New PlayStation 4 Chaos Code Videos Showcase Game Mechanics, Characters, and More,

Has Chaos Code, a PlayStation 3 anime fighter, been under your radar so far? As the game lacked Network Mode in its first console iteration, it hasn’t developed as much of a scene as its fellow air-dashers. Following up on the news of a PlayStation 4 remaster of Chaos Code, developer FK Digital released a few new videos that are great starting points for newcomers.

If you’ve never played Chaos Code before, the following video (originally created by lolokoa) provides a detailed breakdown of the mechanics.

Curious about what modes will be included? The trailer below showcases them, and the game will include Network Mode.

In addition, there’s a trailer showcasing Hikaru Otagi:

Among four new characters (two of which are alternate versions of Cait & Sith) included in Chaos Code: New Sign of Catastrophe, “boss” versions of every character in the cast will be selectable:

The English website for Chaos Code: New Sign of Catastrophe is coming soon. It releases in Asia next month.

A Photoshopped Baiken Image Trolls the Guilty Gear Community

As the Guilty Gear community was hyping up for the Toushinsai tournament, an unexpected image had the players bristling with anticipation.

The images feature Baiken, a samurai who appears in the Guilty Gear series and returns in Xrd -REVELATOR-‘s story mode. With the Toushinsai tournament in progress and the iconic Tatami screenshot circulating online, it seemed like her announcement was imminent. Or was it?

While the community at large started pouring out either love or hate for the thought of a guard-cancel character with YRCs and Tatami mat spam, Twitter user KantaKun owned up to the prank:

KantaKun’s admittedly impressive Photoshop skills have been used in fake character reveals before, he told SRK, when he spoofed screens for Karin in Street Fighter IV and Vergil in the original Marvel vs. Capcom 3.

“I did it because I love the character, really, and I’ve been expecting her return to Xrd,” he explained. “Also, this isn’t the first time I’ve done something like this, so I knew I could get the community to react.”

Following that tweet, he also wrote:

Either way, this elaborate prank is a good lesson to sometimes wait for official confirmation. Meanwhile, some of us have to wait for Baiken an undefined amount of time *shakes fist*.

Jubei Sound Files Datamined in BlazBlue: Central Fiction

The most sought-after cat-sensei, Jubei, may be making his way onto the playable cast of BlazBlue: Central Fiction soon. By digging around in the game’s files, users found announcer data saying the character’s name:

There are also sound clips of each of the system voices calling Jubei out in different ways, like Kokonoe calling Jubei “old man” when he is selected.

Keep in mind however, that this doesn’t confirm the character just yet, and it’s not possible to predict when Arc System Works will add him — if they add him at all. For instance, BlazBlue: Chronophantasma contained voice clips and character retorts for Hibiki Kohaku, but the developer didn’t add him until Central Fiction.

We’ll keep our ears out sharp for an official Jubei trailer should Arc System Works ever let the cat out of the bag.

Unlock the Power of BlazBlue: Central Fiction’s Susanoo with These First Clips

Slightly ahead of its Japanese console release, a screenshot leaked BlazBlue: Central Fiction’s secret character, Susano’o. Unlocked by finishing the game’s story mode, Susano’o is an imposing figure and is the ultimate form of Terumi. Other than his own theme, there is a Hakumen vs. Susanoo track, “God of War,” and a color that resembles Hakumen. Currently, he’s not usable in Network Mode.

The eight seals at the bottom are unlocked by Susano’o’s drive. An arrow indicates the currently selected one, switching over when Susano’o lands blows. Each one corresponds to one of his special moves (among them one that’s pretty correspondent to Sol Badguy’s Grand Viper). Some of them can be “leveled up” two more times.

Clips began showing up on Twitter and YouTube with combos and tech:

MarlinPie Talks about CEOtaku 2016, Guilty Gear, and Going to Toushinsai

Feature Image: PG|MarlinPie on the right

Editor’s note: The views expressed in this article are solely those of the writer, and do not reflect Shoryuken.com as a whole.

Anime fighting games were in harmony this past weekend as Alex Jebailey’s CEOtaku event provided two days of competition and lots of “dakimakura” merchandise (body pillows). As for 2016 CEOtaku results, Guilty Gear Xrd -REVELATOR-, amidst 517 total entrants, saw 238 fighters competing for the title. It definitely proved to be one of the hypest brackets, seeing less common characters like Shine’s Potemkin and Doren2k “DaGawd’s” Jam Kuradoberi make top 8. Ultimately, it was Japan’s Kedako, with May, who emerged victorious in both Xrd -REVELATOR- as well as XX Accent Core +R.

After the tournament, I caught up with Panda Gaming’s MarlinPie, who placed second in the tournament with his Zato-1. We talk about his performance, as well as his general thoughts on Guilty Gear and his upcoming trip to Japan to the Toushinsai event, October 16-17th.

Q: So you placed second in the CEOtaku tournament, what are your thoughts on your matches and the top 8?

Kyohei “MarlinPie” Lehr: I’m actually a little sad, because I know there were some things I thought of doing and not doing before the match. I couldn’t help myself to do the things I didn’t want to do, and not do the things I wanted to do. It was like a mental… I don’t know. It was hard to break out of a habit. For example, I guess May, even from far-range distance, I shouldn’t be whiffing any buttons in the air, because one small hit will confirm into a knockdown with a hefty 100-200 [damage] combo. I’m actually kinda sad at myself.

Q: You’re using Johnny sometimes as an alternative to your main, did you think about using him at all?

MarlinPie: I actually did think about him after I lost two matches straight in Grand Finals. Regardless of how the match was going to go, if I lost with Johnny, and he was the last character I used, I wouldn’t have been able to sleep well. Losing to an opponent, thinking I should have stuck to my main, is something I didn’t want to do.

Q: What were your afterthoughts on your Evo 2016 performance, being the only American player who qualified for top 8?

MarlinPie: I’m kind of sad that not many American players made it. I thought some would make it to top 32, but it was pretty much one Korean guy [TopGaren], and one American, myself, the rest were Japanese. That was surprising. I had a motivation to play at the top, at the highest of my level. That was not a confidence booster, but support, in a way. I didn’t want to let the country down, kind of thing. I did get top 8, but didn’t win a match in top 8 [laughs].

Q: There was a big patch post-Evo, but you’re sticking to your character. What are your thoughts on game balance?

MarlinPie: The balance patch made sense to me. It didn’t do anything drastic, because it’s not a new game, just a patch. The way they nerfed the characters that were ovepowered and buffed the characters that were weak, made sense. They were simple property changes, they didn’t take away anything, didn’t add anything, so the characters can be a little more fair. There are obvious stronger characters in the game still, but this was a good thing they did. Plus, they didn’t touch Zato-1, so that was more of a motivation for me to play him, as all the top-tier characters got nerfed. I don’t have to suffer as much, so it was good for me.

Q: Metagame-wise, have you seen shifts in that as well?

MarlinPie: The two biggest changes in the meta are Sin and Johnny. I don’t have to think about really being on point punishing Beak Driver, since it’s insanely bad on whiff now. I used to sit there and wait for my opportunity to poke out on whiff, but now I can neutral jump instead of sitting there, and if I see it whiff, I can air dash in. If I did that pre-patch, I would get 6P’d for free. That’s one gameplan change. And Johnny—you just don’t die from getting hit. That’s it. You used to actually die getting hit once in the game. That was extremely unfair. It’s like a simple change, but it really makes sense.

Q: Looking ahead to Toushinsai coming up, you’re one of two American players who qualified. What are your thoughts, how are you preparing? You’ll be back with all these Japanese players.

MarlinPie: I’m actually kind of happy that Chaz [Mynus] is going with me. BjornSonofBear forfeited his spot to Mynus. Mynus and I have been playing together for longer than a decade, so I’m glad he’s going to be with me in Japan. It will be more enjoyable.

How I’m preparing for Toushinsai is kind of weird. I’m actually not playing, myself, but I’m watching every possible Guilty Gear match on YouTube. Seriously, if I see any GG content that resembles the players in Toushinsai, I’m there. I’m watching, I’m mentally training, I do some training mode if I see something iffy or have some idea—this guy is doing this, maybe I can counter it with this, kind of thing. Otherwise, I just watch.

Q: Any final thoughts?

MarlinPie: Damn it, May… I actually oversaw May. I kind of underestimated May, I guess. The characters I was focusing on were Johnny, Sin, Zato-1 mirror match, Jack-O, and strangely, Potemkin. I wasn’t even thinking about May, but [Kedako] just comes to the tournament and wrecks me. That kind of thing.

Screenshot Leaks Susano’o, a Secret BlazBlue: Central Fiction Character

Earlier today, a mysterious screenshot of BlazBlue: Central Fiction surfaced on Twitter:

ct7ti2juaaa1tgv

The image, which reportedly comes from a console version that broke street date, reveals Susano’o, a yet unrevealed BlazBlue character. It’s known that Terumi and Hakumen wear a Susano’o unit armor, so fans speculate that it’s a fusion of those characters. Susano’o has seven mysterious seals above the Heat bar.

The All-Aksys Twitter account confirmed the existence of the character though there are no more details:

Toshimichi Mori also talked about whether he wants to release BlazBlue: Central Fiction Extend.

We’ll find out more about Susano’o soon, as the console release in Japan is October 6th, November 1st in America, and November 4th in Europe.

There Won’t Be a BlazBlue: Central Fiction Extend, Mori Says

In the latest Weekly Famitsu, Toshimichi Mori answered some questions regarding BlazBlue: Central Fiction. While many fans predict the seemingly inevitable Extend “expansion” to the game, Mori said there’s nothing like that planned.

As the story mode teeters around 30 hours of content, Mori explains that Central Fiction has enough content to last a long time. At some point, he would like to do a balance adjustment to the game, and potentially add new characters should there be demand for them (*cough*, Jubei). What’s confirmed is that the producer’s next venture is not fighting-game-related, and will be something in a different field. Mori said that fans will “understand” the stance on a BlazBlue sequel if they play through the story.

Curiously, Mori also said that if he were to make another fighting game, he would like it to “upset the balance of what we know about fighting games.”

BlazBlue: Central Fiction is launching on October 6th in Japan for the PlayStation 3 and 4, November 1st in North America, and November 4th in Europe.

These team exhibitions work as great warmups for the main tournaments on Saturday and Sunday, as the stakes have been raised by additional pot bonuses for games like Guilty Gear Xrd -REVELATOR-. FGC Member, Rotendo, Seeks Community Aid Post Family Tragedy

Rodolfo “Rotendo” Camarenamora, a longtime FGC and SRK community member from Texas, has been touched by a tragic event in the past few days. His wife and high school sweetheart, Stacy, passed away due to complications with diabetes and other illnesses. Now a father of three children, Rotendo turned to GoFundMe and the fighting game community for help.

The GoFundMe page seeks to cover funeral costs and some of the medical bills incurred over the past few years, which put a financial strain on the family. Rotendo faces those costs as well as the difficulties of raising three children on his own.

[Stacy] loved our children more than herself and always put their needs before her own. Stacy passed peacefully in her sleep on Sept 22, 2016. She had a big heart and is loved by many and all those she touched.

Sharing the page and his story, as well as any donations, would be hugely appreciated by his family.

Big thanks to Dios <-X-> from our SRK Forums for posting about Rotendo’s story and spreading the word.
