Sajam Explores Killer Instinct Season 3’s Stagger State

The stagger mechanic came to Killer Instinct late in Season 2 when Shadow Jago changed into more than just a clone character, but it wasn’t until the third season’s official launch that the mechanic saw use outside of the possessed fighter. Now that Season 3 is well underway, a handful of characters have access to the ability to pummel their opponents with these crippling blows which offer massive hit stun for combo openings and extensions that don’t necessarily look possible.

In his latest Killer Instinct Season 3 tutorial, Sajam takes a moment to discuss the basics of this new mechanic. Naturally, he uses Tusk to explore the heavy hits, as stagger is an integral part of the viking’s approach to any match.

Capcom Offers a Closer Look at April Update, Guile’s Abilities

By now, you’ve certainly seen the round of Guile screenshots that leaked earlier this morning. Shortly after the internet became inundated with chatter about the upcoming character, Capcom dropped a ton of information surrounding him in the form of an official post over at Capcom-Unity.

As these posts tend to go, we learned a great deal about what Guile will be capable of in Street Fighter V, while also picking up some additional information regarding the upcoming April update. We’ve summarized the information below.

V-Skill: Sonic Blade

GuileSkill1
GuileSkill2

Guile channels his inner Boom to create a Sonic Blade, which is a projectile that stays in place on the stage and allows for pressure against downed opponents. This stationary projectile can also “juice up his Sonic Booms,” adding more durability to help out in a zoning war.

V-Trigger: Solid Puncher

GuileTrigger1

Guile becomes capable of chucking constant Sonic Booms. This barrage of blasts can include Booms of many speeds, as each button releases a blast with different momentum. Under the right circumstances, these projectiles can be used to extend combos, or to keep opponents pinned to the corner.

We do not currently have details surrounding the animation associated with Guile’s V-Trigger activation, but we hope it involves him adjusting his shades, or equipping them if they’ve not yet found his nose.

Critical Art: Sonic Hurricane

GuileCriticalArt
It comes as little surprise that this projectile-laden kit also comes equipped with a projectile-based Critical Art. This massive Sonic Boom gains extra range and a damage boost while Guile is under the effects of his V-Trigger.

Air Force Base Stage

GuileStage

The first DLC stage to make its way to Street Fighter V will be Guile’s iconic battleground from Street Fighter II. This stage will be available in the in-game shop for 70,000 Fight Money, while Season Pass holders will receive the fight locale for free.

Additional Updates

But there’s more to this update than just a roster expansion and a flashy new stage on which to kick. Capcom was excited to announce the upcoming implementation of an enhanced anti-rage quit system as well. Players targeted for leaving too many matches early will be locked out of matchmaking for an undisclosed period of time, which will come alongside an in-game message notifying the player that they’ve been caught in the act. They plan to add more functionality to this system as time goes on.

And it just wouldn’t be an update to a modern fighting title without online play improvements. According to Capcom, these improvements will come in the form of easier Battle Lounge creation and connectivity, as well as looser restrictions when it comes to finding opponents to fight in the first place. This is specifically to help aid folks in “Europe and other parts of the world” who have experienced issues locating matches.

Guile Sonic Booms His Way on to the Scene in These Street Fighter V Screens

UPDATE: Capcom just made an official announcement regarding the upcoming April update, including a full breakdown of what Guile can do in a fight. You can find that information over on Capcom-Unity now. We’ll be writing it up as soon as the traffic slows down enough for the page to load. Feels like some 90s internet over here right now, man. How appropriate.

Our original article remains intact below.

Before Alex threw his first official post-release Flash Chop, plenty of players had already turned their attention to the next upcoming character on the Street Fighter V roster: Guile. Reports show that earlier today, the folks at Capcom uploaded a handful of screenshots showing off this next DLC fighter to their Facebook page before promptly removing them. While we can’t confirm or deny that ourselves, we can say that some folks with quick fingers were able to snag the stills before they were taken down.

The screenshots, which you can find below, show the man known for sweet hair, sweeter shades, and Sonic Booms doing what he does best. You’ll also likely notice that Guile’s iconic stage from Street Fighter II makes an appearance as well.

Master Alex’s Frame Trap and Mixup Options in Street Fighter V

Street Fighter V’s Alex may seem little more than a headband wearing powerhouse who struts into battle waving his big buttons and bigger damage around without a care in the world, but he’s also capable of taking a more calculated, devious approach to the match when his simpler tools just aren’t getting the job done.

To highlight the more technical side of this returning fighter, the folks at GamersGrid TV, with help from host Ricardo “Mono” Roman, take the time to explore some of Alex’s frame trap and mixup options in their latest Shadowloo Bootcamp segments.

If you’re looking for more Alex technology, perhaps even an intro to his basics, you can find a host of information on the GamersGrid TV YouTube channel.

Mad Catz No Longer Sponsoring Capcom Pro Tour Event at Tokyo Game Show

Mad Catz has had a rough year. On top of cutting 37% of their staff back in February, parting ways with the illustrious Mark “MarkMan” Julio soon thereafter, and (officially) dropping Tokido and Mago from their team of sponsored players, things didn’t seem like they could get much worse.

But things, sadly, aren’t always what they seem. The Mad Catz team took to Twitter yesterday to announce that they will be pulling their sponsorship for the upcoming Tokyo Game Show tournament, one of the many stops on this year’s Capcom Pro Tour.

Those concerned about what this means for the Tokyo Game Show itself need not worry, as representatives from Capcom were quick to note that the tournament is still very much a go, even without the support of the much loved peripheral maker. While many details surrounding the event remain unknown, we can find comfort in the fact that the tournament will still happen.

Tokyo Game Show is set to take place September 15.
