Remix Your Heart With These First Mai Natsume Clips from BlazBlue: Central Fiction

While the Western fans of BlazBlue: Central Fiction have to wait until November 1st to play the second DLC character, Mai Natsume, the brave spear-wielder is already available on PlayStation Network in Asia. The first impressions of her seem to be very positive, as these clips below show off some powerful combos and tech.

Here’s a quick round-up to get acquainted with what Mai can do:

Machabo tweeted a series of damaging Mai combos from a fatal counter. He’s saying the character is good.

A more damaging combo that requires Overdrive and 100 Heat.

Mai’s backflip is not supposed to be invincible from frame one, but it could possibly be from frame two.

An example of a corner combo, which allows Mai to do safejump pressure.

A mid-screen combo from an overhead that gets to 4000 damage with a Distortion Drive.

This short combo video by Sugi showcases a lot of practical confirms, including examples from throws and air attacks.

For more information on the new character, keep tabs on this Mai Natsume Google Doc from the community. There’s also a BlazBlue Character Discord list which includes Mai.

How to Avoid Getting Burst-Baited in Guilty Gear Xrd -REVELATOR-

Bursting can create on of the most hype moments in Guilty Gear Xrd -REVELATOR- and related games with similar mechanics. While this mechanic has everyone’s back, it also involves a metagame of burst-baiting and punishing that turns the match into a mindgame.

The latest episode of the Guilty Gear Crash Course is an in-depth coverage of how Bursts work. Novril begins by explaining how the gauge itself works. It’s important to remember that it retains over rounds, so using it at low health while the opponent is winning can turn out in wasting it. The episode ends with some very helpful tips on how to decrease the chances of the opponent reading a Burst and punishing it.

In -REVELATOR-, it’s also possible to do a Burst-enhanced Overdrive and to drain the opponent’s Burst gauge with a charged Blitz Attack.

Learn About Amane’s New Midscreen Pressure in BlazBlue: Central Fiction

Amane Nishiki is a fairly niche character in the BlazBlue series. His first appearance in BlazBlue: Chronophantasma wasn’t the most spectacular despite his affinity for drama and the stage. While he used to be a relatively low-tier character, the drill and chip-damage specialist received a more well-rounded toolset in Central Fiction.

Eshi, also known as “One Punch Amane,” compiled a useful overview where he explains some of Amane’s options for midscreen okizeme, or wake-up pressure. Since Amane is a stronger character now, the guide is also helpful for those who don’t plan on using this character, as the knowledge of his options could serve well in tournament play. Eshi lists a few ways to get around Amane’s attacks and keep in mind that many characters could have escape tools specific to them.

To study Amane in action, Eshi also recorded a long set with commentary that explains his gameplay flow and strategy:

Follow the Gaze of a Pro Guilty Gear Xrd -REVELATOR- Player, Thanks to Eye Tracking Technology

With so much information on the screen while playing a fighting game, it’s sometimes hard to judge where our eyes should focus. In Guilty Gear Xrd -REVELATOR-, a fast-paced game, there’s not only the opponent’s position and incoming mix-up to worry about, but also the Life, Burst, and Tension gauges, in addition to character-specific resources.

COG|Kid Viper has acquired an eye-tracking device to complement his streaming. While he has it on, the viewers can see where he exactly he looks while playing. Most of the time, he keeps himself focused on the opponent, tracking their movement very quickly.

Check out the sets below against various players on netplay to gain a little player insight thanks to this technology.

The Best of Guilty Gear Xrd -REVELATOR- Photos from Digital Figure Mode

The recent 1.03 patch introduced a new mode to Guilty Gear Xrd -REVELATOR-. Digital Figure Mode allows players to get started on a collection which includes characters and backgrounds. They can arrange them in scenes, pose in different ways, and share on social media.

Arc System Works hosted a contest for Tweeting pictures with the hashtag #GGXrd_Photo. While the contest ended on October 10th, we took the time to look through and curate some of the best — or more interesting — entries.

Here they are:

Sin has enough food to share, but his face when someone wants a little meat is priceless.

Where did Chipp learn the Sand Clone Jutsu?!

It looks like Leo picked up new powers as well.

Didn’t type Faust as a rock fan before, but it makes sense, actually.

They say that if Potemkin anti-airs correctly 13 times in a round, an angel will appear.

Who rode it better?

Perhaps a reference to the Midnight Carnival?

One of these days, Beak Driver will go too far… but Raven is just fine with that.

Would Sin choose Elphelt over Ramlethal?

Who knew Guilty Gear could be so romantic?

Wow, Ky. We know Dizzy wasn’t part of the original Xrd -SIGN- cast, but you lost Hope a little too soon.

Fighting at the brink of dawn, or a reference to Gold characters from the past versions?

This caption sums it all up.

Which one was your favorite? Did you take any GGXrd Photos? Share with us in the comments.

Both Handheld and Stationary: The Nintendo Switch is Finally Revealed

This morning, Nintendo revealed their upcoming console at last (codenamed “NX” up to this point). The company released a three-minute clip that shows the Nintendo Switch in action.

The trailer shows a few Nintendo Wii U games, like Splatoon and Mario Kart 8, with an obvious esports angle, so there’s good potential for a Super Smash Bros. for the Wii U port. [Rumors are already circulating about the possibility of that Smash 4 port, or a port of/sequel to Pokkén Tournament, but there is no confirmation of any of those at this point. – Editor]

Among the console’s partners figure companies like Atlus, Arc System Works, Bandai Namco, Capcom, Sega, and many more.

The Nintendo Switch launches March 2017.
