Saturday Morning Scrublords Throw Down in KOF: Maximum Impact 2

The Super Best Friends have returned with another episode of Saturday Morning Scrublords, this time tackling KOF: Maximum Impact 2, or, as the North American localization was dubbed, King of Fighters 2006.

While the opening cutscene rolls, Woolie points out that “this game is SNK fan service beyond anything else,” and it’s easy to see just how correct he is once they start selecting characters. The game sports a massive cast and an even more massive wardrobe for them to flaunt as they throw fists at each other. Some of the costumes are normal enough while others border on disturbing. You’ll get to check out some of each when the guys start fighting each other.

Beyond standard versus matches, Maximum Impact 2 sports a handful of “extra missions,” which include options like fighting against a parked car a la Street Fighter, a confusing battle with a Metal Slug, and the completely ridiculous rumble with an oncoming steamroller, which culminates in the piece of heavy equipment being pushed over a cliff when successfully completed.

If you missed this era in the King of Fighters series, or just want to watch the crew’s NSFW antics, be sure to check out the video below.

ZeRo Discusses the Art of Stage Selection in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U

Stage selection has always been an important part of the Super Smash Bros. series, and the latest iteration on Wii U is no exception. There’s a lot that goes into picking the right stage, too, and knowing all of this information will help players comfortable with always heading to Smashville or Final Destination explore the other options available.

In the video below, ZeRo discusses everything that goes into picking the right stage at length. He breaks down why characters like Captain Falcon enjoy platforms, what sort of blast zone distances you can expect on each stage, and which characters excel on which stages.

Anyone serious about competitive Smash should definitely check out this footage so you can make proper decisions and hopefully keep those Diddy players away from Halberd.

Harness the Power of Greninja in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U

Any time a character in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U becomes too powerful, it’s time to slap Greninja with another nerf–or so the joke goes. While this sneaky Pokémon has unfortunately fallen victim to the nerf bat numerous times since the game’s release, it’s still quite viable in the right hands.

If you count yourself among those still sticking to this slippery fighter, you’ll be pleased to see the embedded video below. You’ll see that Greninja’s combo game is certainly no joke, as it can turn all sorts of stray hits into big damage or a kill under the right conditions.

By Odin’s Beard! New TAC Infinite Options Uncovered for Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3’s Thor

TAC infinite combos have been a part of Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 for quite some time now, and most of the cast has at least some access to this health-destroying strategy.

Before now, Thor himself had a handful of infinite options, but those were confined to the corner of the stage. Thanks to this discovery from e mc, however, the Asgardian is now equipped with some new ways to break out the infinite tactic anywhere on the screen.

Additionally, the video includes a few new ways to approach the Thunder God’s previously discovered corner TACs, meaning wielders of Mjolnir will have plenty to try the next time they hit up the Danger Room.

To check out some of Thor’s other TAC options, head over to our Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom wiki page.

Make the Most of Trade Situations with Cody in Ultra Street Fighter IV

Making the most of trade situations is something that plenty of fighting game players are familiar with. Doing so requires knowledge of a handful of circumstances that may not come up all that often, so turning those stray hits into something meaningful can be difficult. Even so, it’s a crucial skill to pick up on the long road to character mastery.

Below, we’ve included a video from GroundedSF that explores the various ways that Cody can turn a trade situation with his Super into a fully-connected Ultra. Again, this isn’t the sort of thing that will come up all that often, but it’s a good tool to have in your back pocket for those rare moments when it does.

Learn How to Apply and Stop Pressure in Mortal Kombat X

Bafael and Cross Counter TV are back with another installment of their series dedicated to the ins and outs of Mortal Kombat X. Today’s episode focuses on starting and maintaining pressure as well as putting an end to it.

Since these are the topics at hand, Bafael spends a good deal of time explaining the situations that can occur after a safe blockstring ends. Since there are many such strings in the game, this set of circumstances should be playing out several times per match.

The important things to take away from this are figuring out your safe strings, your fastest normals, and what sorts of damage situations they can lead into. Additionally, knowing the options your character has to cover back dashes and, of course, what armored attacks you can throw at an overzealous attacker to get them to back off are equally important.

Witness the Power of Momentum in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U

The guys at Rush Hour Smash teamed up with Azurin and Tweek to bring us a Super Smash Bros. for Wii U combo video that they’re calling “Momentum.” Just a few seconds of this footage and its easy to see why the chosen title is appropriate: once the attacks start coming, they don’t stop until the poor soul on the receiving end hits a blast zone.

In the video, Tweek takes control of a handful of characters, including Ganondorf, and Captain Falcon but most of all giving attention to Bowser’s heir. You can expect intense combo action, pinpoint cannonball accuracy, and some of the cleanest kills with Junior’s Up B that you’ll find anywhere.

A Doctor, a Demon, and a Diabolical Floating Head Team Up in This Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 Combo Video

We’ve seen plenty of M.O.D.O.K. technology in recent months thanks to Hitbox Arcade’s Dustin, but he’s not the only one spending time in Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3’s danger room with the floating acronym. As MythicVerbosity shows in the footage below, they’ve also been labbing it up with this villain and paired him with a couple of heavy hitters to make sure everything runs smoothly.

MythicVerbosity focuses on optimized combos based off a variety of openers that employ a handful of different Dante and Doctor Strange assists to keep the hits flowing. As you’ll soon see, many of these combos generate an absurd amount of meter, but they can also spend it to confirm kills as well.

If you’re in the market for some new friends for your floating head, be sure to give this video a look.

Mortal Kombat X Mobile Now Available on Android Devices

Mortal Kombat X Mobile Johnny Cage Scorpion SMALL

Earlier this month, Mortal Kombat X Mobile hit iOS devices and provided fans with a way to pass the time until the main game officially launched a week later. With the release of a version for Apple devices came news that the the title would arrive on Android “soon,” but we weren’t given an exact idea as to just how soon “soon” would be.

It seems that “soon” has finally come, as the wildly popular companion app to the console and PC title can currently be downloaded through Google Play. This means that Android users are now able to fight it out and get their Fatality fix when away from home, all while working toward unlocking some of the most ridiculous alternate costumes in Mortal Kombat history.

Once you download your copy of the mobile game, be sure to link it to your existing WB Play account in order to take full advantage of the app’s features.

Mortal Kombat X Jason Voorhees Roundup feat. Tips from REO, X-Ray Combos, and More

The Mortal Kombat X community got their hands on the game’s first post-launch character yesterday and it seems like everyone has been hitting the lab to find out the best ways to stylishly end the lives of campers with Jason Voorhees. But before we get into combos with the horror movie vet, let’s get things rolling with some basic character breakdowns so everyone knows which end of the machete to hold.

First up, SupermanSajam discusses everything that you need to know before strapping on your hockey mask. As with previous character breakdowns, this video covers notable normals, the differences between the fighter’s variations, and a general plan of approach that players should follow in order to be certain no one will make it out alive.

The second character breakdown comes from REO and Team Spooky’s Arturo Sanchez, who take a quick look at Jason’s combo options across each of his variations. REO covers some basic combos for each variant, including an important Slasher option that offers a side swap, some nearly full-screen carry combos for Relentless, and ways to safely apply the fighter’s healing buff in Unstoppable.

For the first dedicated combo video, we’ve got a quick selection of high-damage options from Spherax. These come from the fighter’s Unstoppable variant and often assume that his damage buff has been previously applied, but you can find out how to safely do that in the next video.

Nico Montano has delivered an incredible amount of Goro technology since the release of Mortal Kombat X, and just last week they offered up an extensive video covering how to safely combo into Kano’s Cutthroat power-up. It makes sense then that we’d see the same sort of video for Jason’s Unstoppable variant.

For our first set of general combos, VesperArcade takes control of each of Jason’s variants to offer up plenty of devastating and stylish options.

In the next video, Hurtbox TV gives Jason’s combos the same sort of attention that they’ve given many of the other characters in the cast so far. This nearly five minute reel of combo mayhem covers each of the new fighter’s variants and offers options for a variety of openers and amounts of meter expenditure.

This second video from Hurtbox TV focuses solely on ways to combo into Jason’s X-Ray and maximize combo damage. While some of these do press into the 60% range, one has to wonder if it’s worth using this much meter to tack on so little additional damage. Under normal circumstances (where the combo isn’t going to kill), it almost certainly isn’t, due to how important meter is for wakeup attacks and combo breakers.

It’s still cool to have these in your back pocket for wowing some friends, though.

And it just wouldn’t be a new character without a potential bug. Arturo and REO discovered this hitbox oddity yesterday, seemingly allowing Sub-Zero to make Jason whiff with a forward dash. This obviously needs more testing, but it’s still an interesting day one discovery.

Have you found something brutal in Mortal Kombat X that you can’t wait to share? Drop us a line and let us know; your video could be featured in our next roundup!
