The Black Desert Online Korean version has been updated with new weather effects over the seas. Player ships can be damaged by hurricane and lightning in mechanics that are reminiscent of the desert effects in other areas of the game.

Black Desert Online has expanded again with the Valencia Part 2 update. In addition, the first class Awakening is now live for Warriors.

The Black Desert Online forum has been updated with a new post about the forthcoming release window for all class Awakenings. The first, the Warrior, will take place on August 31st, followed by the Sorceress two weeks later. The interval between will allow the development team to address any potential balance issues and to ensure that updates fire off without a hitch.

Last week I wrote about the change Pearl Abyss were making to their in-game store and the introduction of players being able to sell Pearl items on the Marketplace. The discussion on the topic, unsurprisingly, was pretty heated. Some welcomed the change, some loathed it and some insinuated that Daum outright lied to their consumers. Irrespective of the furore surrounding the controversial change, I’m keen to hear what your thoughts are now that it’s live.

After what some have felt are a series of missteps by Black Desert Online publisher Kakao Games, a segment of the player population has been initiating “chargeback” requests to credit card companies. Chargebacks effectively give the player a refund of money spent on a product, in this case, Black Desert Online.

Pearl Items are now available on the Black Desert Online Marketplace with the successful deployment of today’s update. Kakao has implemented a “five items per week” restriction per account with reset days set for Saturdays moving forward.

Kyoungin Jung has been appointed the new CEO of Pearl Abyss, developer of Black Desert Online. Prior to coming to the new position at PA, Jung worked for Kakao Games, 4:33 and Factorial Games. He replaces previous CEO Daeil Kim who resigned in May.

I’ve watched with interest the community reaction to the announcement by Daum that Pearl Shop items would soon be purchasable by players from the in-game Marketplace. Their argument in support of this change is that “regardless of the region, there will always be players who, for whatever reason, do not get to experience all the features Black Desert offers including Pearl Shop Items.

Kakao developers have posted a new thread on the Black Desert Online forum to let players know about a big change coming to the game. Value Packages, Outfits, Costumes and Pets will soon be made available through the Market Place for in-game currency. In an effort to calm potential community concerns, the team has indicated that Pearl Abyss has placed some restrictions in the system to head off those who will try to gain an advantage by using real world cash.
