James Chen and UltraDavid Discuss Capcom Cup’s World Warriors in New Series

James Chen and David “UltraDavid” Graham recently teamed up with the folks at Capcom to create a series of videos dedicated to the upcoming Capcom Cup tournament. The hype surrounding this event is palpable; not only does it bring together thirty-two of the best Ultra Street Fighter IV players in the world for a shot at big payouts, it may also prove to be one of the game’s last major events thanks to Street Fighter V’s release early next year. This means that whoever walks away victorious stands to go down in history as the best Street Fighter IV player in the world while the game was still in its prime–quite a title to claim.

The series, World Warriors of Capcom Cup, kicked off earlier today with James and David discussing general information surrounding the tournament. Future episodes will break down the qualified players individually, with videos dedicated to their background, fighting styles, and plenty more.

If you’re looking to brush up on all things Capcom Cup before the event takes place on December 6, you’ll not want to miss this series.

Stay Alive Longer in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U Through Creative Hurtbox Use

The first key to victory in any fighting game is surviving longer than your opponent. That’s a given. But when the game in question doesn’t use traditional health bars, extending one’s life gets a little more complicated than, say, avoiding a little bit of chip damage. In their most recent video, the Beefy Smash Doods discuss the concepts of momentum canceling and what they call “hurtbox shifting” to keep Super Smash Bros. for Wii U players swinging fists at each other for as long as possible.

How much longer, exactly? Well, we’re typically talking just a few additional percentage points, but players looking to up their game in every way possible won’t want to let this information pass them by.

If you’re looking for tips to surviving some of the most deadly attacks in the game, Beefy Smash Doods made a video on that topic as well.

Integra Burns Up Ultra Street Fighter IV in This Week’s Olympic Gaming Spotlight

Olympic Gaming is back with more Ultra Street Fighter IV action, this week turning their attention to Integra’s Ken. In the video, Mr. Masters faces off against a horde of top online competition including WFX|801 Strider and Tampa Bison.

You can learn more about the featured player in the video’s description, which, in this case, points out that Integra is not part of Team PIE, and the name that appears in the highlighted footage was created simply to troll Smug. If you stick around to the end of the video, you’ll get to see Smug’s priceless reaction to the name through footage taken from one of his streams.

Make a Lagless Return to the Stage in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U

If you can’t make it back to the stage in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, you’re not going to be taking home many victories. And simply crossing the chasm between blast zone and ledge then wrapping a couple of fingers around the lip of the stage doesn’t mean you’re home free.

So what do you do now? Well, plenty of things: roll, attack, jump, enter the drop zone to bait, you name it. My Smash Corner recently released a video detailing yet another option for those hanging from the ledge, and it’s lag-free.

Just as any recovery option, this method of making your way back to the battlefield isn’t something that should be used every time. Unlike some options available from the dangling position, this maneuver affords its users no invulnerability. That doesn’t mean that it’s useless, though. If you’ve got someone standing by with shields up waiting to slap you down when you decide to recover, using this technique followed by a grab may be the best way to go.

As most Smash-related tactics tend to go, this doesn’t work for every character, nor every stage, but it’s absolutely worth arming yourself with if your character is among the lucky few who can take advantage of it.

Persona Provides a Double Dose of King of Fighters XIII Combo Action

If you’re into combos that push the limits of human dexterity while testing the patience of those on the receiving end, you’re likely familiar with Persona’s work in King of Fighters XIII. Their current quest for combo completion leads us to two revised videos, one for Joe Higashi and a second for Clark Still.

Some of these combos impress with their raw damage, others with their sheer length, and some with their beauty. Seriously. I never thought I’d describe anything involving Clark as beautiful, but here we are.

Anyway, check out the videos below and, if you’re feeling brave, crazy, or just need an excellent hand workout, hit up their descriptions for full combo notation.

Crush Street Fighter V Opponents with These Cammy Combos

The folks at TeaMandem are back with another Street Fighter V combo primer, this time breaking apart the various combo paths of Cammy White. As with the first video in this beta combo primer series, you’ll find nothing but practical, every-match options here.

Practicality, in this case, doesn’t mean that the featured combos lack damage–quite the opposite. Sure, the footage opens with some of the most basic options that the Killer Bee has at her disposal, but by video’s end, she’s burning through every bit of available meter to make her opponents think twice about letting her land a crush counter.

The team plans to tackle Rainbow Mika next, so keep an eye out for that.

Guilty Gear Crash Course Explores Starters in Guilty Gear Xrd -SIGN-

Novril and the Chemical Lovers team are back with another episode of Guilty Gear Crash Course. This week’s installment expands upon the last two videos by offering a proper beginning point for both combos and pressure through starter attacks.

The team covers how to go about choosing a starter and explains the differences between the various types. Viewers will learn things like the rewards granted on hit as opposed to on block for certain types of starter attacks, as well as the importance of mixing up these options intelligently to get damage while also maintaining pressure.

If you’re looking to up your Guilty Gear Xrd -SIGN- game, or have a friend who is, be sure check out the rest of this video series.

Throw Down with Donkey Kong in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U

Throws in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U are one of the best ways for some characters to tack on guaranteed (or, at least nearly guaranteed) damage. Just like anything else in the game, directional influence plays a large part in exactly how powerful a given follow-up option will be, but not all throws were created equally. Take Donkey Kong’s cargo throw, for example: the amount of DI possible after the move is actually fairly small, thus keeping targets well within the range of numerous aerial attacks that DK can unleash.

In their latest video My Smash Corner covers optimal follow-up options for this throw and the best percentage ranges for each against the game’s numerous weight classes. If you’re looking to get your Donkey Kong back to his barrel-throwing roots, give these strategies a whirl.
