Beefy Smash Doods Share Some Fun Super Smash Bros. for Wii U Facts

Running into oddities from time to time is just a part of gaming. No matter how such an oddity decides to present itself, we’ve all (hopefully) learned to take them in stride, even if that wonky hitbox cost us an important match. Beefy Smash Doods recently compiled a collection of strange occurrences and other interesting tidbits in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U that may sometimes play a minor part in determining the victor of a match, but usually go unnoticed.

Some of these things come up more often than others, like how a character’s health percentage ties in to the length of their invulnerability frames when grabbing a ledge, whereas something like Little Mac showing some wear and tear as the fight progresses won’t be causing any losses any time soon.

Catch Up on the Most Recent Changes to Super Smash Bros. for Wii U

Although the 1.1.0 update to Super Smash Bros. for Wii U went live some time ago, catching all the minute changes that Nintendo throws into the game can be a time consuming task. Luckily, Vitamin ZK took the time to wade through the seas of sameness to find the few tweaks that were made. In the videos below, you’ll see side-by-side comparisons of the 1.0.9 and 1.1.0 versions of altered attacks and abilities.

The changes include minor frame adjustments to things like Marth and Lucina’s landing recovery after a handful of aerial attacks as well as their Dolphin Slash special, and some slight knockback changes for Dr. Mario, among other things. A good deal of the changes were slight, but the patch did include some larger tweaks, too, like the removal of Pikachu’s ability to create infinite combos through the use of custom moves.

To get a better glimpse at exactly what changed, be sure to check out the videos below. The characters who received a larger number of changes have been given their own videos, while the rest received a place in the compilation videos.

Newcomer Rashid Joins Street Fighter V Cast

If you’ve been keeping up with Street Fighter V news this week, you’ve certainly seen Yoshinori Ono’s collection of teaser screenshots for the newest addition to the game’s roster. Since the screens went live, we’ve all been trying to determine if those tornadoes belong to a certain Final Fight vet. We can now officially lay that question to rest: they don’t.

Just moments ago, the Blanka-toting Capcom rep revealed that Rashid will be joining the cast. While information surrounding the fighter is limited, we do have a trailer available for viewing.

Smash-like Rivals of Aether to See Steam Early Access Release on September 22

We’ve seen a handful of indie fighting games release over the last couple of years, each offering a slightly different take on the genre that we’ve all come to love. Divekick placed a strong focus on space control and timing; Nidhogg stripped away the need for health bars and offered a refreshing twist on the standard fighting game win condition; and just over the horizon looms Rivals of Aether, which promises to bring its take on Smash-style fighting to a wider audience.

Developed by a team led by Dan Fornace–a name you may recognize from the PC “demake” of Smash, appropriately dubbed Super Smash Land–Rivals of Aehter pits players against each other in one-on-one or two-on-two battles that immediately conjure up memories of Smash titles both past and present. These memories spring forth from the percentage-based health system, the advanced movement options, and even some of the attacks that the fighters bring to the battle.

The developers announced earlier this week that the game will be entering early access on Steam in just shy of two weeks, allowing those who purchase an early copy to give the game a try themselves. If this sounds like something that you’d be interested in giving a shot, be sure to head over to the game’s official Steam page on September 22 to get in on the action!

To get a good idea of the sort of gameplay experience that you can expect from Rivals of Aether, you can check out replays from the invitational tournament that took place at Evo 2015 earlier this year or the early access trailer we’ve included below.

Get to Know Street Fighter V’s Roster with These Intros, Win Poses, and Quotes

Avid fighting game players naturally spend more time focusing on what takes place once the timer starts ticking than the events that bookend the battle. Nevertheless, some of the sequences that sandwich the flurry of fists and feet have become so enmeshed in our society that even non-fighting gamers will catch the reference when told to go home and be a family man.

If you’ve been wondering what the combatants of Street Fighter V have to say, or want to see the pose they strike after slapping down their opponents, the video below from ADAPT Chance will be right up your alley. Since this footage does come from beta events, you’ll notice that not every added character has been included, but there’s still plenty to see.

It’s hard to say if Street Fighter V will offer something as quotable as Guile’s famous line, but the potential definitely exists. Let us know which are your current favorites.

Combofiend Shows Off His R. Mika, Necalli, and More in Street Fighter V

Thanks to the folks at Khaos Gaming, we’ve had plenty of opportunities to see Street Fighter V action unfold from the comfort of our homes. While the footage they’ve offered is often good–great in fact–many of the players taking a stab at the game haven’t had much time to get familiar with characters or features that the game provides.

With that in mind, we decided to isolate some footage from the massive reams of Khaos Gaming film that features a man who certainly knows his way around the soon-to-be-modern Hadouken: Capcom’s Peter “Combofiend” Rosas. Combine his extensive competitive background with his work as Street Fighter V’s associate producer, and it makes sense that Rosas would be one of the players most familiar with the forthcoming title. He confirms this theory time and again in the collection of videos below, and does so across most of the available cast.

Grab Your Anchors, It’s Time to Master More May Okizeme Tricks in Guilty Gear Xrd -SIGN-

There’s nothing more frustrating than putting in the work to set up an okizeme situation, hitting the timing perfectly, and then having your downed opponent wake up and stuff the attempt outright–well, okay, maybe being on the receiving end of the oki itself is a little bit more frustrating, but still.

2ndState, who recently brought us a fantastic guide to keeping the pressure high on knocked down opponents with May in GUilty Gear Xrd -SIGN-, has released a companion video that covers how to deal with opponents who would rather escape these situations with offense than defense. Check it out below and see what you can add to your own May game.

LiangHuBBB’s Newest ‘Funny and Cool Moments’ is Loaded with Street Fighter V Footage

It wasn’t long ago that we saw the 90th episode of LiangHuBBB’s Funny and Cool moments go live, but there’s just too much going on in the world of fighting games right now to allow the compilation mastermind any sort of rest. That said, the majority of the footage in this latest addition to the running series, as you might expect, comes from Street Fighter V, but plenty of other games make the cut as well.

If you’ve seen some of LiangHuBBB’s previous compilations, you’ve likely got a good idea of the sort of things to expect: glitches, bugs, combos that shouldn’t exist outside of training mode working in actual matches, and plenty more. There’s even a special appearance from RZR|Xian’s cat.

Pick Up Some Useful Jamming Bomb Setups in Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3

If you’ve been looking for the best way to go about slapping opponents with M.O.D.O.K.’s Jamming Bombs, you won’t want to miss Dustin of HitBox Arcade’s newest Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 video. All of these confirms involve nothing but a floating head and his many tools, so they’ll work for any team.

Since the combos do end with a Jamming Bomb, you won’t see massive damage numbers, but the meter gain is hard to ignore. Tack on the trouble that these bombs cause, and landing that next hit-confirm may be much easier than originally expected, especially if your opponent doesn’t often tangle with giant floating heads.

Dustin suggests that using these Jamming Bomb setups is a wise decision “because we need to snipe more anchors and battery meter,” and these combos are an excellent start to doing just that.
