Wave of Darkness: A Hardcore ARPG for Fans of the Genre

Small independent studios, Aurofinity and Dreamtrix, are about midway through a very modest KickStarter campaign for their hardcore action RPG Wave of Darkness. These are the same studios responsible for Legends of Dawn, the first in a planned trilogy of games. Wave of Darkness is, at the moment, a PC-only title and features and open, explorable world, spell generator, crafting, mini-games, and the promise of modding tools to be released at a later date.

Grim Dawn: PAX East Preview – Staying True to Classic ARPGs

PAX East Preview - Staying True to Classic ARPGs

We just got back from PAX East, and one of the games I took a good look at at was a slick ARPG called Grim Dawn. Currently in production by Crave Entertainment, Grim Dawn is very reminescent of old-school Diablo and Diablo two, with a dark color palette, and some very neat ideas. Now, I must confess to having a soft spot for ARPGs, and any game in the same vein as the venerated Diablo I and II is going to strike very near my heart.

In the psycho-paced game of Overwatch, Zarya will quickly become a fan favorite despite her low speed.

Gigantic: PAX East Preview – Poised to Make a Big Splash

PAX East Preview - Poised to Make a Big Splash

Recently, at PAX East, I had an opportunity to play Gigantic, Motiga’s upcoming entry into the "Action-MOBA" genre. Let’s start by getting a few things straight, when I say an action-MOBA, I do not mean a LOL or DOTA clone. This is the new breed of MOBA, more in the style of Smite, which means immersive third-person action, where every attack is a skill-shot.

5 Ways VR Headsets Could Improve MMOs

It seems like a new VR headset is announced every few months now. First there was the Oculus Rift, pioneering a newly discovered market segment. Now we have Sony’s Project Morpheus, Steam and HTC’s Vive, the Samsung Gear, and a whole host of other companies clamoring to get in on the topic while it’s still hot. Since they’re not widely owned yet and are still very much in developmental stages, it’s tough to tell exactly how it will play out, but it’s an exciting time for sure.
