Blink and you’ll miss The Flash’s Injustice 2 intro trailer

As a Flash main in the original Injustice, this is the trailer I have been waiting for. Showing off the scarlet speedster in action, this introductory trailer for The Flash reveals some of the new tricks he has picked up in between games. Still retaining moves like his Lightning Kick, Running Man Stance and Time Loop trait, The Flash finally has a projectile and some added anti-air options to deal with foes both near and far.

Barry Allen has even gained a dive kick for Injustice 2, with him spiraling head first towards a foe and potentially leading into a juggle when in Time Loop. Taking a tip from Kitana, The Flash has an anti-air similar to the Edenian princess, making opponents float in the air when meter-burned. He can also spin on the spot to create a tornado which can intercept jumping foes, along with an energy projectile to contest enemy zoners.

His new super is truly the star of the show, with The Flash running back in time to slam opponents into some archaeological and paleontological surprises. He then brings opponents back to the present, where they collide headfirst into an alternate timeline version of themselves–starting another beatdown in a separate universe. That’s just the right kind of overkill.

Unlock Shin Hisako’s potential with these Killer Instinct combo guides

Having been out for a couple of weeks now, Killer Instinct players have really started to get to grips with Shin Hisako. With plenty of setplay potential with her Spirit Orb, the ability to set up long juggle combos and some tricky setups using her Devour Instinct, Shin Hisako does have the tools to be quite the threat in Killer Instinct. Having worked tirelessly in the lab, TDB|Ki4Life, ScolioReset and Freedom’s Laboratory have compiled some videos which should help players in their training with Shin Hisako.

First off, ScolioReset runs through how the huge blockstun inflicted by Shin Hisako’s Spirit Orb can make certain moves like Spirit Slice and Air On Ryo Zan safe.

Freedom’s Laboratory shows how Shin Hisako can use the Spirit Orb to extend juggles. With certain setups, she can even cast another Orb mid combo.

Ki4Life iterates on Freedom’s juggles, showing even more advanced juggles with Shin Hisako.

Finally, Ki4Life puts it all together with this mix of both impractical and practical Shin Hisako combos. These sequences use everything: Instinct cancels, Spirit Orb extensions as well as Heavy Spirit Slice dashes.

Optimize Juri’s combos on crouching opponents, using these fireball extensions from JusticeSoulTuna

Dedicating another tech video to the taekwondo temptress Juri Han, JusticeSoulTuna has put together a collection of combo extensions that utilize her standard fireball combo. By using her stMP to stMK linker added in Season 2, Juri can extend combos on crouching opponents, thanks to their larger hitbox and the spacing provided by her new combo link.

These combo extensions also apply on counter-hit, meaning Juri can potentially land 350+ damage combos on crouching opponents. JusticeSoulTuna even shows off a V-Trigger activation combo that pushes just over 400 damage. With this knowledge and the examples provided, Juri has plenty of potential to deal big damage on crouching opponents.

Make the most out of Samus’ down air in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U with this combo guide from Dendri

With there being a notable sea change in Samus’ position on the tier list over the past few months, more players are starting to unlock the true potential hidden within her Power Suit. Specifically looking at the follow ups which result from her down air, Dendri has produced a video which goes over many of the combos the bounty hunter can perform off of a clean hit.

With plenty of auto cancel frames, good range and a powerful spike at the end of her Beam Cannon, Samus can rack up decent damage at almost any percent with her down air. Many of these combos can be negate if the opponent techs on the ground, but it is helpful to know the potential follow ups if you land this move in neutral. Samus can potentially get a kill from as low as 40% if she lands a down air on stage with a fully charged Charge Shot, so it’s worth at least giving these combos a look.

Smash.gg announces major changes to its bracket generation system

Important news for anyone who organizes tournaments through smash.gg, as the tournament organizing service has announced major changes to its bracket generating system. These changes are all to help TOs run a better event and for players to avoid rematches during their time in the bracket, which is often a major complaint when people attend large events.

Seeding a tournament is one of the hardest jobs for a tournament organizer, as you have to take into account not only relative skill levels and player wins, but also regional information so two players from the same area don’t instantly square off at a big event. Smash.gg uses a snaking pool system, where the top 32 seeds are placed in a snaking pattern in order to evenly distribute players of varying skill. This works for balancing pools, but can cause problems when moving between tournament phases. The new smash.gg system keeps the order of seeding correct between phases, making sure that no potential erroneous match ups appear in later brackets.

Smash.gg has also implemented a new algorithm which splits players in a bracket into clusters, then swaps them around in order to avoid repeated match ups between phases. To cut a long story short, this algorithm should vastly decreases the chances of double jeopardy as brackets progress. It doesn’t completely strip out the problem as that is nigh on impossible, but it reduces the chances of it happening. For the layman, what you need to know is that this new system should keep seeding intact between phases and reduce the chances of you playing someone you may have lost to in Winners’. If you want to read the full technical breakdown, make sure to read the smash.gg Medium article for all the nitty gritty details.

Misfits branches out into traditional fighting games with the signing of Armando “Angelic” Mejia

The esports organization Misfits have clearly made a bargain with Dormammu, by signing one of the titanic forces of Marvel as their first traditional fighting game player. Host of Arizona’s Undefeated tournament series, one of the key figures of the newly formed Curleh Circuit, and third place finisher at both Evo 2013 and 2016 for Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3, Misfits have added Armando “Angelic” Mejia to their ranks.

Alongside his prestigious history as a Marvel competitor, Angelic is also bringing his years of TO experience to Misfits, which should help the organization grow its presence within the greater FGC. With Misfits also having Larry Lurr under its banner–who is a director of the much heralded 2GGC Series for Super Smash Bros. for Wii U–the team is looking to become a player and organizational powerhouse in the future.

“I am extremely excited to partner up not only as a player but as a TO. I truly believe that Misfits will do extremely well in the FGC and I’m excited to be a part of the team,” said Angelic, in a statement provided to ESPN Esports. He will be sporting his brand new Misfits jersey at West Coast Warzone this weekend.

Captain Cold kicks some ice in his own Injustice 2 intro trailer

First shown off in the “It’s Good to Be Bad” trailer last week, NetherRealm Studios have shown off some extended footage of the chilling commando Captain Cold in his own introductory trailer. Heavily inspired by a certain ice ninja, Captain Cold controls the mid range with his freeze ray, locking opponents in place so he can set up cool mixups.

Similar to Sub Zero’s Ice Clone, Captain Cold can set up an ice wall, which can absorb limited projectiles and be kicked at the opponent if meter burned. This moving ice wall gives Captain Cold time to summon a block of ice from the sky, forcing his foe to block correctly to avoid a hit. He can also create an ice puddle like the frosty leader of the Lin Kuei, causing enemies to slip up and allowing Captain Cold to close the gap.

He can also summon a slowing bubble, which slows anything that enters its freezing grasp. It looks like Captain Cold is a capable counter-zoner, with his ice wall and slow fields stopping the hail of projectiles which may be coming from characters like Green Arrow or Doctor Fate. He also seems to have taken some pointers from Street Fighter V’s Kolin, as one of his aerial specials has him summoning an ice platform to extend his jump range, similar to Gill’s attendant.
