If you look closely at the definition of Gambling Disorder (6C50) and Gaming Disorder (6C51) they mirror each other almost identically. Gambling Disorder or Pathological Gambling first showed up in the ICD in 2015. So what took so long for Gaming Disorder to be added to the ICD if it is at its core, it is Gambling Disorder? Do we have the rampant loot box craze to blame or was it just a matter of time before it was added?

I am the proud owner of a Nintendo Switch, and can say without hesitation that it’s terrific! That said, I’m not ready to make the claim that it’s a better overall platform than the PC for gamers. As more crowdfunded games reach launch, it’s a good time to take a look at the process of getting from funded to finished. When it surged in popularity, we didn’t know if crowdfunding was a good idea or not. Now that the process has been tested a few times, we have more information available on which to base an informed opinion.
Gunheart is a 3-player co-op game that is coming out today across several VR platforms, as well as for desktop PCs via Steam. Gunheart is developed by Drifter Entertainment, a team that sports an impressive pedigree of experience ranging from Gears of War to Doom and Quake and that experience shows. It’s a sometimes rough shooter that has potential for those looking for a small-group cooperative experience.
It is not unreasonable to say that Stephen Spielberg is unparalleled in his craft. His work stands as a monument to everything great about film, building worlds where we can find a momentary escape from the drudgery of everyday existence. It seems fitting that a man that brought strangers from other worlds to our screens, brought giants of fact and fantasy to life, and took us on fantastic voyages should realize a tale that pays homage to all of these.
This week at GDC we saw some of the technology that will be driving our virtual worlds in the future. The techniques on cutting edge graphics and high end hardware are so distinct, we’ll be stepping into the most realistic settings we have ever faced. EPIC Games and Nvidia both gave presentation that turned some heads in where gaming will be no more than a decade from now.
It seems like a long shot, since traditionally Eastern MMORPGs are played but niche here in the states. But I think there’s good reason to believe that on the heels of successful games like Black Desert Online, Ascent: Infinite Realm and Bless Online could make publishers think twice about investing in AAA MMORPGs. Of course, this is purely me spitballing on a slow news Friday, so let’s play shall we?
I am Setsuna was released roughly 18 months after the formation of Tokyo RPG Factory. The game was good but it lacked some of the things that made the Chrono Series and early Final Fantasy games excellent. Unless you are like me and have been living under a rock, you’ve probably heard that Epic Game’s released a free to play Battle Royal game using Fortnite as a base. It’s ruffled some feathers, to say the least, and leave those of us looking to dive into the genre scratching our heads on which game to start with.
