It’s Max Brass’ time to shine in ARMS’ first DLC trailer

Announced during E3, Nintendo have released an official trailer for ARMS’ first DLC character, Max Brass. Showing off his stage and his unique ARMS, the video shows the current world champion in action as he takes on all comers. His main gimmick is his ‘Bulk Up’ technique, which allows him to armor through lightweight ARMS, similar to Master Mummy. He also takes both of Spring Man’s techniques, meaning he can swat away punches by dashing at the right moment and get permanently charged ARMS once his health drops below 20%.

As for his unique ARMS, they all revolve around fire and explosions. One of them looks like a grenade, with its charged version exploding on contact with an enemy. His version of the Toaster ARM burns with a purple fire, while his version of the Hammer ARM lets off an explosion whenever it slams into the ground. Look out for this metallic muscle man online when he joins the ARMS roster at the end of this month.

Bass and DevilMayCare break down the TJ Combo vs. Jago match-up for Killer Instinct

Acting as a natural extension of his Rough Sets series, UA’s Bass has just released a special video breakdown for Killer Instinct which shows off the TJ Combo vs. Jago. Rather than simply commentating over footage after the fact, Bass and fellow UA compatriot/top TJ player DevilMayCare try to analyze their actions mid-match.

This way, you get match-up knowledge from both sides and get an active view of how each player is trying to beat the other. Hopefully, Bass will continue this series with other notable character specialists, to help people overcome difficult match-ups. With many KI players having a roster of about two to three characters they play at tournament level, mastering match-ups is crucial to doing well in competitive Killer Instinct.

Turn on the jets with this Captain Falcon combo guide from MySmashCorner

The character used by For Glory players everywhere, Captain Falcon is known for his blinding speed, flashy playstyle, and ability to wipe out stocks in a blink of an eye — as long as you don’t kill yourself. To help struggling Falcon players better optimize their character, MySmashCorner has dedicated his latest combo and neutral guide to the spandex-wearing racing driver.

MySmashCorner has also interviewed YP|Fatality to get his thoughts on Captain Falcon. Along with discussing the character’s strengths and weaknesses, the world’s best Falcon outlines some good stages to counter-pick to, as well as his best and worst matchups. While Captain Falcon has a decent matchup spread, Fatality recommends that you either main the character, or don’t play him at all. It’s solo or bust.

ARIKA is exhibiting their playable fighting game project at Evolution 2017

Great news if you are attending Evo this year, as ARIKA will actually be doing a location test for the “mystery fighting game” they teased back on April Fools’ Day. It will be free to play on Friday and Saturday at ARIKA’s booth, with the team asking for player feedback following their time with the game.

By the sounds of it, it will be the same build used at the April Fools’ playtest, with Street Fighter EX characters Garuda, Kairi, and Hokuto playable. You may have to queue for quite a while as there is only one station, so make a beeline for it once your pool has finished!

Hopefully, the feedback received from Evo will help push ARIKA to fully develop what looks to be a mix of Fighting Layer and Street Fighter EX4. My prayers for Skullomania may finally be coming true.

There is still time to register for Evo 2017! Registration closes at 11:59 PM PDT tonight.

Rise Nation adds Bryant “Smug” Huggins to their FGC roster

Joining the likes of MenaRD and Marn, Rise Nation have signed Bryant “Smug” Huggins ahead of this year’s Evo. The mayor of Duff City has hit his stride during Street Fighter V Season 2, finding his main in the original Street Fighter boxer Balrog. With top eight placings at CEO 2017, Combo Breaker, KiT and Winter Brawl XI, along with victories at Texas Showdown and Fighters’ Underground, you need to watch out for this man’s Turn Around Punch.

Smug was also one of the invitees to ELEAGUE’s Street Fighter Invitational, with his Balrog earning him ninth place overall. Rise Nation have certainly picked a winner with Smug, with his mix of skill and personality making him a definite fan favorite within the Street Fighter community. Expect this man to be putting new citizens on the Duff City bus at Evo.

Red Bull eSports follow his breakout year in their new Snake Eyez documentary: MIND GAMES

With Zangief gaining a new lease on life in Season 2 of Street Fighter V, Red Bull’s own Snake Eyez has been back on form with the Russian bear-wrestler. Following a recent win at CEO 2017, along with top placings at Combo Breaker, Texas Showdown and DreamHack Austin, America’s greatest grappler is slowly working his way back to the top of the Street Fighter mountain.

To commemorate his return, Red Bull Esports are producing a new documentary which follows Snake Eyez’s 2017 Capcom Pro Tour journey. Starting at Final Round 20, this film will show how Snake Eyez deals with the pressure of tournaments, fighting tough opponents, and how he keeps on the path to improvement. If Snake Eyez does well at Evo, expect his success to become a key component of this documentary!

Panda Global have begun releasing version 3 of their global Smash 4 player rankings

Collating together results from several tournaments around the world, Panda Global and their stats team have begun to release the third PGR for Super Smash Bros. for Wii U. This ranking covers tournaments between January 7th and June 18th, with CEO 2017 being the last tournament that counted towards this list.

Tournaments were rated via the PG Tournament Tier System, and player rankings were determined by looking at their placings at various events, combined with their respective wins and losses. For a complete breakdown of the methodology for the PGR v3, check out the FAQ over on its official website.

So far, only ranks 41-50 have been declared, with the PG Stats team planning to release ranks 40-31 on June 29th, ranks 30-21 on July 3rd, ranks 20-11 on July 5th, and then the top 10 on July 7th. This means we should have an up-to-date ranking ahead of Evo 2017.

Spread your wings with this Eagle tech roundup for Killer Instinct

Now that Eagle has joined the Killer Instinct roster, the lab monsters have come out in full force to push this archer to his limit. From safe counter breakers, to knockdown setups and general information about his various projectiles, these videos should prepare you for the hunt.

First off we have top ARIA and third place at Evo 2016 SeaDragon, with some hard knockdown setups and a free counter breaker trap for Eagle. Just from these initial concepts, Eagle is going to be a setplay machine once people figure out the best ways to pressure with his projectiles and bird companion.

Xcel|Amenty has been experimenting with setups off of Eagle’s throw, as well as how to pressure with the bird’s Screech assist.

Noted KI technician FREEDOM’S LABORATORY has been hard at work, figuring out corner combos, resets and Screech setups with the archer.

Ovis has compiled some helpful images which help players visualize all of the ranges for Eagle’s overhead arrow shot.

Brawhalla’s $10,000 Summer Championship runs from July 29th-30th

Ahead of its massive World Championship this November, Brawlhalla developer Blue Mammoth Games are hosting a Summer Championship to give players a chance at earning a cut of 1300 circuit points and $10,000. The Championship will be divided between North America and Europe, with both regions having 1v1 and 2v2 events.

July 29th will be dedicated to singles, with the doubles tournaments happening the day after. All of the finals will be streamed via Brawlhalla’s Twitch channel, with Mammoth developers David “Foda” Kisich and Eric “TWK” Devlin providing commentary. The schedule for both days is as follows:

  • 12:00 PMEDT – Start time (Europe)
  • 2:00 PM EDT – Finals (Europe)
  • 3:00 PM EDT – Start time (North America)
  • 5:00 PM EDT – Finals (North America)

Duct Tape Productions will explore the past and future of Project M in Rewrite, coming in 2018

While it may have vanished from major Twitch streams, Project M is very much alive and kicking. With an active Championship Circuit and players continuing to push the game to its limit, this storied fan mod of Brawl shows no signs of fading into obscurity.

Hoping to follow in the footsteps of other landmark documentaries about the Smash community, Duct Tape Productions is planning to explore “the sordid history” of Project M in Rewrite, a film coming in 2018. From its humble beginnings to its rise in popularity, subsequent fall from grace, and now its rebirth, this documentary hopes to literally rewrite the Project M history book and tell the truth from the players and people who were there.

If Duct Tape Productions are able to meet some specific stretch goals on their GoFundMe, they plan to release some smaller films about Supernova — the tournament that sparked Project M’s renaissance — and the Wolf player Switch who is widely considered the Mango of Project M. There is also the possibility of a special Rewrite build of PM, complete with custom music and artwork.
