Mewtwo’s Combo Potential is Out of Control in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U

In the most recent round of changes to the Super Smash Bros. for Wii U cast, Mewtwo was lucky enough to be on the receiving end of numerous buffs. Understandably, this improved version of the Psychic Pokémon has drawn a bit of attention. One such bit of attention came in the form of a combo video from Teitoku06142.

As you’ll see in the footage below, the combo makes heavy use of footstools, neutral airs and a mixture of special moves to keep an opponent locked down, seemingly forever. If it isn’t, in fact, a true infinite, it at least seems to last long enough to secure a stock against Mario.

If you’re looking to give this combo a go yourself, the inputs required to pull it off come in a text overlay in the second half of the video.

Learn How to Perform and Apply Edge Cancels in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U

The Smash Bros. series differentiates itself from other fighting titles in a number of ways, but one thing that truly makes the series stand out is the speed at which high-level play takes place. This speed is the product of all sorts of different movement and recovery-based tech applications, which often depend on the specific title in question. But one piece of technology that has stuck around through it all is the edge cancel.

Edge canceling, as the name suggests, uses the edge of a stage or platform to help speed characters through the recovery frames of a given move to help them be able to act more quickly on the other side. Though you can’t edge cancel aerials in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, there are still loads of special moves, as well as air dodges, that do allow this recovery reduction to be applied.

This video from Beefy Smash Doods discusses how edge canceling works before going on to demonstrate all of the moves that can be edge canceled in the most recent entry in the Smash series.

Necalli Takes the Stage in Momochi’s Newest Street Fighter V Basics Video

Officially over the halfway point in the Street Fighter V cast, Evil Geniuses’ Momochi turns his attention to Necalli in this latest basics breakdown.

If you’ve seen the rest of the videos in this series, you probably have a good idea of what to expect: a solid sampling of how to apply special moves and buttons, some simple combos, and a general gameplan to help maximize the featured character’s tools. Since Necalli’s V-Trigger plays such a large role in his approach to any match, Momochi spends plenty of time discussing what the fighter is capable of once his hair breaks from its braids and begins to glow.

If Momochi’s character selection pattern holds true moving forward, Vega players can expect to pick up some useful tips in the not-too-distant future.

See a Sonic Hurricane in Action in this Street Fighter V Clip

We caught our first (almost) full glimpse of Guile today in the form of some screenshots showing him waving around his Sonic Booms and Flash Kicks like he may, at one point, have owned the place, but screenshots can only do so much. Moments ago, CapcomChannel uploaded a quick clip of the returning fighter’s Critical Art that offers a much needed look at how so much Boom looks in motion.

But that isn’t all the clip reveals; on top of a fantastic light show, we can clearly see that Guile sports three bars of V-Meter. We can also see, through the brief backward step he takes before the Sonic Hurricane activates, that his Critical Art may involve a more traditional charge input.

Does Guile seem worthy of his sunglasses so far? Let us know what you think in the comments.

Wakeup Jabs, Creating Setups and More Fill Viscant’s Most Recent “Hit the Ground Running”

Anyone who has strolled into the Shadowloo Base or toured the New Zealand countryside looking for a brawl in Street Fighter V has encountered the wakeup jab. The wakeup jab–or short, depending on the character in question–is a great defensive answer to many offensive options available in the game, but it’s not the perfect answer. In his most recent “Hit the Ground Running” article over at BROKENTIER, Jay “Viscant” Snyder discusses these quick buttons, what makes them good, and how to work around them.

In this act, Viscant demonstrates just how difficult creating the Perfect Setup can be, especially considering that “the game was designed to reduce the role of setplay and okizeme.” On top of Capcom’s deliberate efforts to reduce the effectiveness of setplay, there’s the tight timing required for each button press used to kill frames, there’s the guessing game often involved with how the opponent will tech to recover, and so on. Sometimes, if the setup in question beats a wakeup jab, that may be the only thing it beats, which calls into question whether or not the setup is worth using (or learning) at all.

If you’re looking to break new ground when it comes to proper okizeme in Street Fighter V, you’ll definitely want to check out Viscant’s post in full by following the link below. Do note that it is positively laden with frame data talk; this is a good thing, but some of us are more fond of numbers than others.

My Smash Corner Reveals More Bidou Strategies in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U

One recent topic that has the Super Smash Bros. for Wii U community talking nearly as much as the state of Bayonetta’s tournament legality is the Bidou controller layout. This button configuration offers its users access to a plethora of typically difficult techniques by taking advantage of the way the game reads certain inputs when the Special Move button is held down.

As with anything that stands to change the way we look at a game’s input method, new applications for this technology have continued to surface. These applications, including item drop ledge trumping, frame-perfect fast falls from platforms, and others take the stage in My Smash Corner’s latest video.

For a more complete look at what Bidou has to offer, check out My Smash Corner’s original video explaining the concept. Curious if learning a new layout is worth your time? Team SoloMid’s ZeRo has some opinions on the topic that you may find useful.

ESAM Discusses More Pikachu Matchups in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U

Last week, Panda Global’s ESAM created a matchup chart for Pikachu in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U. Instead of leaving onlookers wondering what makes each match favor or, rarely, not favor the flagship Pokémon, ESAM decided to start a series of videos to explain his reasoning.

His three most recent videos continue moving up the chart, starting with the fights ESAM feels are mostly even, and continuing on to those which see Pikachu at a fairly large advantage. Whether you’re a Pikachu player looking for tips on how to topple opponents, or a Villager player looking to avoid some unwanted shock therapy, you should be sure to check out these videos.

If you missed out on the brief video discussing Pikachu’s less-than-favorable matchups, you can find it here.
