Frontier Developments has announced that Elite: Dangerous will be heading to PlayStation 4 in Q2 2017. The PS4 version will come complete with the Horizons season pass and custom PS4 features including touch navigation, extra hotkey controls, fast headlook’ and will also come with PlayStation 4 Pro support.

No one should go gently into the dark night alone as one Elite: Dangerous player found out recently. Frontier Developments has announced that its next Elite: Dangerous content expansion, The Guardians, will be launching on Tuesday, October 25th. This also brings v1.7 online for all players. The Guaradians (v2.2) will become available to all players owning the Horizons expansion or the Commander Deluxe edition and brings “ship-launched fighters, the Beluga liner, VIPs, passengers, alien archaeology, volcanism, and much more” into Elite: Dangerous.

Elite: Dangerous PC players can now check out the beta for v2.2. Players with beta access will be able to participate in fighter-ship battles, ferry others around on passenger missions in the Beluga liner, check out the new station interiors and use the improved route planner and much more.

A new feature is coming to Elite: Dangerous that allows players to take on “passenger missions”. During these special missions, players can pick up a passenger contract, load up the passengers and transport them to another starport. Considered ‘simple work’, the rewards for taking on such missions can be lucrative. There is even a special luxury liner ship, the Beluga, that can be used for this purpose.

Frontier Developments has cancelled this year’s $100k Elite: Dangerous PvP tournament due to some planned features not having yet been implemented. In lieu of the cash reward tournament, however, a non-cash alternative called The Icarus Cup will be taking place this year.

Frontier Developments has announced that the second portion of the Elite: Dangerous – Horizons expansion has been deployed. Called “The Engineers”, new content includes the Engineers faction that players will want to gain reputation with in order to unlock ship upgrades; new crafted customization modules to make weapons more powerful; the new mission board that brings personal quest lines into play.
