taskmaster try their hand at some level 3 X-Factor craziness.
Standard combo videos are a necessary part of spreading fighting game knowledge to other players and serve as an excellent teaching tool for those picking up fresh characters, a fresh game, or just taking their first steps into the genre as a whole. Even though combo videos do a world of good for the community, it’s common for them to include technology that may never see use outside of training mode due to incredible execution ceilings, unlikely setups that get things going or any number of other small factors.
That’s what makes this combo video from Zerms4 and Flying High stand out from the crowd. Each combo that you’re about to witness comes from online matches played over PSN and Xbox Live. While this sort of combo video has certainly been compiled before, it’s a markedly less common style of video than what we’re used to seeing on a daily basis.
The video offers a great variety of characters and features notable players like xWAx Weeberman, FatTreeWizard, CorkyJay and many more. You’ll see M.O.D.O.K. put down an opponent without using any meter after a long-ranged beam hit confirm, you’ll see some particularly dirty resets from Jill and you’ll see plenty of combos that begin from what look to be nothing more than stray hits. And the best part is that every bit of what you’re about to see is 100% viable for use in a real match.
There’s a lot to be said for sticking to your main even when the odds are stacked against you. Sure, it might be smarter to swap over to a pocket shoto, or, in some cases, to just counter-pick your opponent outright, but if your main got you to the top eight, why not let them carry you all the way to victory?
In order to help better prepare fellow Dee Jay players for this sort of situation, Paul “BlaqSkillz” DeCuir shared some tips on how to defeat Fei Long in Ultra Street Fighter IV with the folks at Denkiphile. According to DeCuir, it may be one of the worst matches out there. “On paper it’s an 8-2,” he explains, “but if you space him right, I believe you can make it, at best, a 7-3.”
Unfortunately, those still aren’t exactly the best odds.
As with any matchup, you’ll want to keep Fei outside of his effective range, which will allow Dee Jay to make use of some of his better buttons. This sort of spacing will also tempt Fei players to jump. That will, of course, be a rarity at high levels, but if Dee Jay plays in a calm and calculated manner at this range, they may have no other choice. DeCuir says the last thing that you want to happen is to find yourself in the corner, as this is the point when the match becomes almost impossible to win.
If you’re set on taking your maracas to a Rekka fight, you’ll not want to miss this video.
The last time that we mentioned the version 1.0.4 update for the 3DS version of Super Smash Bros. 4, the community at Smash Boards were hard at work doing side-by-side comparisons of the new version of the game with the pre-patch version. This task was time consuming and understandably tedious to complete, but the team “is confident that they have found nearly all changes from the patch.”
It would be understandable if incredibly small frame data tweaks slipped through their fine-toothed comb, but as you’ll see if you take a look at the patch notes, many of these incredibly small alterations have been discovered within the new version of the game already. This shows just how dedicated the Smash Boards community is.
Among the most notable changes are the return of Directional Influence and a damage buff to, as they call it, “Shulk’s everything” which is a welcome addition to players of the Xenoblade veteran.
We’re now into the third day of Omega Mode and there are no signs of community video footage slowing down. We’ve got a nice spread of character representation in the videos below, so let’s get to it!
Omega Mode was quite kind to Abel, as he received a number of new tools including a shoulder tackle, as well as a new throw. While he did lose his signature move, the Marseilles Roll, he makes up for it through these new specials as well as a number of new link options that allow him to hit confirm combos like never before. As you’ll see in the footage below from spartasan, these tools can lead to some pretty hefty damage numbers.
Fans of classic Abel combos that involve his launcher will be pleased to know that there are still ways to get to that Falling Sky as well.
We’ve got another round of brutal Oni combos today, this time coming from Apolo Loussalier. In addition to combos, Apolo shows off some tricky setups that will allow Oni players plenty of opportunities to turn their hit-confirms into a situation that results in a free Ultra. Some of them are pretty easy to read, but after you’ve been brutalized by the demon for nearly a full combo, getting hit by a reset is realistic. Momentum is a magical thing.
Yesterday, we saw some Scissor Kick loops that Bison can pull off thanks to Omega tweaks and Ricardo Roman has expanded upon that idea here. Roman also explores air-to-air combos available to Dictator thanks to some of his new tools. His command overhead makes for a nice combo extension, it seems, as well as a mix-up tool. As an added bonus, he shows off the Wild Costume for Bison, so if you’ve not seen that in action yet, be sure to check out this footage.
Up next, Draghun57 unmasks Vega’s new technology. As expected, they show off plenty of new combo paths that the vain assassin gained in Omega, but they also demonstrate the new tools in an isolated environment before exploring the options that they allow. It seems that, when de-clawed, Vega can still put up a hell of a fight now thanks to the ability to chain his jabs.
If you’ve been looking for some ideas for where to start with Vega, this video is a great springboard to get things flowing.
Here’s another helping of Guile combos that we received from Zain Jameel. Unlike much of the Guile tech we’ve seen up to this point, Zain spends a good deal of time focusing on the potential of the kick that Guile borrowed from Remy. This command dive kick allows for some interesting juggles and makes for a stylish combo ender in certain situations.
To close things out, we’ve got a quick single-combo video from SpyManSH that demonstrates that Chun-Li’s Omega Mode dive kick affords her an Ultra setup opportunity following one of her new specials. You’ve likely seen Yang perform this sort of thing plenty of times in the past, but that doesn’t change the fact that it looks great when it happens.
