Recently, Albion Online announced that they’d be dropping the F2P (free to play) payment model in favor of the buy to play (B2P) model used by games like Elder Scrolls Online and Black Desert Online. We sat down with Game Director Robin Henkys to discuss this change, and more about the ongoing plans for launch and beyond.

The latest Albion Online update has been launched. Called Brutus, the patch brings a number of quality of life improvements into the game including an optimized UI, guild management tools and more. Also included in Brutus is PvE content that is focused mainly on the undead.

The Albion Online team has released the cover art for the forthcoming tie-in novel that is set for release in February. Called “Landfall: The Tales of Albion”, the novel is written by Peter Newman and novelizes the first steps that new players will take in the game as well as reveals information on factions, settings, infamous players and guilds already in game and much more.

Albion Online will be updated later in January with the second major patch, this one called “Brutus”. Quality of life additions will be forthcoming, among them the ‘repair all’ option. In addition, the first iteration of the UI overhaul will be released as well as an “undead theme” found in a pair of new dungeons.

The Albion Online team is starting a new series spotlighting the various builds that players may wish to explore in the game. In this week’s installment, the “iron-clad tank” is profiled with a look at gear, bonuses, weapon choices and more.

In a new post on the Albion Online site, developers discuss one of the game forum’s hottest topics, “Hardcore vs Casual”.

In a new post on the Albion Online forums, the team has written about the road to release. Of particular note is the announcement that AO will not be free to play on release as developing the game for F2P would increase significantly. In addition, closed beta testing will extend through August 1, 2016.

Albion Online is many things, but it certainly isn’t shy about its huge grind. In fact, where most games try to hide their grind behind neatly dissected levels and gradual spoon feedings of content, Albion displays it proudly on its Destiny Board–a map that helps you chart your progress through the game. “Look at me,” it says. “Look at how many countless hours you will need to spend to ever wield the best items in the game.”

Albion Online players are definitely in the holiday spirit with the arrival of Christmas in the game. Players can look forward to seeing Christmas decorations in town, tossing snowballs at folks, or go on a hunt for Uncle Frost. Hint: He can be found in the Keeper dungeons and rewards a hat for successfully taking him down.

The Albion Online team has a new video out today that contains an in-house interview with novelist Peter Newman. The tie-in novel is expected to be published in Q1 2016 and will feature a fictionalized look at the game universe.
